... A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL LIBRARY....Many thanks to all parents, grandparents and community members who attended Open Day last week and so kindly sponsored books on behalf of our students.

I am proud to say this was the most supported book sponsoring event we have had to date. Children are happily receiving their books in library lessons this week and are the first to borrow these new books which sport a ‘sponsored by’ sticker inside. On their return, books will be added to our wonderful school library collection for others to enjoy for many years to come.

RemindersThe theme for this year’s Book Week is “Reading Is My Secret Power”. During library lessons this term, students have related how reading empowers them. Parents and family would be surprised at some of the reasons children love to be immersed in a book. “When my little sister annoys, me I read”, “When I am in trouble I read to escape to another world”, are examples. In celebration of this special week, the following is happening during Book Week.

Book Character Parade - Monday August 19 2pmChildren are asked to dress as a character from any book held in the school library, preferably one of the Premier’s Reading Challenge books they have read, e.g. Mr Huff, Mr Darcy the Dancing Duck, The Viking, Gary, The Recess Queen, The Twits, Pippi Longstocking, Rowan of Rin. They may also dress to suit the above theme. Students are to arrive at school dressed in their costumes to enjoy the atmosphere of the day.

Please note that students know how to search for books using the school library catalogue, ORBIT. This program can also be accessed from home through the student portal to assist in choosing their character. It is important that the character name is displayed so others may be inspired to read the books from which they hail.

Our students love this day and all are welcome to view them in the grand parade on the top oval.

School Performance - Tuesday 20th AugustStudents will enjoy the performance “Pick a Peck of Pickled Poems” brought to us by School Performance Tours, with over 30 years of touring theatre experience.

We look forward to an exciting time during Book Week.

... YEAR 1 BOW TEST Friday August 23

Year 1 students are continuing to enjoy their violin class and are excited to have moved on to mastering the bow! They are now working hard on their little part in the School Musical.

During their normal violin lesson time on August 23 they will all participate in the “Bow Test” and will get to hear from the other members of the String Family - Cello and Double Bass, and have the opportunity to hold, pluck, and bow on these. Be sure to ask them how they enjoyed the Bass Instruments of the String Ensemble.

Parents are then invited to come along to our Music Information Night on September 10, at 6pm in the school hall to hear about ongoing musical opportunities at EHPS and how to join an ensemble.

As we are planning early for 2020, there will be registration forms available that evening to register your interest and identify 2 preferred string instruments. Or perhaps you are already planning to try Wind, Brass or Percussion in Year 3 - this Information evening is relevant to you too! If you have any questions, please contact Fiona Brock at [email protected].
