We mourn the death of George Safie who passed away January 15, 2019.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to

his family and friends.

May his memory be eternal!

Melkite Minute – Approaching the Eucharist

This morning’s minute will be about how to respectfully and reverently approach the Eucharist. First of all, the reason we all gather together in Christ here at the Divine Liturgy is for the ultimate feast of

our Lord in the form of His body and blood at Communion. Participants must:

Cross or fold hands and walk reverently without talking or visiting others in a pew Make a metany just before receiving Christ

Open your mouth wide and get close to the priest and/or deacon in order to receive the Eucharist Make a metany after receiving the Eucharist

Continue to cross or fold your arms in quiet reflection as you return to your seat and pray If you have small children, please let the priest and/or deacon know if your child should only receive a

blessing, or the Eucharist. Make sure you have prepared your child to receive Communion. Again, no communication with anyone during this holy and solemn time; just quiet reflection and prayer as

Jesus is alive in us, and this is the most sacred part of our Divine Liturgy. It is equally critical to remain in the church until the final blessing of the Divine Liturgy.

In Christ.

Almighty Master, Physician of souls and bodies; Who humble and exalt; Who chastise and heal: in Your great mercy visit Your servant, (N) who is in distress. Stretch forth Your loving hand and

heal (me, him, her, them) for Your name’s sake. Put far from (me, him, her, them) every disease, malady, wound, fever or seizure. If (I have; he,

she has) any sins or transgressions, forgive them for the sake of Your great love for mankind. Yes, Lord, have mercy on Your creature through Jesus Christ our Lord with whom You are blessed, to-gether with Your all-holy, good and life-creating

Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Schedule for Liturgy Intentions THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING

TO SAINT LUKE

At that time as Jesus was passing through Jericho, behold there was a man named Zacchaeus; and he was a leading publican, and he was rich. And he was trying to see Jesus, to find out who he was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and

climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was going to pass that way. And when Jesus

came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come

down; for I must stay in your house today.” And he made haste and came down, and welcomed him joyfully. And upon seeing it, all began to

murmur, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood and

said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, I give one-half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it

fourfold.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he, too, is the son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and

to save what was lost.”

Epistle

Prokimenon My mouth shall speak wisdom, prudence shall

be the utterance of my heart. Stichon: Hear this, all you peoples: hearken, all

who dwell in the world.

Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews

Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent undefiled, set apart

from sinners and become higher than the heavens. He does not need to offer sacrifices

daily (as the other priests did), first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people; for this latter he did once for all in offering up himself. For the Law appoints as priests men who are weak but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son who is forever perfect. Now the main point in what we are

saying is this: we have such a high priest who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne

of majesty in the heavens, a minister of the Holies and of the true tabernacle, which the

Lord has set up and not man.

Alleluia The mouth of the just yields wisdom, but the

perverse tongue will be cut off. Stichon: The law of his God is in his heart, and

his steps shall not falter.

Thirteenth Sunday After the Holy Cross Tone 3

Hymns: Troparion of the Resurrection (3

rd tone)

Let all in heaven rejoice and all on earth be glad, for the Lord has exerted power with His arm: By death He has trampled upon Death and has become the firstborn from the dead. He has delivered us from the bosom of Hades and has granted to the world great mercy. Troparion of Saint John Chrysostom: The grace that shines forth from your mouth like a torch has enlightened the universe, bestowed treasures of generosity upon the world, and shown us the heights of humility. While you teach us through your words, pray to the Word, Christ our God, that He may save our souls

Troparion of the Patron of the Church

In giving birth you have preserved your virginity and in falling asleep you did not forsake the world, O Mother of God. You have passed to life being the Mother of Life. Through Your intercession, save our souls from death.

Kondakion of the Presentation of our Lord :

O Christ our God who through your birth have sanctified the virginal womb and have now blessed the arms of Simon, today You have come to save us. O Lord, when wars prevail, keep your people in peace and strengthen our Public Authorities in every good deed, for You alone are the lover of Mankind.
