Foz do Brasil announced

its stake in the private block of

Saneatins (Tocantins Sanitation

Company), equivalent to 76.52%

of the company’s shares. The

other 23.48% remain with the

State Government.

The start of operations marks

Foz do Brasil’s entry into Brazil’s

Northern region, helping ensure

Tocantins and five cities in Pará

full access to water supply

and sewage collection and

treatment services.

Through the contract, all of

Saneatin’s private shareholder

ownership will be transferred to

the recently-created company,

Foz Centro Norte. The new

company’s corporate ownership

structure will be equal between

Foz do Brasil and the Crosara

family, a shareholder of the

company Empresa Sul Americana

de Montagens (EMSA), which

already held stake in the block.

Foz do Brasil was responsible for

nominating the new Managing

Director, engineer Mário Amaro

da Silveira.

“This is a long term business

that brings countless benefits

for Tocantins, since Saneatins

increases its R$ 700 million

investment plan and accelerates

the universalization of water

and sewage services in the state,

in addition to allowing for the

development of new markets

in the region,” said Fernando

Santos-Reis, Entrepreneurial

Leader at Foz do Brasil.

The State Governor, José

Wilson Siqueira Campos, who

considers basic sanitation

fundamental for preventive

health, emphasizes the

importance of the public-private

partnership for the sector:

“The Odebrecht Organization

stake, through Foz do Brasil,

in Saneatins, is proof that the

company’s operating model,

which joins the public and

private sectors, is one of the

alternatives for the advancement

of sanitation in the country,” said

Campos.

According to the

State Secretary of Public

Management Planning and

Modernization, Eduardo

Siqueira Campos, Foz do

Brasil’s entry will guarantee

more investments in the

state’s municipalities. “Over a

six-year period, Saneatins will

invest over R$ 100 million per

year,” said Campos. “This will

guarantee that Tocantins will

soon become the first Brazilian

state to have 100% sanitation.”

Founded in 1989, Saneatins

operates 125 municipalities

in Tocantins and five in

Pará, serving a population

of approximately 1 million

people. The company already

offers treated water to 92%

of the homes and the sewage

collection services reach 19%

of the population.

Annibal Crosara Júnior,

Chairman of the Saneatins

Board of Directors, states that,

due to the perspectives for

expansion, the 1,186 current

employees will be maintained.

“This is one of the country’s

most dynamic sanitation

companies, due primarily to its

business model, which helps

attract partners such as Foz do

Brasil, which has a long term

vision and can accelerate the

company’s investment plan,”

said Crosara.

With its entry into Saneatins,

Foz do Brasil will be able to

benefit more than 6.3 million

people in eight states. The

company also operates in

partnership with SABESP (São

Paulo State Basic Sanitation

Company), COPASA (Minas

Gerais Sanitation Company),

EMBASA (Bahia Water and

Sewage Company) and CESAN

(Espírito Santo Sanitation

Company).

On October 5, Odebrecht Oil and Gas

“Gávea’s entry into the OOG shareholder

Gávea has made in the Odebrecht

Organization companies. In

May 2010, it acquired 14.5% of

the voting capital in Odebrecht

Realizações Imobiliárias (OR).

According to Armínio Fraga,

the new investment confirms

Odebrecht’s competency in

strategic areas. “Our vocation is to

become the minority shareholders

of companies of excellence and in

important sectors like we are doing

now at OOG,” said Fraga.

Marcelo Odebrecht, Managing

Director of Odebrecht S.A., pointed

out that, in addition to the entry of

a strategic partner, Gávea’s stake

represents a demonstration of

mutual trust between the company

and an important investor. “It is

also proof of trust in Brazil, since

business is still being conducted,”

he said. According to Marcelo

Odebrecht, the investment shows

that Brazilian companies can

Inspired by the conclusion of the

South Inter-Oceanic Highway, on

September 30, Odebrecht Peru launched

the book Perú-Brasil: Sabor a Futuro

(“Peru-Brazil: Flavor of the Future”), a

gastronomic publication by renowned

Peruvian and Brazilian chefs.

The book consists of 20 recipes from

Miguel Schiaffino – and from

eight Brazilian professionals:

Alex Atala, considered the best

in Brazil, David Edito, Helena

Rizzo, Daniel Redondo, Rodrigo

Oliveira, Felipe Riberboim,

Gabriel Broide and Thiago

Castanho.

“The exceptional professionals

that we present in the book

come from a generation that

values the cuisine of their

native land from a vanguard

perspective,” said Jorge Barata,

the Managing Director of

Odebrecht Peru. “Not only do

they feel a special affinity for the

Amazon, they are also changing

our way of understanding

cooking,” said Barata.

According to him, the book

shows that the company’s work

scope extends beyond the

engineering projects. “With the

South Inter-Oceanic project,

the publication represents the

integration between Peru and

Brazil, until then separated by an

intricate and abundant jungle,”

he explained.

