DESIGN PROJECTS

Ergonomic Hand Tool: Senior Design Project

Developed an ergonomic hand tool to reduce physical strain of the upper extremities experienced by lab technicians when accessing rodents, which were housed in plastic drawers. Gained experience in ergonomics research, using anthropometric data, experimental testing, and statistical analysis of test data. I also gained large experience working with focus groups of employees and obtaining user feedback on this design. (September 2015-May 2016).

Lower Body Negative Pressure Chamber Constructed a Lower Body Negative Pressure (LBNP) Chamber to safely simulate hypovolemia, or blood loss, on human subjects. This was used for the purpose of testing the client’s new novel technique of measuring blood pressure.

The team was awarded the Design Excellence Award Honorable Mention for this project (January-May 2015).

Independent Research Project Performed an independent research project while working in the lab of Dr. Kreeger. Researched the signaling between tumor-associated macrophages and ovarian cancer cells, and how the macrophages regulate the behaviors of the cancer cells. (September-December 2014)

Intubation Training Mannequin Constructed an Intubation Task Trainer Mannequin for the UW Hospital Department of Surgery. This was used to train medical students in proper intubation and direct laryngoscopy techniques (September-December 2014)

Bioreactor for Artificial Bone Samples With a team, constructed a bioreactor that simulated the human physiological

environment in order to store artificial bones samples for compression tests. Our team created the bone samples and performed compression tests. (January-May 2014)

ACCOMPLISHMENTS /CO-CURRICULARS

Global Health Field Experience- Spain Traveled to Spain and Morocco and took a course to study human trafficking through these countries. Studied how the healthcare systems can help the survivors of trafficking, as well as what changes need to be made to these systems to provide survivors with more assistance. (Summer 2015)

Design Excellence Award Honorable Mention

Design team received the Design Excellence Award Honorable Mention for the work done on the project to construct a Lower Body Negative Pressure Chamber (Spring 2015).

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Held a leadership position on the Executive Board as treasurer of SHPE for 2013-2014, and was highly involved in the engineering community in this role. Has been a member from 2013 to present.

College of Engineering Dean’s Honors List Made the College of Engineering Dean’s List by achieving a GPA of at least 3.25 in Fall 2012 and Spring 2013.

Powers-Knapp Scholar Received scholarship for high-achieving students from underrepresented groups of society.

LEED Scholar Received the Leaders in Engineering, Excellence, and Diversity Scholarship for academic achievements.
