A career as an activity leader and instructor can be an extremely rewarding one, combining a healthy, active and adventurous lifestyle with the rewards from working with and having a positive impact on people of all ages and backgrounds.

You will train in our amazing Outdoor Activity Centre that is set within the 190 acre Kirkley Hall estate where you will interact with real customers and be well prepared for your career as a result. This centre includes:

• a high and low ropes course• assault course• 13m climbing wall• zip wire• archery• woodland activity trail where you’ll develop bush-craft skills• we also have a water sports base at Blyth

Our courses will further develop your team work and leadership skills and you’ll acquire additional skills within health and safety and risk assessment. You will also develop skills to help you manage different types of parties including those with additional support needs.

Northumberland has some of the most beautiful and challenging countryside in England for outdoor adventurous activities, so you’ll have everything you need to develop your skills right on your doorstep. You’ll get to go on residential trips all over the UK and further afield to develop your climbing, hiking and navigation skills.

Level 3 Outdoor Activity Advanced

Duration One yearCourse code TBCLocation Kirkley Hall What will I study on this course?• SPA (Single Pitch Award)• MLTA (Mountain Leader)• CWA (Climbing Wall Award)• NVQ 3 Outdoor programmes

A variety of advanced instruction and leading units that will enable you to progress into the industry.

The Mountain Leader is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. Become aMountain Leader and you’ll never look back (unless you’re checking your group’s still there!).

The Climbing Wall Award trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. It is ideal for people who work at climbing walls or at venues with permanent or mobile climbing towers.

This award is all about supervising safe climbing and abseiling sessions on single pitch crags. The Single Pitch Award has been designed to maintain high standards of supervision to ensure safe sessions in this increasingly popular sport.

Entry requirementsYou should ideally have studied at GCSE Level or at Entry Level 3 to ensure you have the best chance of successfully completing the programme. However, if you don’t have the qualifications, apply and your suitability will be assessed at interview.

The prerequisites for registration are as follows:• You must be at least 17/18 years old • You should have at least 12 months of rock

climbing experience • You should have an interest in supervising

novice climbing groups • You should have at least a year’s worth

of experience of hill walking • You should have an interest in leading

groups in the hills• You should have at least 6 months

of experience of using a variety of climbing walls

• You should have an interest in climbing and in supervising groups on climbing walls