Pilar Baella, Institutional

Relations and Communication

Manager, added: “This

integration will enrich the

culture of both countries with

the exchange of resources and

creation of production chains,

in which farmers, markets and

export agents will relate in

different ways,” said Baella.

“There will be social inclusion

in places where it did not exist

before,” she said.

The elaboration of the work

was coordinated by Pedro

Miguel Schiaffino, famous for

introducing native foods from

the Amazon into his recipes.

“Many of our fruits are not well

known and the Amazonian

countries have the opportunity

to show them to the world, since

we have the knowledge,” said

Schiaffino. “What is needed is to

communicate, transmit. Hence,

the importance of the book,” he

said.

Journalist and gastronomist

Raúl Vargas, who wrote the

prologue to the publication,

reinforced: “The book is a work

of art, and at the same time

innovative, since it transmits

the wonderful thing happening

between our two countries, Peru

and Brazil.”

Braskem launched its new Internet portal

at the start of October. The reformulation

of the communication channel reflects the

company’s internationalization process, aims

to strengthen Braskem’s relationship with its

different stakeholders and offers information more

practically and objectively.

The website is now available in five different

versions: Brazil, International, South America,

United States and Mexico. The division was

created so that the portal could contain specific

and detailed information for the petrochemical

operations in each region.

For the elaboration of the new portal, a

mapping was developed to discover the users’

main needs. The result was a more modern

website, with more accessible menus and specific

areas for clients, suppliers, investors, the board and

community.

One of the highlights is the Career section,

which shows the company’s main programs, the

Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology and the

professional opportunities available, and also

includes an area for individuals to register their CVs.

Odebrecht is supporting the “Journalism

of the Future” Program, an initiative of the

newspaper Correio and the Federal University

of Bahia (UFBA), designed to strengthen the

training of professionals who graduate from the

School of Communication (FACOM).

The agreement was formalized on October 10

with the signing of the contract by the President

of the Bahia Network, Antônio Carlos Júnior, and

by the Dean of UFBA, Dora Leal. “It is the first

experience with this scope in Bahia,” said Leal.

Antônio Carlos Júnior emphasized the

initiative’s importance for the training of the

professionals. “It is more than an internship

program, but rather a way of giving the

students a production environment,” said

Carlos Júnior.

According to the Director of the Editorial

Staff at Correio, Sérgio Costa, the objective is to

build a laboratory of innovation and a reference

training program for the Northeastern region

and the country. “This has only been possible

because Odebrecht, UFBA and the newspaper

Correio joined forces to invest in an innovative

initiative,” said Costa. “Education is the path

toward the sustainable development of our

state. We are happy with the fulfillment of this

dream,” he said.

For the first stage, students from the

Journalism and Cultural Production courses

were selected to experience the day-to-day of

the newspaper’s editorial staff. At the end of two

months of work, the participants will elaborate a

communication product publishing project.

The Food Acquisition Program (PAA) – a

Brazilian Federal Government action designed

to combat hunger and promote the distribution

of income and growth of family farming – has

been replicated in Bahia’s Southern Lowlands

since 2009.

The initiative arrived to the region

through a technical cooperation agreement

between the Odebrecht Foundation, Pratigi

Environmental Protection Area Inter-Municipal

Consortium (CIAPRA) and the Ministry of Social

Development and Hunger Alleviation, with the

support of the Rights and Citizenship Institute

(IDC).

A total of 317 families are assisted in four

cities. The farmers can receive up to R$ 4,500

per year by delivering the foods to the PAA. “The

growth in the family’s income and ease of selling

what was before thrown away as garbage are

the main benefits,” said Maria Celeste, Executive

Director of IDC.

PAA was mentioned in the report

Procurement for the Millennium

Development, written by the General Secretary

of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon. The

program was considered one of the best global

practices in terms of its contribution to the

Millennium Development Objectives.

On October 6, the Rota das Bandeiras

Concessionaire – the Odebrecht TransPort

company – began planting 5,479 seedlings

of native trees at the Fazenda Country Club,

located in Itatiba, in the rural region of São

Paulo.

Mayor João Fattori, students from the

Sebastião de Camargo Pires Municipal

Elementary School and Members of the

concessionaire participated in the event. “The

action helped improve the quality of life in our

city and is very welcome,” said the mayor after

planting the first seedling.

The initiative is part of the concessionaire’s

environmental compensation for the

duplication of Engenheiro Constâncio Cintra

highway (SP-360). For each tree removed, 25

new seedlings are planted. “Our concern with

the environment and with sustainability is

constant, and that is why we invite children to

the planting event, giving them direct contact

with nature,” explained José Luiz Moreira,

Director of Rota das Bandeiras.

Since the start of operations at the Dom

Pedro Corridor, which connects the cities

of Campinas to Jacareí, in April 2009, the

concessionaire has planted over 24,000 native

tree seedlings. The company estimates that by

the end of this year, it will reach the mark of

60,000 seedlings planted.
