AMIRAH SYAKIRA BT ABDUL KHAFFARLILY FATIN AFIQAH BT BADRUSALLEHFATIN ALIAH BT ABDUL RAHMANNUR AFFINEE BT MD YUSOFHAWA NADJWA BT WAHABOCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (OSH)BFC 43501HAZARDA hazard is any source of potential damage, harm or adverse health effects on something or someone under certain conditions at work.

Basically, a hazard can cause harm or adverse effects (to individuals as health effects or to organizations as property or equipment losses).

Sometimes a hazard is referred to as being the actual harm or the health effect it caused rather than the hazard. For example, the disease tuberculosis (TB) might be called a hazard by some but in general the TB-causing bacteria would be considered the "hazard" or "hazardous biological agent".2Fall from heightsWorkers who build or install roof trusses.Cause fractures, sprains, strains, contusions, severe damage to internal organs and even death.Control measure :Assessment of fall hazards should be an integral part of the site safety planning processPortable Lift PlatformPersonal Fall Arrest SystemsFALL HAZARD STATISTICEach year workers die from falls. During the year 2007: Total deaths from falls: 835 Deaths in construction: 442 More than 50% of deaths from falls are in construction Approximately 15% of all occupational deaths are fallsNoiseDue to build or install roof trusses, wall and ceiling.A worker who is repeatedly exposed to noise at 85 decibels or above without hearing protection is at risk for serious hearing loss.Control measure :Noise Control StrategiesHearing Conservation ProgramUsing Hearing ProtectorsSkin contact with Portland cementDue to concreting activityPortland cement contains hexavalent chromium which causes allergic dermatitis. Prolonged contact with wet cement also causes skin irritation and burns.Control measure :Protecting Your Skin from Solvents, Adhesives and Other ChemicalsGood Work Practices for Working with CementPortable Hand Washing StationLifting & CarryingDue to formwork and concreting activity, wall installing, brick laying.Effect - Low back pain (LBP), Work-related lifting and forceful movements, Whole body vibration, Awkward postures (bending and twisting), Heavy physical workControl measure - Determining maximum acceptable weight limits for lifting and carrying tasks along with suggested solutions for minimizing the risk of injury from lifting or carrying.Low back pain (LBP) is among the most common health complaint in working-aged populations worldwide. In the U.S., 70%-80% of adults will experience a significant episode of LBP at least once in their lives. Episodes of LBP are characterized by varying levels of pain and symptoms in the low back (lumbar spine). Low back disorders can even cause leg pain or numbness at times.

Work-Related Risk Factors

Work-related lifting and forceful movementsWhole body vibrationAwkward postures (bending and twisting)Heavy physical work7VibrationDue to concrete vibration taskEffect - hand-arm vibration syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome.Control measure - Anti-Vibration Gloves, Reduced Vibration Power ToolsCrane swing radiusMaterial mechanically lifted , they have potential to swing and strike workers. As the load is lifted , the material may swing, twist or run and catch workers and hit them.Windy condition is the special hazard in this situation.Control measure Ensure the plants were supervise and still in good condition. When materials are mechanically lifted, they have thepotential to swing and strike workers. As the load islifted, the materials may swing, twist or turn. Thismovement can catch workers by surprise and theycould be hit by the swinging load. Windy conditionsare especially hazardous because the load will swingmore. Depending on where the worker is standing andthe force behind the load, the worker may fall toanother level after being struck and sustain evengreater injuries. In addition to swinging, loads can slipfrom their riggings and strike workers. Loads must berigged properly to prevent slippage. 9Ladder workUsed ladder 10 m above ground is usually beyond the safe reach of ladders.Lengthy ladders are dangerous to handle.Ladders are useful for carrying out short-duration, light-weight work within safe reach of the ladder There are limitations on the sort of work that can be done safely from ladders. Work more than 10 m above ground is usually beyond the safe reach of laddersLadders are useful for carrying out short-duration, light-weight work within safe reach of the ladder; typically, inspection and repair and painting of small areas of the buildings surface. Ladders also provide access in scaffolds, in excavations and in structures where more permanent access has not yet been provided.10

Only use equipment that is designed for liftingpersonnel.Thank You
