  • Doha

Doha is a modern city with a population of 2.5m. It is working very hard preparing for the 2022

FIFA World Up and there is a lot of construction going on, including a new metro system as

    well as football stadiums.

There are plenty of activities taking place throughout the year, including many professional

sports competitions and concerts. Check this guide which will give you a flavor for Qatar. If you

enjoy the outdoors, the desert and beaches offer lots of opportunities for outdoor sport,

camping or just hanging out on a beach.

You will pretty much be able to live a life you are accustomed to, but there will obviously be

differences, which is why many of us choose to live and work in far off places. Qatar is a very

easy country to live in and is a great start to you International School career. It is also a very

    safe country to live in.

We will help you set up a bank account as soon as you arrive and you will be given access to

online banking, debit card and credit cards if you want. A car is not necessary but will give you

more freedom. There is an abundance of second hand vehicles and all at a good price. The

Here is what some of our teachers say about living in Doha and working at Oryx international

    School.

    Teacher Views

    Female, married with children.

Doha offers a good quality of life where you can spend more time with your family. The

education is very good by UK standards and there are plenty of extracurricular activities for

children, particularly sporting activities. Doha also has some beautiful safe beaches for

children as well as parks and indoor play areas.

    Single, female.

I love living in Doha because it is such a vibrant city with a large expat community. I enjoy

living and working in a multicultural environment and I have a much better work-life balance

here, compared to the UK. It is an amazing life experience and I am so glad to have this

    amazing opportunity.

I really love that the students in Qatar are motivated to learn. They look forward to coming to

school and want to work hard. In the UK I spent most of my time trying to manage the students'

behaviour, whilst in Qatar, I spend most of my time teaching. The school here is very

supportive and the standards for teaching are just as high as in the UK, but the atmosphere,

attitudes and enthusiasm of all the staff and children is inspiring.

  • Another great thing about working in Doha is that I can save money and travel! I've already

been to Sri Lanka and back to the UK and plan to go to Oman, Dubai and Bahrain in the near

    future.

Living in Qatar can be easy but also frustrating when negotiating with cab drivers. It is a safe country but like all country's common sense is needed. Accommodation is great and well furnished. Nightlife is good for all ages some great Friday brunches. Good beaches. Easy to get around - plenty of taxis. Food shopping is reasonable - but like all countries, organic is expensive - a good New Zealand rib eye will cost 5-6 in the supermarket. Average meal out 20 with wine 35 Not much in the way of local sightseeing, but there is a great Souq with good food. We also have the biggest Mosque in the Middle East.
