MASS INTENTIONS LENT Knowing the Holy Bible How is your bible reading going? By reading the bible we will come to know God and the plan that He has for all of us. Let us make the Bible part of our daily prayer. Reading these inspired words, we will grow deeper in our relationship with God and come to understand our place in the community. How to read the Bible? Take a chapter and start with a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind and to lead you to the Word of God. After you finish your reading make another prayer giving thanks to the Fa-ther so that His Word will bear fruit in your live. Last week I shared with you the first five Books of the Holy Bible the Pentateuch or To-rah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. These books speak about the creation of the world, the laws of God that were given to his people through Moses, the first census and the invitation to the chosen people to remain faithful to God. Continuing with the group of books of the Holy Scripture this weekend we have the Historical Books: Joshua, Judges, Samuel 1-2, Kings 1-2, Chronicles 1-2, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Ju-dith, Esther, Maccabees 1-2. The historical books in the Old Testament deal with the for-mation of the people of Israel, the exile to Bab-ylon and the return to Jerusalem. These books speak about the walls that fell in Jericho, the reign of King David. It shows us the prophet Elijah, and some kings. The great lesson, or the main lesson is that these books shows us that God keeps his promises and expects obedience and fidelity from his people. With the Penta-teuch and Historical Books, we have the first 20 Books of the Old Testament. Fr. Josue Vargas Lara

Stations of the Cross this Lent Join us every Friday after 8am mass for Stations of the Cross in English and Italian. Also, we will pray the Stations this Friday following 7:00pm mass during the Exposition of the blessed sacrament.

ShareLife Living the Gospel by providing for homeless youth. On any given night, 6,000 people across Canada between 16 and 24 have nowhere to call home. This represents 20 per cent of the total homeless popu-lation. The ShareLife-supported Rights of Pas-sage program at Covenant House has been active in making a positive difference in the lives of homeless youth on the streets of Toronto. The program matches adolescents with mentors, who help them build life skills. By supporting Share-Life, you’re helping at-risk youth prepare for life on their own. March 18 is ShareLife Sunday. Please give generously.

Second Collection Next weekend March 12th and 13th we will have a second collection for the flowers that will decorate the altar during the Easter time. Thank you for your generosity.

Mass Intentions We ask the community to kindly request your mass intentions ahead of time. Mass intentions to be announced on weekend masses and days of the following week must be requested by Wednesday of each week. We cannot change dates for mass intentions previously requested. Thank you for your understanding and your co-operation.

Planning to be a Catholic School Teacher?

It is critical for you to know that to be hired to teach in any Catholic School Board in Ontario as part of your applica-tion for employment you must provide a letter of recommendation from your Pas-tor. It is highly recommended to contact the pastor a year in advance, especially in light of the fact that all universities make this matter known to every student at the beginning of the year. Please plan to have a conversation with your pastor early in the process (not the week before you are submitting your application) and you will avoid disappointment and stress at the time when applications are to be submit-ted. The following are required at St. Jude’s: Be (yourself, not your parents or grand-

parents) a registered member of the par-ish using offertory envelopes (at least 1 year before the application).

Be in the parish for participation in Sunday/Saturday mass for a minimum of 12 months prior to approaching the pastor.

Make your request 3 months in ad-vance. Applicant must be the one mak-ing the requests.

No request by a relative or a parent will be accepted .

The pastor has to be able to recommend you, and that is only possible if he knows you at the basic level of regular mass at-tendance. Personal knowledge of the can-didate’s faith practice is what the pastor needs to recommend, not your relatives, but yourself, as this is a personal recom-mendation not a family one.
