HAPPY EASTER FROM OLL YOUTH MINISTRY! There will be no Middle or High School Confirmation classes for the next two weeks due to the Easter holiday and then the NUSD Spring break. Classes resume the week of April 20. Spring Clean Up Time is upon us! Do you have some work around your property that needs some extra hands? OLL YOUTH MINISTRY will be sending 25 young people to this year’s Steubenville San Diego conference this Sum-mer from July 23-26. We need your help getting there and we’re willing to work for it! While we will be fundraising in the months to come, each family is responsible for contributing $500 – this works out to be about 2/3 of their total trip cost. We have already had requests from parishioners looking to hire out yard help, set-up/clean-up for events, etc. If you have any opportunities for our teens, please contact the youth ministry office. ([email protected]; 897-2171 x277) Thanks! If you are interested in learning more about what our teens will experience during this powerful week-end, please visit www.allforgodcatholic.org and click on the “Steubenville San Diego” tab.

In response to the call of Pope Francis who declared 2015 the Year of Consecrated Life, the Archdioce-san Council of Religious is presenting the film, "Women and Spirit" based on the exhibit of the same name which toured throughout the United States. It chronicles the history of the thousands of Sisters who came to this country and founded the Catholic School system, built hospitals, orphanages, homes for the poor, mental institutions, and many more pro-grams benefitting the poor and marginal-ized. Following the film, there will be a panel of four women religious: Daughters of Charity, Sisters of Mercy, Franciscan Sisters, and Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who will speak of their work in the Archdiocese as well as throughout the world. The event is sponsored by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, the Knights of Columbus, San Mateo Coun-cil, and the San Mateo Serra Club. All are welcome as our guests.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION When we imagine the disciples cowering behind locked doors on the first East-er, it is a matter of the greatest urgency that the doors get opened. They are not locked in as if in prison; rather, they have chosen to marinate in fear. Both the lock and the key stand on their side of the door, in their control. Christ breaks through this signifi-cant barrier with a message of “Peace.” The risen Lord’s word propels them through the door and along the path leading to the consoling image of the community living in harmony in the first reading today. What do we pray for in our tradition? More than anything else, we pray for peace. Every Mass is an earnest prayer for peace with God, with

self, with neighbor, and for peace in the world. Yet, curiously, the peace Christ of-fers is deeper than the mere absence of conflict. Our tradition treasures the memo-ries of saints who were remarkably open to Christ’s gift of peace even in the mael-stroms of history. St. Edith Stein and St. Maximillian Kolbe, martyrs of the Holo-caust, are but two examples. At the eye of a fearful storm, they stand as witnesses to the power of Christ’s rising in our lives.

Dear Parishioners The culmination of our Lenten and Holy Week prayer and sacrifice has been seen in Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday morning. Like all realities it sometimes takes a while for the full impact to become clear. In today’s gos-pel (Easter Tuesday) Mary Magdalen is at the tomb weeping because, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.” She no sooner says this, when a stranger, she thinks is the gardener, calls her name, “Mary”. At that moment she turns and says, “Rabbouni”. Acknowledged by name, Mary immediately recognizes Jesus. She is still overwhelmed and maybe a bit confused but she is relieved that she has “seen the Lord”. She embraces the mission that comes from recognizing the Christ and runs to announce to the disciples that, “I have seen the Lord”. Sometimes it takes a while to see beyond the surface, to see and experience the resurrection of Christ in us. These special days of Easter are a time for us to be attentive and ask Jesus to reveal His new life within us; to reveal His mercy and love that is present in us, both individually and collectively. As a parish we have shared in the rich Holy Week and Easter liturgies made possible by so many individuals. What we see on the surface is there, because of the generosity of others; actions often done behind the scenes. We are very grateful for all that each one of you has done, seen or unseen, to make our Easter such a blessed one. “Thank You” to Rich Elliot and Johnnie Solis and the members of the English and Spanish choirs for the many hours of practice and the beautiful music and song provided for our liturgies; to the EM’s, Lectors, Servers and Ushers; to the Altar Society who cleaned, polished, and prepared the Church; to the Spanish community for preparing the Altar of Repose and setting up the hall for Easter Sunday; to the Staff members, especially Patrick, Nick and Roberto who supplied the heavy lift-ing; to those that helped with decorating, Kris Wiley, Jean Ledoux and Irene Reich; and to those of you who brought Lilies, Orchids and Calla Lilies. Thank you so very much. May God bless each of you. Sister Jeanette, OSU

GENEROSIDAD La generosidad no consiste en dar mucho, sino en dar a tiempo. —Anónimo

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS God, our Father, In Your love and providence, You call each of us to a more holy and abundant life. We pray for our young people in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Open their hearts and minds to know the vocation You have planned for them for all eternity. If they are being invited to follow You as a priest, Brother, or Sister, give them a generous heart to respond to Your challenging call and the strength to follow wherever You lead them. May families desire to please You by encouraging and supporting vocations within their homes. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd. Amen. If you think God is calling you to the priesthood or religious life and would to learn how to re-spond, you may contact Fr. David Schunk in the Office of Vocations: 415-614-5684, [email protected]

Hermana Jeanette, OSU
