Beechcraft 1954 Bonanza N3315C Quick
Reference Guide rev2
-DOES NOT REPLACE AIRCRAFT OFFICIAL POH-
1. PREFLIGHT CHECK:
In addition to POH checks, make sure to:
-Check fuel level visually in all fuel tanks (Screw driver to open Wing Mains is in
glovebox, Tip Tanks Cap opening tool is in glovebox).
NOTE1: AUX tank, unless is full all the way there is no way to visually check fuel
level.
-Sump Fuel from all tanks, there are a total of 6 drains as follows:
2 Mains (underwing), 1 for Fuel Selector valve (under belly, left wing root...open
cover and drain operating the small butter,y valve), 2 Tip Tanks (under tip tanks), 1
for Aux Tank (under belly little forward of Aux Tank, di-cult to see.
-Oil level, CHECK AFTER EACH FLIGHT and RECORD LEVEL ON DISPATCH so
next people know how much oil there was in aircraft (normal level “by the book”
between 9 and 10 Qts, suggested between 8.5 and 9.5).
You should still check oil with COLD engine however it could show lower levels
than actual as it has a dry sump system.
The longer the aircraft sits the lower level you will see checking oil with dip stick.
NEVER ADD OIL BASED ON DIP STICK LEVEL WITH COLD ENGINE, as it will
almost certainly end up getting over-serviced.
In case of any doubts, run engine for 5-10 minutes, shut down and check oil level.

2. IN THE COCKPIT:
-Master Switch / Mags Switch etc: If electric power is needed prior to Start, turn
on KEY SWITCH on BATT position (Brst click), then turn on Master Switch and
Alternator Switch (both inside Circuit Breaker panel underneath glovebox).
ALWAYS HAVE AVIONICS MASTER OFF:
-Prior to switch Master ON or OFF (and anytime the Mag Key Switch is
operated through any positions while engine not running)
-Prior to starting and shutting down engine
-USE ELECTRIC ACCESSORIES TO THE MINIMUM BEFORE ENGINE START
TO PRESERVE BATTERY POWER FOR START.
-DO NOT OPERATE LANDING LIGHTS (right or left) unless ENGINE IS
RUNNING, they are extremely powerful and will deplete the battery very
quickly.
-Taxi Light is LED, no limitations.
-Cockpit Door:
The door has 2 locks, one in the standard position on the vertical post of the door
(opposite to hinges) and an additional lock on top of the door.
They are both mechanically connected to the door locking-handle.
If door is not properly closed, it WILL open upon take o? and it will NOT be
possible to close it in @ight.

Pag. 3
If this happens, hold the door arm rest to avoid slamming, execute a normal
downwind and land.
Close door properly after taxiing o? the runway
NEVER HOLD ON DOOR TO ENTER OR EXIT THE COCKPIT (Hinges WILL
BREAK)
ALWAYS LEAVE DOOR CLOSED (ie during walkaround) IF WINDY
CONDITIONS EXIST
Before ,ight the door MUST BE CLOSED AND LOCKED.
LOCKING PROCEDURE:
NEVER SLAM THE DOOR SHUT
With the right hand pull gently the door arm-rest to get the door in closed position,
then VISUALLY CHECK the vertical post and the top of the door for correct
alignment with aircraft fuselage (no space between door and aircraft fuselage).
Then keeping visual on the TOP of the door, (while keeping pulling door arm-
rest with right hand), WITH LEFT HAND turn DOOR HANDLE Counter Clockwise
(located forward of door) until a deBned CLICK is heard while the TOP door
visually is conBrmed to close in a TIGHTER position (meaning TOP LOCK has
LOCKED DOOR).
In other words, while turning Door handle Clockwise until a Click is heard, there
must be a clear movement of TOP of door to a tighter (more closed) position.
That is conBrmation of door being properly locked.

