1.1 Explanation of the safety symbols usedThesafetysymbolstogetherwithaccompanyingtextmustwarnofresidual dangerswhichcannotbeavoidedwhenusingthedevice. These residual dangers relate to
- persons- thedevice- otherpropertyandobjects- theenvironment.
Thepresentoperatingmanualcontainsthefollowingsafetysymbols.
Thesesymbolsindicateabovealldangertothelifeandhealthofpersons, butdangertothedevice,propertyortheenvironmentisalsopossible.

1.2 Operators duty of careSteamInjectors/MixingNozzlesweredesignedandbuiltonthebasisofariskanalysisandunderconsiderationofallrelevantharmonizedstandardsaswellasfurthernationalstandardsandtechnicalspecifications.Thedevicethusconformstothecurrentleveloftechnologyandguaranteesthehighestpossibledegree of safety.
Thislevelofsafetycanonlybeachievedinpracticeifallnecessarymeasuresareobservedindealingwiththedevice.Itisthereforepartofthedutyofcareofthedevice’soperatortoplanthesemeasuresandcheckthattheyareexecutedcorrectly.
Inparticulartheoperatormustensurethat
- thecomponentsareusedonlyasprescribed (cf.chapter„Productdescription“)
- thecomponentsarenotbeusedwithahigherpressurethanthe design pressure.Weproposetousepressurereliefvalves.
- thecomponentsarenottobeusedwithahighertemperaturethanthe design temperature.Thetemperatureshouldbecontrolledconstantlyby theoperator.Ifitispossiblethatpersonscouldbeincontactwiththe heated water or penetrating steam we propose to install safety temperaturecontrolvalves.
- thecomponentsareonlyusedwiththedefinedfluids.
- the flow directionisincompliancewiththestipulatedflowdirection whichismarkedonthehousing.
- the tightnessofthecomponentswillbecontrolledatregularintervals especiallyifverycorrosiveorabrasivemediawillbeused.
- occurringvibrationsoroscillations,causedbyunfavorableoperating conditions,willbeeliminatedbytheuseofcompensatorpipesortubes.
- thecomponentsareoperatedonlyinafault-free, operational condition andinparticularthesafetydevicesareregularlycheckedtoensure thattheyfunctionasstipulated.
- thecomponentsarenotexposedtoexcessiveloads(forcesandmoments fromthepipeline).Accordingtotheinstallationconditionsthedistanceof thesupportsandtheflexibilityofthepipelineshouldbecalculated.

1.3 Basic safety measuresKeeping information available:
Thisoperatingmanualmustbekeptnearthedevice.Itmustbeensuredthatallpersonswhohavetoperformactivitiesonthedevicecanconsulttheoperatingmanualatanytime.Inadditiontotheoperatingmanual,jobcontrolstatementswithinthemeaningoftheHealthandSafetyatWorkActandtheregulationgoverningtheuseoftoolsandequipmentmustalsobeprovided.
Alllabelsonthedevicewhichdisplaysafetyandoperatinginstructions mustalwaysbekeptlegible.Wornordamagedlabelsmustbereplacedimmediately.
Before starting:
Familiarizeyourselfsufficientlywith
- thedevice’soperatingandcontrolelements- thedevice’sfittings- howthedeviceworks- theimmediateenvironmentofthedeviceInstallation
- Duringtheinstallationallsteamandwaterpipingmustbeclosed withthehelpofshut-offvalves(Dangerofburning)

Before every starting the following procedures have to be carried out:
- Thetightnessoftheinstallationhastobecontrolledduringthestart-up- Thevalvesofthewatershouldbeopenedbeforethesteamvalve- Checktomakesurethatallsafetydevicesarefittedandfunctioning.- Checkthedeviceforvisibledamage;anydefectsfoundmustbe correctedimmediatelyorreportedtothesupervisor-thedevicemay only be operated if it is free of faults.
- Makesurethatonlyauthorizedpersonsremainwithintheoperatingarea ofthedeviceandthatnootherpersonsareendangeredwhenthedevice is started up.
In normal operation:
Whilethedeviceisinoperation,nosafetydevicesmayberemovedor deactivated.
Theoperatingpersonnelmustmakesurethatnounauthorizedpersonsremainwithintheoperatingareaofthedevice.
Atleastonceaweek,thefollowingcheckingactivitiesmustbeperformed:
- Thetightnessoftheinstallationhastobecontrolled- Thefunctionofsafetydeviceshastobecontrolled- Theinjectormustbecontrolledrelatingtodefects

