Our Lady of Sorrows ChurchFebruary 21, 2010

    From the Pastors Desk

    My Dear People:

Lent started this past Wednesday, andif we dont get closer to God duringLent, we probably will never get closerto God. It is a holy season. Godbecame much closer to us throughJesus dying for our sins; we get closerto Him by taking up some kind of crossduring Lent.

During Lent, with Mary and St. Johnwe should look upon Jesus on thecross, crucified for our sins. He longsfor our attention and love. He loves usso much and we cant take His loveand throw it back at Him and notappreciate His goodness to us.

The greatest way to show our

appreciation for Gods love is tocelebrate the Lords Supper; it is anact of appreciation of His death for oursins and an act of appreciation of Hisresurrection which is His promise to usof a wonderful life after death. So, ifpossible, put an extra attendance atMass during the week at the top of thelist for Lent.

The fruit of the Mass is in theEucharist, and we have Jesus Himself, physically present in the Church and inthe Chapel of Our Savior. For Lent wecould make an extra visit.

Another way we can show ourappreciation of His love for us is by

praying the Stations of the Cross, withor without a booklet, with thecommunity on Friday nights orprivately.

The third way we can show that we

appreciate Him and His forgiveness isby reciting the Chaplet of DivineMercy.

I am sure each one of us is doingsomething personal and extra this holyseason.

The pope recently said we need toshow extra kindness to others during

Lent and we offer the suggestion ofstarting with members of our ownfamilies; then the people with whomwe work, and the people next door.

Some of us are so kind to others untilwe get into our automobiles. Thereare sins of dangerous driving---endangering ourselves and those we

    might hit with our automobiles.

What about when we park the car inplaces reserved for the handicappedand elderly? The front handicappedparking lot is reserved (with all thoseblue lines) for the elderly andhandicapped. If we can walk we needto use the back parking lot, or parkingdeck when coming to Mass. Just

because the place is open, does notmean there is not an elderly person inback of us waiting to use the placereserved for them. We hearcomplaints from the elderly andhandicapped so we must pass this onto those who rob them of theirreserved parking places when they try

to come to Mass and there is nospecial parking. Please exercisekindness in this regard. Thanks!

    With prayers and blessing,Fr. Muller