Pag. 5
NOTE 2:
Anytime the LEFT MAIN TANK is full, the LEFT MAIN TANK must be selected
FIRST.
This is because there is a return line from the engine which sends back to Left
main approx 3 Gal per Hour with engine running (whatever tank is selected).
If this procedure is not followed the left tank would OVERFILL and fuel will be
dumped overboard.
-RIGHT AND LEFT MAINS FULL:
With the mains full, Brst select the LEFT (see NOTE 2 above).
When the left main reaches approx half tank(to one quarter), you can switch to
RIGHT main.
While using Right Main keep monitoring both Main levels (Right main will slightly
increase while using Left Main (for the return line))
Take o?s and landings should be executed with the fullest of the 2 mains
selected.
No TAKE OFFS should be executed with either MAINS at less than 10 GAL
(approx half way on fuel indicator), as per POH.
7000 Challenger Ave. Titusville, FL, 32780 Phone: 321-269-6910 Web: www.spaceportaviation.com
email: '[email protected]
Pag. 6
-AUX TANK:
The AUX TANK is a 10 Gal tank underneath the back seat.
The AUX TANK can be used ONLY in CRUISE (no patterns, climbs or
descends).
Select AUX TANK once in Cruise after LEFT MAIN has somewhere between Half
and ¼ full (see NOTE 2 above).
Normally run AUX TANK until DRY (engine roughness), then select either MAINS.
-TIP TANKS:
The tip tanks contain 15 Gal each.
Tip Tank fuel lever indicators are underneath Throttle console, as well as Tip
Transfer Fuel Pump Switches.
The transfer of fuel from the Tip Tanks can only be obtained as follows:
-FROM LEFT TIP TO LEFT MAIN
-FROM RIGHT TIP TO RIGHT MAIN
7000 Challenger Ave. Titusville, FL, 32780 Phone: 321-269-6910 Web: www.spaceportaviation.com
email: '[email protected]
Pag. 7
Fuel Transfer is done by electric pump actuated by 2 switches (left and right) see
below:
Tip Transfer Pump can be actuated ANYTIME the associated MAIN is LESS
than full.
As a technique, it is suggested to transfer fuel from TIPS to MAINS when the
level of the respective Main is HALF or lower….to prevent fuel being pushed
overboard.
When Tip Transfer is on (from either Tip to the respective Main) keep
monitoring Main levels to make sure Main is not overDlled.
Keep Tip Transfer ON, to maintain Main level between Half and ¾ max.

-FUEL PLANNING:
For Normal ,ying (1 to 1.5 hrs approx) it is suggested to use refuel MAIN TANKS
only and using only them.
Because of the complexity of fuel management, it is suggested to ALWAYS topoH
MAINS before taking oH for any ,ight.
No TAKE OFFS should be executed with either MAINS at less than 10 GAL
(approx half way on fuel indicator), as per POH.
For ,ights between 1.5 to 3-4 hrs, plan to top oH MAINS and whatever required
fuel in TIPS.
If longer ,ights are planned it is suggested to Bll AUX TANK as well, and select
AUX TANK once level oH for the cruise and run it DRY until selecting other tanks.
If AUX TANK is planned to be run DRY, do so ONLY at cruise altitude and never
below 3-4,000 feet, to allow plenty of time in case Wobble Pump is required to
prime the system again once a Main is selected.
If descent or landing is planned and AUX tank is not dry yet, select one of the
MAINS accordingly with the POH and the suggestions shown before.

MIXTURE RICH (FWD)
ENGINE COWLS OPEN
Mag switch BOTH
Master Switch and Alt Switch ON
Beacon On
Wobble Fuel Pump, actuate to achieve some fuel pressure (check indicator)
Primer Button push for 1-2 seconds (WHILE actuating Wobble pump)
Wobble pump stop actuating
Start Button PUSH suggested left hand, while right hand on Throttle
AS SOON ENGINE starts, looks for 1000 RPM approx and LEAN immediately or
engine might stall.
Anytime running engine on the ground, MIXTURE control must be pulled to LEAN.
Bonanza Aircraft run very RICH on the ground to the point engine might stall
specially if warm.
NOTE 3:
In order to lean mixture on the ground, MIXTURE CONTROL has to be pulled
somewhere around a couple of inches out….you will hear/feel engine running
smoother