Changes to the device:
Forsafetyreasons,nounauthorizedchangesmaybemadetothedevice-this also applies to welding work on bearing parts.
Allplannedchangesmustbeauthorizedinwritingbythecompany Kämpken & Fischer GmbH.
Ifanychangesorrepairswillbedonebyunauthorizedpersonnel allwarrantiesareinvalid.
Partsandspecialfittingswhichwerenotsuppliedbyusarealso notapprovedbyusforusein/onthedevice.
1.4 Requirements of operating personnelThedevicemayonlybeoperatedbypersonswhohavebeenspecially trained,briefedandauthorized.Thesepersonsmustbefamiliarwiththe operatingmanualandactinaccordancewithit.Therespectiveareasof authorityoftheoperatingpersonnelmustbeclearlydefined.
Allcontrolandsafetydevicesmustbeoperatedonlybypersons whohavebeensuitablyinstructed.

Danger from processing materials and other substances:
Whilethedeviceisrunning,dangerouswastegases,steam,dust,vapors,liquids,...canescape.Adequateventilationorfilteringmustthereforebeguaranteed.
Asaspecialprotectivedeviceagainstthechemicalsused,arinsingfacilityforthe eyes must be installed.
When working on Steam Injectors there is a risk of
- havingcontactwithirritant oraggressiveproduct
Danger from noise:
Thecontinuoussoundpressurelevelattheworkplacesoftheoperatingper-sonnelis70-85dB(A).
Dependingonthelocalconditions,highersoundpressurelevelscanoccur,whichcancausedeafness,lossofbalanceordiminishedalertness.Inthiscasetheoperatingpersonnelmustbeprovidedwithadequatepersonalpro-tectiveequipment.
Rememberthatwhilethedeviceisrunningvoicecommunicationandacousticsignals,e.g.hootingofvehicles,areimpaired.
Observethenoiseprovisionsinthejobcontrol statementforyourworkplaceandusethepersonal protectiveequipmentprescribed.

3. Product Description3.1 Prescribed use
Steam Heaters
SteamInjectorsareoftenusedtoheatwaterorotherliquidmediainthe productioncycle.TheseSteamHeatersusuallyworkinclosedcircuits, in tanks and other pipelines.
Heatingprocessescanfindplaceinonlyonesteporinclosedcircuitswith adefinedStart-andFinalTemperature.InthemajorityitisthefluidsinGroup2. IffluidsinGroup1mustbeheated,Article3ofthePressureEquipmentDirective97/23/EGconcerningthedefinitionoftherelevantcategoryhastobeconsidered.
Pipeline mountingSteamInjectorscanbemountedinpipelineswithlooseorfixedflanges accordingtoDINorANSI-Standards.
Mounting inside of a vesselKaempken & FischerSteamInjectorsalsocanbeinstalledbelowliquid/waterleveltodirectlyheatwaterorotherwatercompatibleliquidmediainside containers,vesselsortanks.
Thesteamwillbequietlyinducedintotheliquidandcompletelycondensed.Thesuctioneffectoftheinjectorcausesamediumflowinsidethevessel andthiscausesauniformtemperatureinsidethecontainer.
Hot-Water-StationAone-timepassingwaterflowwithalargeΔtcanbeheatedwiththesestations.Severalsteaminjectorsarearrangedinseriesandarecontrolledbya thermostaticcontrolvalve.Thesamepurposeisachievedbymulti-stagedunits.

3.2 StructureKaempken & Fischersteamheatersaccomplishtherequirementsofsilentlyfeedingsteamintothemediumyetachievingmaximumheattransmission.
Thesteaminjectors/mixingnozzlesessentiallyconsistofahousingin whichaventuri-nozzleandaconicallyconstructeddiffuserarelocated. Bothcomponentsformanannulargap,whichlimitsthesteamrateofthedevice.Theinjectorsareparticularlyadvantageousbecauseoftheirmountingsizeandthustheycanbeinstalledinsideanyvessel,tankorcontainer.
TheInjectorsforpipelinemountingarefittedwithlooseorfixedflanges inDINorANSIstandard.
TheyaremanufacturedinthesizesDN15(½“)untilDN350(14“) on the water side.
ThestandardexecutionisPN16(untilDN150or6“)orPN10=150# (fromDN200,8“tillDN350,14“).HigherpressuregroupslikePN100or300#arealsoavailable.
Theinjectorsforvesselmountingarefittedwithasteamflangeorpipethread.

