Bienvenue au FIAF, the place to learn French in NYC!

Welcome to the 2012–2013 school year at FIAF where you can truly immerse yourself in French culture and language either at our New York headquarters or at our expanding satellite in Montclair, NJ. When you choose to take a class at FIAF, you join over 6,000 people of all ages who learn French at FIAF each year. Together, they form a large and diverse network of Students and friends, all passionate about the French language and French cultures.

At FIAF, we offer small classes with an average of just nine Students to optimize your learning experience and foster an individualized environment. FIAF’s high-tech classrooms are equipped with the newest technologies, including SmartBoards™ (interactive white boards). Our teachers use the latest in digital textbooks and other innovative teaching tools that enhance language-learning and help develop excellent communication skills.

FIAF’s teachers are highly trained experts in their fields and are native French speakers who come from all over the French speaking world. All are certified to teach French as a foreign language, and attend professional training classes and workshops throughout the year.

This year, in addition to our robust course offerings, we are thrilled to launch the FIAF Preschool, providing a comprehensive program for children ages 3 and 4 that combines the best of French and American teaching methods within a rich multicultural environment. The FIAF Preschool encourages young Students to become independent, curious, and open-minded, and prepares them for future placement in a bilingual or international school.

FIAF is proud to announce the opening of a French immersion preschool for children ages 3 and 4.

The FIAF Preschool offers a comprehensive program that combines the best of French and American teaching methods within a rich multicultural environment. Our Preschool is open both to French-speaking and non-French-speaking children. All instruction is in French to give children a strong base in the French language.

The FIAF Preschool prepares Students for future placement in a bilingual or international school. Children enrolled in the Preschool enjoy a playful, vibrant atmosphere and environment in newly renovated classrooms designed to encourage children’s independence.

Applications for both 3-year-old and4-year-old classes for 2013–2014 will be available on September 4, 2012.

Curriculum OverviewFIAF’s highly-trained teachers focus on developing the following areas in the classroom: Socialization and Interpersonal Skills Children will learn to work in a group setting and develop social skills, including working on respect, patience, and independence. Language Arts Children will learn to express themselves in groups, verbalize their feelings, ask questions, and use progressively more complex sentences. They will also learn about books and various alphabets, build their vocabulary, and take their first steps toward writing.

Mathematics & SciencesChildren will learn numbers, counting, matching, classification, measurement, and geometry through age-appropriate materials and activities. Motor Skills Children will enjoy daily physical activities—free play or with specific instruction—that improve balance and spatial awareness. Music and dance activities will help children develop physical awareness and expression.

Refined motor skills taught with French methods will prepare the children for writing.

Using illustrated children’s books, teachers present the language and culture through tailored activities all in French. Policies

Payment of all fees must be made in full at the time of registration by check, money order, or credit card.

Withdrawal from courses must be received in writing, in person, or by email at [email protected] (New York) or at [email protected] (New Jersey). Withdrawal notices are required at least 3 business days prior to the first day of class for a refund minus an $85 processing fee. After the start of the course, withdrawals will be accepted only before the third class of the term. A prorated credit on your FIAF account (calculated from the date of written notification) will be issued towards future tuition (less $85 processing fee). This non-transferable and non-refundable credit is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. There are no credits or prorating of tuition if you withdraw after the first 2 weeks of the term. There is no prorating for late registrations.

Classes paid with class credit cannot be refunded or re-credited. No refunds for workshops. Workshop withdrawals are accepted up to 3 business days before the day of the workshop for a credit of 50% of the tuition. FIAF reserves the right to cancel classes and workshops, and to change teachers during sessions if necessary without advanced notice.

Transfers from one course to another within the same session or to private lessons are allowed only within the first 2 weeks of the session.

Transfers are not allowed for certifications either from one certification to another or from one session to another.

Use of cell phones is not allowed in classrooms. Any student using his/her phone will be asked to leave the class. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the classrooms.
