The Men Behind the
ROH Sisterhood A Techie, A Banker, A Data
Chart Maker
There is a quiet group of three very talented,
modest men who could easily be considered
"The Founding Fathers" of the Ribbon of
Hope Foundation. Rick Miller, Tom
Rueckl, and Clark Steinhardt are those men.
It is not hyperbole to state that their com-
bined efforts have paved the way for the
remarkable success, amazing fiscal respon-
sibility, and enthusiasm for caring that are
hallmarks of the foundation.
Each man is connected in a very special way
to the women who founded The Ribbon
Hope at a kitchen table meeting in 2003.
Rick Miller, husband of a much loved foun-
der, the late Kathy Miller, sat at that same
kitchen table, and was not only one of the
founders, but has been along for every step
of the journey since that meeting. Rick is
the watch dog of the bottom line at the Rib-
bon of Hope and is the one most proud of
the work that continues to grant $.97 of
every $1.00 raised. Rick has the reputation
not only for having a quiet strength and fo-
cused mind, but also for being able to trou-
bleshoot and fix any technology glitch the
ROH office experiences. Being in the lime-
light is not Rick's style…but you can be
certain he leaves his mark on every facet of
the foundation.
Tom Rueckl's connection to the organiza-
tion came through his mother Linda, a
breast cancer survivor in attendance at that
now famous kitchen table meeting. Realiz-
ing that it was going to take scores and
scores of volunteers to keep the mission and
momentum of ROH moving ahead, Tom
joined the effort at the start. As the grant
requests grew exponentially each month,
Tom helped to create a granting process that
earned him a spot on the grants committee!
As the only male on that committee, he is
credited with bringing a point of view that is
often the impetus for thinking outside of the
box when it comes to mainlining help. In
addition, Tom handles the foundation's
banking…the banking that keeps track of
over $671,000 in grants.
Clark Steinhardt is the "Data Whisperer" for
the organization! His genius is put to the
test in creating massive spread sheets, re-
ports, and charts that track all the foundation
data. From recipient information and cate-
gories of disbursements, to demographic
details and materials used in grant writing
efforts and public speaking events, Clark's
role is fundamental to the amazing ROH
legacy. Married to another kitchen table
meeting participant, Meg Steinhardt, Clark
is truly part of the foundation's foundation.
These three men, each of whom give so
generously of their time and talent, have the
heartfelt gratitude of all associated with The
Ribbon of Hope. They exemplify "service
above self."

THE BREAST RIDE IN TOWN
For six years in a row, Anita
Everard has been orchestrating and
directing the "Unique All Women's
Breast Cancer Awareness Ride.”
It's another jaw-dropping story
about a simple idea taking on a life
of its own and becoming a vehicle
for fund-raising of monumental
proportion. The six events have
netted a six figure total that has
enabled the foundation to touch
scores and scores of lives.

The Genius of Fund-Raising for Ribbon of Hope What does playing golf, tennis, or basketball have in common with running, bar tending, denim, and pink hair?
Easy answer!! Raising nearly $200,000 for the Ribbon of Hope Foundation…Read on…
THE GREEN BAY COUNTRY CLUB
GOLF OUTING For the third year, the GBCC lady golfers planned
an evening of fun to benefit the Ribbon of Hope.
Couples enjoyed golf with a few twists, a silent
auction, a champagne diamond raffle,
and sumptuous hors d'oeuvres… and
the foundation enjoyed a generous ad-
dition to the grant pool.
THE DEPERE KIWANIS GOLF
OUTING On a sunny August day at Mid Vallee Golf
Course, over one hundred golfers joined together
to raise dollars in honor of two Kiwanis members
who have died from cancer. The DePere Kiwanis
has generously made the Ribbon of Hope the
beneficiary of this event for several years.
WESTERN RACQUET and FITNESS Enthusiasm runs high for the Ribbon
of Hope at Western Racquet. Fund
raising was "served" courtside in
September with tennis drills, a lunch-
eon, and a silent auction.
TWO MILES of SMILES WALK/RUN
One hundred and fifty people turned
out to celebrate the memory of Judy
Reckelberg on July 3, 2010, at
Janda's Bar. It was the sixth annual
walk/run in honor of Judy Reckelberg, who
died of breast cancer in 2005. Judy was a
friend and neighbor of Paul and Karen Janda,
proprietors of Janda's. The ROH Foundation
has been the recipient of the proceeds five of
the six years and is humbled to be the steward
of the dollars raised in memory of this lovely
lady.
CELEBRITY BAR TENDING February brings President's Day, Valentine's Day, and the Ribbon of Hope Celebrity
Bar Tending Event! Scores of Ribbon of Hope aficionados gathered in the Aloft
Hotel bar to enjoy conversation and beverages served by local notables. This year's
wait staff included Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, Green Bay District Attorney, John
Zakowski, a long time ROH friend from TV 2, Bill Jartz, and surgeon, Dr. Jeff
Dierberg. It was reported that Jeff prepared for the event by enrolling in a bar tending
course, and that his martinis were the drink of choice that evening. The
Aloft generously donated their wait staff's time and a percentage of the reve-
nue, and contributed a one-night get away to the bucket raffle. The Fab
Four donated not only their time and expertise, but their hefty tips as well!
EXTENDING HAIR, EXTENDING
HOPE Who would have ever dreamed that pink hair
extensions would nearly become a fad? Keith
and Kim Zimmerman of Keith's Haircenter con-
clusively proved that no idea can be discounted
when it comes to raising money for the Ribbon
of Hope! The Zimmermans coordinated an ex-
tension campaign that put over 1000 women (and
a few men!) on the streets of the Green Bay area
sporting pink tresses. Never say "never", and
always say "yes" to the hometown, grass roots
efforts of people helping each other through the
Ribbon of Hope.