ThetypeofIFA/IFMforthetankinteriorinstallationcombinestheadvantagesoftheformertypeofIFF/ILF/IGEwithrespecttoquietsteaminjectionintoacontainerbythealreadydescribedventuriprinciplewithasteamlancewhichisinsertedfromoutsidethroughanappropriatelysizednozzleintoacontainerandcanbescrewedonthis.
A montage from the inside of the tank does not apply to this unit.
Wecanofferequipmentfrom DN50toDN250.
Thesteamflowratesarethe samewiththetablevaluesfor theinjectorstothetankinteriorinstallationonpage16.
Theseareusuallycustom designs,suchasweadaptthelengths,nozzlesforconnectingonstandpipesandSteam-connecting-flangestotheseconditions.
Withatemperaturecontrol,theamountofsteamcanbefedthroughacontrolvalveupstreamoftheinjectorinalargecontrolareainthetank.
Forthistype,thesamesafety,operatingandmaintenanceinstructions,asforallothersteaminjectorslistedinthismanual,havetobeconsidered.

Multi-staged Heating of Tanks and Vessels
Toincreasetheperformanceofourinjectorsandtobeabletoinjectmoresteaminashortertimeinavessel,wehavemodifiedourmodelsoftheIFA-series.Theunitshaveupto5additionalinjectionnozzlesinthetransversedirectionandfurthermoretheexitinthelongitudinaldirection.ThroughthisthesteamthroughputofasteamlanceofsizeDN80canbeincreasedfrom700kg/hupto2100kg/h.Ifitwaspreviouslynecessarytoinstallseveralinjectorsinthevessel,thesenowcanbereplacedbytheuseofasingledevice. Thenumberofcorrespondingvesselnozzlescanbereducedasmuch.
Otherindividualconfigurationsarepossible,suchasaT-shapedSteam-Lancewithoutletsinthreedifferentdirections,whichisconnectedtoaflangeattheinsideofthevessel.
Alsocircularformationsandindividuallyshapedlancesarepossible.
Theoutletopeningscanalso be in opposite di-rections,orarespirallyarranged,inordertoreachatargetedvesselheatdis-tribution.

Duetothediversityofpossiblevariants,wecannotrepresentall dimensions. Concreteproposalson the types are availableonrequest.
3.3 Description of functionsSteam Injectors / Mixing NozzlesThemediumtobeheatedisacceleratedinaventurinozzle.Aconicaldiffusor isofsuchembodimentthatanannularslotisformedbetweentheconeand theouternozzlediameter.Thesteamisfedtangentiallyintotheouterjacketofthehousingandescapesthroughtheannularslot.Atthestageanannularjetcoverstheproductand condensesthesame.Thecondensationstillfindsplaceinthesteaminjectorandnotinthefollowingpipeline.Thesteamquantitycanbecontrolledfrom0-100%,becausetheinjectoris abletosuckinalsoaverysmallquantityofsteam.Onthewatersidethecontrolrangeisrestricted.Avelocityofmin0,8-max.3,0m/secisnecessary.Weproposetochoosethesizeofthesteaminjectorsinthatwaythatthe velocityis1,5m/sec.
Recooling of superheated steamIncaseofcoolingsuperheatedsteam,thesteamflowsthroughtheventuri nozzleandthewaterwillbefedbythetangentialstandpipe.Byatemperaturecontrolunitthewaterquantitycanbecontrolledexactly.

Multi-Stage Steam-Injectors for pipeline mounting
Toreducethespacerequirementsandmaterialusageandcosts,wehavedeveloped2-and3-stagevariants,whichallowustoincreasetheperformanceofthesteaminjectorsto3-fold.SeveralinternalpartsareinstalledinonlyoneCaseandaresuppliedthroughanoutercasingpipewithsteam.Allpreviouslyrequiredflangesbetweenthestepsbecomenolongernecessary.
Theouterdimensionshavebeenreducedtoaminimumandtheresultisanextremelycompactdevice,whichcanbeinstalledandconnectedwith little effort.
Thedevicesareavailableinallsizesofferedtodate,butalsocustomizeddesignsarepossible.

