PRE-VIEWING ACTIVITIES

* Show Scene 45 again, pausing the DVD after the Queen asks, "¿Adónde vas?" Ask students to repeat. Pause it again after Sylvia says, "Voy a la piscina a nadar. Adiós" Ask students to repeat after Sylvia. Further on in Scene 45 the King asks, "¿Adónde vas?" Pause to let students repeat. Pause again after Sylvia answers, "Voy a jugar al tenis. Adiós."

* Draw two faces on the board, one with a smile, one with a frown. Point to the smiling face and say, "Estoy bien." (Swing the tennis racket.) "Voy a jugar al tenis." Again say "Estoy bien." Pick up the swimming gear and say, "Voy a la piscina." Point to the frowning face and say dolefully, "No estoy bien. Tengo dolor de cabeza" Pretend to take some medicine and say, "Ah, estoy mejor."

VIEWING ACTIVITIES* Show the video. Ask students to watch carefully so they can explain why the King and Queen are confused. (Answer: They are talking to Sylvia replicas.)

POST-VIEWING ACTIVITIES

* Write the words "Voy a…" on the board. Place the activity pictures on the board and practice these sentences: "Voy a jugar al tenis. Voy a la piscina."

* Role-play the scene. One student is the King , and the two others are the Replicas.

El Rey: "Hola, Sylvia . ¿Adónde vas?" Réplica 1: "Hola, Papá . Voy a la piscina. Adiós" El Rey: "Hola, Sylvia . ¿Adónde vas?" Replica 2: "Hola, Papá. Voy a jugar al tenis. Adiós"* Any number of short skits or dialogues can be performed based on Lesson 27 and Lesson 28. Put students in groups of two or three to practice, then perform for the class. Here are some examples:

* Record how the class is feeling, using the two faces on the board. Ask the question, "¿Cómo estás?" of each student. Students may answer either, "Estoy bien" or "No estoy bien." Keep track by putting a mark under the appropriate face. Count up the marks when finished and announce results in Spanish.Ask all of those who said "No estoy bien" to think of a reaon why they responded in that way. (Answers could be, "Tengo dolor de estómago / cabeza." ), etc.

* "Echo Chant." This question / answer chant about feelings can be spoken, or you could make up a simple tune. Rhythym can be sustained by slapping knees and clapping hands. Students echo the teacher. (slap, clap, slap, clap) Teacher: "Hola." Students: "Hola." Teacher: "¿Cómo estás?" Students: "¿Cómo estás?" Teacher: "Muy bien." Students: "Muy bien." Teacher: "Gracias." Students: " Gracias."

(Repeat from the top, this time changing fine to "muy bien" and "no muy bien." The third time through, change to "así, así" (so-so)
