The UK Professional Standards Framework

The UK Professional Standards Framework provides a general description of the main dimensions of the roles of teaching and supporting learning within the HE environment. It outlines a national Framework for comprehensively recognising and benchmarking teaching and learning support roles within Higher Education.

Options: Associate Fellow; Fellow; Senior Fellow; Principal Fellow

The Levels of Fellowship

Associate Fellow: e.g. tutors and demonstrators, more limited teaching experience

Fellow: e.g. early career academics, those with all ‘areas of activity’ from UKPSF

Senior Fellow: e.g. experienced academics, leading and mentoring others

Principal Fellow: strategic leadership in relation to learning and teaching

Recognition which is portable to other institutions

What do I need to do to complete a level of the Edinburgh Teaching Award?

Engage in and record CPD

Emphasis on CPD that makes a difference, not just showing up

Can include e.g. writing up an aspect of your practice or finding external provision that suits your interests

Final submission mapped against the UKPSF

The final submission

Two options:•Reflective blog totalling 2500 words

OR•20 minute oral presentation to a panel plus application form

Focusing on your development in relation to the UKPSF

Map experience and achievement against UKPSF descriptor

Critically reflective on your own practice

Reference to relevant literature

How will I be supported on the Edinburgh Teaching Award?

Mentor to work with you throughout the level of the award•focus on how you want to progress•discuss time plan•find CPD opportunities•support final submission, comment on blog

3 group meetings per year

Usually from six months to two years to complete a level of the award

Workload will depend a bit on what CPD you have in place
