Volunteering – one of your five ways to wellbeing! Redditch and Bromsgrove held its first Volunteering Fair on Friday 23rd October at Redditch Town Hall. Bromsgrove and Redditch Network (BARN) worked in partnership with Public Health to hold the event which showcased volunteering opportunities with Age UK, Mentorlink, Stroke Association and the Fire Service to name but a few. Staff from both Councils were encouraged to come and see how they could volunteer using their 16 free hours and the event also welcomed members of the public to find out more about how they could get involved.

Redditch Community Advice Service (CAS) The Community Advice Service was launched in September and is running as a pilot until February 2016. A community worker is on hand every Thursday evening 6-8pm and Saturday morning 10-12pm at the Reddi Centre. The community worker can chat to members of the public and provide information about any issues of concern and able to signpost or refer them to specialist organisations to receive further help. People can just drop in or make appointments by either phoning 07549 221098 or emailing [email protected].

What do you think the Health Priorities should be

for Redditch & Bromsgrove?

It is a statutory requirement for the Worcestershire Health and Well-being Board to produce a Joint Health and Well-being Strategy. The strategy sets a small number of high level priorities and outcomes which will be used as a basis to shape commissioning across the health and care system and to develop more detailed actions plans to improve Worcestershire's Health and Well-being. The current Strategy runs from 2013-16 and a new draft strategy is currently out for public consultation.

Have your say by completing the consultation on the draft strategy here.

A final draft of the Strategy will include responses to the

New Funding for Positive Activities

Cabinet at Worcestershire County Council has approved the continuation of funding to positive activities across Worcestershire. Councillors made the decision following a full review of the current existing provision which also showed the potential impact if funding was withdrawn. Funding will be awarded over the period of three years and will decrease year on year. A new commissioning process will be undertaken during November in time for provision to be put in place for April 2016. Groups/consortia wishing to put in a bid need to look at the County’s E-Tender portal pages over the next month.

Redditch Libraries - We Want To Work with You!

The role of your local libraries has changed a lot in recent years. We are often a safe haven for the vulnerable as well as being a non threatening source of information and training. We offer free access to the internet for 2hrs a day and signpost customers to services. At Redditch and Woodrow Libraries we are aiming to become a place where our community can access the help that they need … whether it be to find a job, join a mum's group or church luncheon group or indeed find help and support about physical, and mental health. We have just begun and are starting to contact our partners to ask if we can work together to serve the community. We are sorry that we have to charge for rooms/space but hope that you will agree that the charges are very reasonable in comparison to other / private providers. We do provide a great way to reach the whole community… from cradle to grave … as we have on average 1000 customers a day at Redditch Library. Do you need a room for a group or training session? Do you want a table in the library for a display where customers can drop in and ask for help? Do you think there is an opportunity for us to work on something together … to share a project? Each provide a volunteer/staff member? Are you looking for opportunities for volunteers? Please email [email protected] for more information. Room hire £6.50 to £10.00 per hour Table display £3.50 per hour Both can be booked for one off or repeat sessions. Large and small rooms available.

Relate believe good, strong relationships help people to lead healthy, happy and successful lives which contribute to the strengthening of local communities.

Friday 20th November is Carers Rights Day. Each year Carers UK holds a Carers Rights Day to bring organisations from across the UK together to help and support carers in their communities to become aware of their rights, and find out how to get the help and support that they are entitled to.

Carers UK research shows that every year, more than 2 million people take on a new caring role, and as a result many people struggle to navigate the maze of services and entitlements available, which can lead to them possibly missing out on the vital financial and practical support that they need. Also it’s not always just people who are new to caring – even those who have been caring for years sometimes are not always aware of all their entitlements with the various changes that are being made. Letting carers know where to get help and support is therefore essential and that’s where local charity Carers Careline steps in.

Carers Careline have been supporting unpaid informal carers in Redditch for the past 27 years. Caring for a loved one or friend is an all-consuming role and can present many challenges. Carers Careline are here to offer help, support and guidance through

their range of services which include a drop in service (Monday – Thursday), a telephone support service, a full programme of activities, outings, group sessions and training for carers, as well as a counselling service, and if needed bereavement support. Having the right information at the right time can make a huge difference when you are looking after someone. So please come along and see us on Friday 20th November in the Kingfisher Centre from 10am - 4pm. Alternatively, please contact us for any help or advice on 01527 66177 or visit our website carerscareline.co.uk
