Description: A offset folding brochure
Date: 3/28/2015
Program(s)Tools: Illustrator and InDesign
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objectives: To create a offset brochure applying a cut out image, test wrap and paragraph styles in InDesign.
Process: The whole process started out as some rough drafts on a regular paper. From there I created a layout page of it on the InDesign as well as logo on Illustrator. I then wrote out the text that I would be using for my brochure. The next step of the process was to placement of the images as well as the text in the layout I had designed. The next few steps were to make sure I had some nice clean images I could use, as well as some that had been cut out on Photoshop. The next few steps were alignment of the images as well as text. This is were I spent most of the time making sure the fold and the placement of the images were right. The last step of the process was printing a few times to make sure all of it was in alignment with my design.

POSTER
Description: A 8X12 POSTER
Date: 4/04/2015
Program(s)Tools: InDesign
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objectives: To create a poster using layering and cutouts of a image mimicking the artist designs.
Process: The whole process started out as a sketch. My objective was to design a poster that would look like part of the artist designs. I had to change the typography using InDesign because this artist does not follow the grid lines. I had to create outlines of the font and move them around so they would not be all lined up. I then made a cutout of the hand from one of his posters and layered it in the middle of the design. I then added some of his posters using the large, medium and large concept from the poster of Anatomy of a Murder up to Exodus and last the hand cutout. As a final piece I added some colored boxes and did not line them up to make it look more like the artist rendition of his art. The only piece that is lined up to the poster is the SFMOMA logo at the bottom right.
PHOTODESIGN
Description: Demonstrate photography and image editing skills using Photoshop.
Date: 02/17/2015
Program(s)Tools: Photoshop
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objectives: To capture a digital photograph and edit in Photoshop using image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.
Process: I designed some sketches with a layout of my project and tried to replicate it on Photoshop. I took pictures with my Galaxy S4 and used Photoshop to edit. I was able to improve the final image applying what I had learned from the videos posted on this weeks folder. I then made use of Sister Esplin color wheel to create a Triadic project to follow the assignments requirements.
MONTAGE
Description: Demonstrate blending skills using two images and typography.
Date: 02/14/2015
Program(s)Tools: Photoshop
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objectives: To blend images smoothly using masks and filters as well as applying good typography.
Process: This whole assignment was done using Photoshop. First part of this assignment was to select images to use. Next I placed them on Photoshop and cropped and placed the images. Next I added a layers to blend them in to each other. The next step was placement and adding black brush strokes with low opacity behind the writing so that it could be legible.
LOGOS
Description: To create a three different logos for a fictional or real company. Each logo had to be unique with different color schemes.
Date: 02/21/2015
Program(s)Tools: Illustrator
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objective: To demonstrate my ability to design a logo.
Process: I started by sketching different ideas using peaks and audio equipment as inspiration. I tried using the pen tool on Adobe Illustrator with not much luck, because my sketches were to rough to pen over. So the next step was to create digital sketches resembling my hand drawings and applying different color schemes. My first logo was drawn to resemble speakers and sound waves. My second Logo has the colors and peaks of old digital equalizers. My last logo was the most basic design with peaks as a focal point in the design.

Description: A flier designed to promote a graduate leadership conference.
Date: 01/24/2015
Program(s)Tools: InDesign
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objective: Demonstrate my ability to create a flier using good designing skills.
Process: This whole process started as a idea in my mind then was latter transformed into a sketch. I latter then brainstormed a few different ideas, and went as far as creating more than four sketches than those that were required for the first part of this assignment. As I, continued one of my sketches was latter transformed in the InDesign program. While there was much trial an error in this part of the design, I also had a learning curve in the use of a new program. While the sketching was the easy part, the use of InDesign was much more challenging than I had originally anticipated. I am happy to say that the result came out much better than I originally had thought out in my mind.

Description: A public cupcake bake-off invitation to a raise funds for the Cub Scouts.
Date: 1/31/2015
Program(s)Tools: Microsoft Word
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objective: Demonstrate my ability to create a event ad using only Microsoft Word.
Process: As my other project, this whole process started as an idea in my mind. The first step of this process was a group of sketches slightly different from the other with different element of design. The next step to this process was a way to arrange my sketches into a draft in Word. This step took quite some time to arrange since many tools that I used for the past were not available. Again, it took trial and error and adjustments with the tools available in Word. Some of the alignments had to be done with lines and visual cues. As before, sketching was the easy part the arrangement in word was much more difficult. I used a little of each of the principles spend a major time in alignment, value and elimination of design section to my event flyer.

Description: Design a webpage using HTML and CSS to show a potential employer my skill-set as a designer.
Date: 3/14/2015
Program(s)Tools: Notepad++
Course/Instructor: Comm 130 Section 12 Caryn Esplin
Objective: Demonstrate my ability to create a web page using Notepad++ as well as good design principles.
Process: The first step to my process was the resizing of the logo to fit the requirements for this assignment. Next step was to create a HTML file and modify the CSS template. I tried using the same color scheme on my website that was in my logo design. I had a hard time taking a screen shot of my design because of the size of my wide screens. I then placed the image in Photoshop and made sure the image fit the .5 inch margins. After that was all set and done then I zip up my file and posted it.
