Our Mission Statement
We, the Catholic Community of St. Pio, inspired by the Holy Spirit, celebrate the
Eucharist with hope, to share our faith, love, and the Good News of Jesus Christ
through outreach and fellowship.
February 26, 2017
8th Sunday in Ordinary Time
From the Pastor’s Desk
It has come to my attention that some parish-
ioners have recently questioned, objected to, and com-
plained about the orange cones placed by the ushers
marking NO PARKING areas on the road near the
front doors of church.
This is a local ordinance which restricts park-
ing in certain areas so as not to interfere with the access
of emergency vehicles such as fire and EMS trucks
approaching the front of the church.
This for the safety of all who need emergency
medical service including you or any loved ones pre-
sent here at Mass—or in the event that there is a fire.
The ushers have found through past experi-
ence that, if left unmarked, people can and WILL park
anywhere they please if there’s space! That’s why we
have decided to mark these spots accordingly as NO
PARKING areas.
Please do not park in the areas that have been
marked with orange cones. If you need more handi-
capped parking, it is at the side of the church.
Please do not take your frustrations out on the
ushers. They are following MY instructions!
If you have further questions, please see ME.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Greg

With many thanks
for your support!
I would like to express my appreciation
for all the generous donations to the St. Pio
Baby Closet. The Giving Tree requested items for babies in the
form of formula, diapers, wipes and clothing. Our shelves in
the Baby Closet are once again filled because of your generous
donations. We continue our baby outreach program to support
young families in need living in Macomb County.
I would also like to thank everyone who helped with our
Free Midday Meal Program, from those who donated money,
to personal care items, to snacks and food. Thank you the Par-
ish Council, Women’s League, Men’s Club and St. Vincent de
Paul who sponsored a meal. I’m very thankful to all those who
volunteered to help either in the kitchen, personal care, intake,
or bus tickets. The donations of food to the Free Midday Meal
Program were used to feed the 160 men and women who visit-
ed us at the end of January and beginning of February. They
were very grateful for the warm place to rest and enjoy a hot
meal.
You have partnered with us as we seek to be good disciples
of the Lord and for that I am very grateful.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know
About the Flea Market
St. Pio office staff will be under one roof
in the near future and renovations to cer-
tain parts of the building will be neces-
sary. After meeting with the Flea Market
Experts – Paul and Cheryl Haines it was
agreed upon that we will not have a Flea
Market this year. The construction is not
conducive to a safe and successful
Flea Market.
Look for the Flea Market to return and
according to Paul and Cheryl it will be
even bigger and better. Questions can be
directed to Paul and Cheryl.
Little Black Books for Lent will be available after at the
entrance of church. Donation of $2.00 is suggested

Thinking About
Joining the
Catholic Church?
Every year in the Archdiocese of Detroit, hundreds of people join the Catholic Church. Since becoming Catholic requires a commitment to God, the Church and a worshipping community, the per-son must enter a process of prepa-ration and discernment. This pro-cess is called the RCIA, an acronym for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
In the RCIA a person takes a journey with the RCIA Team to learn about and come closer to God. Part of learning about God means that you need to learn about God’s Church. In the RCIA we learn about how the Church was formed, and many of the particulars that are unique to Catholicism.
While learning about Catholicism is essential to the RCIA, it is only part of the process. The most im-portant part of the RCIA is discover-ing, developing, and nurturing your relationship with God. If you feel in your heart that God is calling you, the parish community of St. Pio of Pietrelcina welcomes you!
The RCIA process is open to people who are not baptized, baptized in another Christian faith, or baptized a Catholic but who have never received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
several times on what a great group of
young people we have! All were a
delight to be with and share in this faith
experience. I can't wait to see where they
will use their gifts and talents next and I
hope they remember that in difficult
times "Give it All to God"!
Please note: There will be NO High
School Ministry Meeting on Tuesday,
March 7. Students instead should meet
on Thursday, March 2 from 4:30-6:00
p.m. to prepare for the "Living Stations
of the Cross". Parts and auditions will
take place at this meeting. All Middle
and High School Ministry Students are
invited to join us in this special
presentation, which takes place on
Good Friday. We will practice
throughout Lent and a schedule of
meeting times will be available at our
first meeting. We hope you will use
this as a way to share your gifts and
talents with the whole congregation and
evangelize about Jesus' journey to the
Cross!