Charactaristics of the Steam Injectors
Usage of the throughput curves for steam:
Example:It is intended to determine thesizeofasteaminjectorfor a steam throughput of220kg/hatasteampressureof5bar(g)andacounterpressureof 4,3bar(g).
Tracedownverticallyfromthatpointwherethecurvefor the operating pressure intersectsthehorizontalpressure head line. Itcanbeseenthatthisquantityofsteamisfedbyaninjector40/25or50/25.Dotsbeneaththecriticalpressure ration bring about the maximum output of the injectorwiththeoperatingpressure.
Notefordimensioning:TheΔtshouldbemax.30° K per step. Is a larger Δtdesired,severalstepsmustbeprovided.

4. Setting up the deviceWhensettinguptheSteamInjectors,youmustobservethefollowingsafetyins-tructionsinordertoavoidlethalinjury,damagetothedeviceandothermaterialdamage.
- Thestepsinvolvedinsettingupthedevice-assemblyandinstallation- mayonlybecarriedoutbyqualifiedpersonstakingintoaccount thesafetyinstructions.
- Beforeyoubeginsettingupthedevice,itmustbecheckedforany damagesincurredduringtransport.
- Shut-OffValvesofwaterandsteammustbeclosed.- Thepipelineshavetobedischargedandtheflangesmustbeclosed with the help of gaskets.
- TheInjectorhastobeinstalledinacorrectflowpathandwiththe requiredsealings.
- Anyinstallationpositionoftheinjectorcanbechoosed.- Weproposetoinstalltheinjectorswithzinc-coatedscrews. Usingstainlesssteelboltsandnutscanleadtogrindingofthematerial.
- Weproposetheinstallationofanon-returnvalvebehindthesteamvalve.
- Allsteampipelinesshouldbeinsulatedtoavoidcontact with the hot pipeline.
- Readalsothechapter„Generalsafetyinstructions“.

5. Putting the device into operationWhenputtingthedeviceintooperation,youmustobservethefollowingsafetyinstructionsinordertoavoidlethalinjury,damagetothedeviceandothermate-rial damage.
Thedevicemayonlybeputintooperationbyqualifiedpersonstakingintoac-countthesafetyinstructions.
- Makesurethatonlyauthorizedpersonsremaininthedevice’soperating areaandthatnootherpersonsareendangeredwhenthedeviceisput into operation.
- Beforestartingthedeviceforthefirsttime,makesurethatalltools andforeignpartshavebeenremovedfromthedevice.
- Readthechapter„Generalsafetyinstructions“.
- Generallywepropose:
- Shut-OffValvesofwaterandsteammustbeclosed
- Thetightnessoftheinstallationhastobecontrolledduringthestart-up
- Thevalvesofthewatershouldbeopenedbeforethesteamvalve
- Attheuseofhandcleaningwithlancesandsteamheatedwateritis recommendedtomonitorthewaterflow.Atafailureinthewatersupply otherwisepuresteammayescapefromthehandlanceandburnsto theoperator.ThesteamflowcanbestoppedabruptlybyaFlow-switch intheflowofwaterorbyso-calledsafetytemperaturemonitors(STW).

6. Operating the deviceTheOperatingofsteamInjectorswillnormallybeperformedbythecentralcontrolroomofthecompanysothatspecificoperationinstructionsofthecompleteinstal-lationhavetobeobserved.Wedonotrecommendtooperatethedevicebyhand-drivenvalves.
Whenoperatingthedevice,youmustobservethefollowingsafetyinstructionsinordertoavoidlethalinjury,damagetothedeviceandothermaterialdamage.
- Thedevicemayonlybeusedasprescribed.
- Beforestartingthedevice,checkthetightnessoftheinstallation.
- Readthechapter„Generalsafetyinstructions“.
Watchoutforthefollowingspecialdangerswhileoperatingandduringnormalrunningofthedevice:
- Usingthedeviceforapplicationsotherthanthoseforwhichitis intendedcancauselethalinjuriestopersonsanddamagetothedevice.
- Negligentuseofthepersonalprotectiveequipmentcanleadto severebodilyinjuries.
- Incorrectbehaviorintheeventofamalfunctioncanleadto serious personal and material damage. You must therefore familiarizeyourselfwiththeprovisionsforcasesofmalfunction.

7. TransportWatchoutforthefollowingspecialdangerswhentransportingthedevice:
- Protrudingsharpedgescancausecuts.- Suspendedloadscanfall,thusendangeringlives. Neverstandundersuspendedloads!
- Useonlytheoriginalpackaging.- Readthechapter„Generalsafetyinstructions“.- ThesurfacesoftheInjectorsalwayshavetobecoveredwithsuitablecaps.