BASKETBALLIN and DANCIN for BREAST CANCER Inspired by a teacher diagnosed with breast cancer, three remarkable young men, all
students at Bay Port High School, set out to raise funds for The Ribbon of Hope.
Nick Beese, Zach Broberg, and Joe Calewarts organized the event around a basketball
game and school dance. Showing off organization skills befitting professional event
planners, the boys orchestrated the sale of over 600 pink shirts sporting the name of
their admired teacher. To complete the ensemble, they designed and marketed pink
"Fight-Believe-Conquer" bracelets. Not yet done, they secured autographed Packers
items for a 50/50 raffle and organized their peers to carry out a "Miracle Minute" dash
though the bleachers to collect donations from game spectators. With the help of a
mentor teacher, Ms. Lindsay Matuszewski, Nick, Zach, and Joe demonstrated the
remarkable potential of tomorrow's leaders. Bravo!!
AON FRIDAY FUN RAISER
The employees at Aon
Risk Services love a
chance to wear jeans to
work…And with a
local cause in mind,
they occasionally do so! During
Breast Cancer Awareness month,
the "Jeans Friday" cause was the
Ribbon of Hope. In addition to
denim, and a lot of fun, the day
included a bake sale and a raffle.
DINING Al FRESCO for ROH One of the most popular auction items at the annual golf outing is a gourmet dinner for
20 prepared, presented, and underwritten by Green Bay's Traveling Chef, Chris
Mangless. This is the story of neighborhood relationships. Chris was first asked to
work his magic for ROH by a neighbor of his parents five years ago. Every year
since, he has devoted days of prep, a long day of set up, and service for a spectacular
evening. What began with neighbors asking for a favor has turned into a series of
friendships, and an extraordinary way to raise dollars.
This year's event was held under the stars in the main building of Mayflower Nursery,
courtesy of owner Jan Wos. Using three old farm tables, Jan's patio grill and nearby
kitchen, and the natural beauty of the setting, guests were treated to cocktails, appetiz-
ers, and a gourmet, six-course dining experience. Chris has plans in the works to ex-
pand his business to a site on Broadway in Green Bay. Ribbon of Hope is fortunate,
indeed, to count Chris Mangless among its friends.

Flying Pig Golf Cart created by Larry Oberman and his crew at Fast Signs for the 8th Annual
Ribbon of Hope Golf Challenge.
THE 8th ANNUAL ROH GOLF CHALLENGE The day after the 7th annual golf outing, planning began for the 8th! This year's event was held
on June 28th at Thornberry Creek Country Club. Another sell-out, 44 golf teams and 300 din-
ers enjoyed the tradition, good will, and fund raising energy of this event. Bill Jartz, an eight
time repeater on auctioneer duty, juiced up the bidders, Larry Oberman of FastSigns created a
"Flying Pig Golf Cart", and a pink version of the Green Master's Jacket was worn in team pic-
tures. The proceeds from this event accounts for $90,000 of our grand total.

M&I MULLIGANS Daniel Webster defines a "mulligan"
as a stew made from odds and ends
of food; or, as a golf shot not
counted against the score in unoffi-
cial play. When golfers come to-
gether for the Ribbon of Hope, it's
not stew they're interested in! For a
nominal fee for a Pink Ribbon
cause, Northbrook County Club
golfers bought themselves "shots
not counted" Mulligans from ROH
founder Linda Rueckl. The
"unofficial scores" had everyone
smiling!

THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL As is our tradition, we've included an envelope in this newsletter just in
case you've been on the hunt for an organization to gift….An organiza-
tion that grants $.97 of every dollar raised and or donated….an organi-
zation that is built on the ideals of being our sister's keeper, and the val-
ues of determination, perseverance, "stick-to-itiveness"! That would
certainly be the Ribbon of Hope Foundation. Thank you in advance for
your consideration.

PAY IT FORWARD Every year, the ROH board is moved by the countless individuals who
at one time received assistance from the foundation and then re-establish
contact to make a contribution back to the grant fund. There have been
bequests of IRAs and designations of memorial funds; donations of jew-
elry home party proceeds; motorcycle rides and gifts of art. The gener-
osity abounds…we are grateful.

Heartfelt Thanks from Grateful Hearts The cards and notes received at the ROH office are sterling examples of individuals making
a conscious decision to lead a grateful life in the middle of an extremely stressful situation:
The gift meant so much…is was of great help at a time when we were not sure how things
could work out….thank you many times over.
Thank you for your generous gift; thank you for your encouragement; thank you for being a
huge blessing to my family.
You have been so kind, and so compassionate….your group is amazing! You have helped my
family and me so much. Thank you.
I was deeply touched by your generosity. This kindness makes the experience I've had a little
easier. Thank you all for your hard work …God bless you.
If not for organizations like yours, people like me would not be able to make it through.
Thank you for lightening my stress load.
Thank you" is hardly enough…
You have been a blessing…I am so grateful for the check. It brought me much needed peace
of mind.
I can't thank you enough for the financial support. Know that someday I will pay this forward.