5. TAXI CHECKS:
Taxi Light on (no limitations as it is LED)
If more light is needed use ONE Landing light in addition to Taxi Light, do not use
BOTH landing lights on the ground as it will deplete Battery even with engine
running (at low RPM settings).
6. BEFORE LINE UP CHECKS:
DOOR PROPERLY CLOSED
ENGINE 1600 RPM
PROP FULL FWD
MIXTURE FULL RICH (FWD)
ENGINE COWLS OPEN
MAG CHECK (R, BOTH, L, BOTH) 75 RPM drop, within 50 RPM of each other
PROP CHECK (pull control to decrease RPM), then back to FWD
(CARB HEAT can be checked however it will most likely not show any MAP
change on the ground)
Throttle back to IDLE or 1000 RPM approx (and MIXTURE LEAN if you expect any
waiting time before take oH).

8. AFTER TAKE OFF CHECKS:
POSITIVE RATE landing gear UP (check switch position, LDG light indicator and
visual indicator (on the cockpit ,oor) for UP indication
FLAPS as required
PROP 2,300 RPM (GREEN ARC) (2,300-2,650 limited to 1 minute only)
THROTTLE 26.5 Inches (GREEN ARC) (more than 26.5 Inches limited to 1
minute only)
8. CLIMB CHECKS:
Monitor CHT (and OIL temp) and increase KIAS (or level oH momentarily) if
temperatures are too high.
Monitor FUEL CONSUMPTION from each MAIN and act accordingly as per Fuel
management suggestions when needed.
It is suggested to LEAN MIXTURE during climb for best performance and
e-ciency, use EGT instrument, on far RIGHT of instrument panel, to run engine
50-100 deg F colder of peak (richer) (engine will run rough at PEAK).

Pag. 15
10. CRUISE CHECKS:
On Level oH, CLOSE COWL FLAPS
PROP accordingly to POH (1,900-2,300 RPM continuous)
THROTTLE accordingly to POH (26.5 Inches max continuous)
Monitor FUEL CONSUMPTION from each MAINS and act accordingly as per Fuel
management suggestions when needed.
LEAN MIXTURE for best performance and e-ciency, use EGT instrument, on far
RIGHT of instrument panel, to run engine 50-100 deg F colder of peak (richer)
(engine will run rough at PEAK).
NOTE 4:
Mixture control will have to be pulled almost 2 inches or more before seeing
ANY change in EGT and or Engine performances.
Once Mixture Control is pulled out a couple of inches or so, then ONLY little
adjustments will allow for big changes in EGT and Engine performances.
Use FINE adjustment at that point for proper LEANING (turning MIXTURE
KNOB rather than pulling and pushing it)
11. DESCEND CHECKS:
THROTTLE ADJUST to maintain proper speed (aircraft accelerate very quickly with
nose down attitudes
MIXTURE ENRICH (no need to full rich, from cruise setting turn 3 turns or so
richer)
COWL FLAPS usually are not needed to be opened for descent and landings.
-Keeping COWL FLAPS closed will prevent engine SUPERCOOLING, which
reduces engine life.

12. LANDING CHECKS:
Plan your pattern PLENTY IN ADVANCE, aircraft will be diJcult to slow down
for conDguration.
PROPER FUEL TANK SELECTED (fullest of the 2 mains)
MIXTURE FULL RICH (FWD)
FLAPS as required (FLAPS CAN BE LOWERED ONLY WITHIN WHITE ARC on
Anemometer-See speed imitations)
Landing gear DN (check switch position, LDG light indicator and visual indicator
(on the cockpit ,oor) for DOWN indication
PROP FULL FWD on Bnal
TAXI LIGHT ON
One Landing light ON (or 2 if needed at night)
TIP TRANSFER PUMPS OFF
After TOUCH DOWN and slowing down at proper speed, MIXTURE LEAN to
avoid engine stalling.
