Parts and Functions of a Cell

By Porshay LeDuff

and

Brenda Mora

Nucleus• Is responsible for the

reproduction and growth of the cell.

• It contains a nucleolus, and chromatin.

• It is bound together by a nuclear membrane which contains nuclear pores.

Nucleolus• A small round body of protein in the

nucleus.

• Makes ribosome's for protein synthesis

Chromatin

• Stainable substance of a cell nucleus consisting of DNA and RNA

• Repairs the cell

Nuclear membrane /nuclear pores

• Nuclear membrane-insures that interior of the nucleus is isolated from the cells cytoplasm

• Nuclear pores- how information travels in and out of the cell

cytoplasm

• Clear liquid that is composed of cytosol

• Supportive framework and works with membranes and organelles from colliding

Endoplasmic reticulum

• Made up of folded membrane

• Provided a tubular transport system inside the cell

Rough & Smooth E.R.

• Rough ER contains ribosome's

• Functions as a syntheses and transport of proteins

• Smooth ER is smooth because it does not contain ribosome's

• It’s a synthesis of lipids

Mitochondria

• The energy source of the cell

• Contains cristae need for aerobic respiration

Golgi Apparatus

• Composed of flattened sacs

• Packages the cells products to make transport easier

Lysosomes

• Contains powerful enzymes to break up old cell components and bacteria

• Known as “Garbage Disposal” of the cell

Vacuoles

• Part of the cell membrane liquid

• Help liquids and solids move in and out of cell
