Prayer for the Sick Father of goodness and love, hear our

prayers for the sick members of our com-munity and for all who are in need. Amid

mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure ill-ness, make broken bodies whole and free

downcast spirits. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who

    healed those who believed. Amen.

HEALING MINISTRY During Jesus’ ministry “he cured many who were sick with various diseas-es, and he drove out many demons.” This is the case in today’s Gospel. Je-

sus fulfills the vision of Psalm 147: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Jesus knew, however, that he couldn’t possibly heal all the illness in the world. No matter how many people he cured or how many hours he ministered, there al-ways would be more suffering people like Job who craved his healing touch. His pri-mary mission was not to rid the world of all suffering. His “purpose” was to preach the coming of the reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and trans-forms earthly suffering. With Paul, Jesus could have said, “Woe to me if I do not preach” that good news.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Job finds life on earth to be drudgery; he is filled with restlessness (Job 7:1-4, 6-7). Psalm — Praise the Lord, who heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147). Second Reading — Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel. I have become all things to all, to save at least some (1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23). Gospel — Jesus cured many who were sick with various diseases (Mark 1:29-39).

BEGINNING AGAIN If I were to begin life again, I would want it as it was. I would only open my eyes a little more. —Jules Renard

  • Pastor’s Letter

Dear Friends, What a great week we had last week. Father Neil Healy arrived here to start his retirement. It has been 25 years since he was last here and he shared with me what a great

experience he had those many years ago. I’m glad he has chosen OLL to spend his golden years. Last week was also Catholic Schools Week and our school did a great job in celebrating it. Every day there was a different activity for the teachers, staff, students, and parents. Thank you, Kathleen, and many others, for making this such a special week. We have 225 kids in our school. We could use a whole lot more. If interested, or if you know anyone who is interested in our school, please contact our principal, Kathleen Kraft, at 415-892-8621. Thanks! We had a Liturgy Meeting this past week and we have decided on two Masses during Lent, Monday through Friday, at 7am and 9am. We also decided to have Soup, Salad, and Sta-tions (SSS) on the Fridays of Lent (except for Good Friday) beginning at 6pm with the SS, fol-lowed by Stations at 7pm. The Stations will be bilingual this year so that everyone can come together for a simple meal and praying the Stations. It’s that time of the year again, time for the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal (AAA). Our tax this year from the Archdiocese is $107,000, the highest in Marin County. I have done this with great success in other parishes and now I will try it here. The AAA will last two weeks and two weeks only: my first talk will be given today, February 8th, followed by AAA Sunday on Feb-ruary 15th, in which you will make your pledge in Church, to the Appeal. After February 15th, you will be given updates on the Appeal only through the Bulletin. I have found the quicker we do the Appeal, the more successful it will be. Hope you enjoy the talk this morning. What a great Super Bowl last Sunday. Now that Football is over, can Baseball be far be-hind? Go Giants!

    Have a great week!

    Father Brian

    Padre Brian
