Paslode Cordless Finish NailerOperating Manual
This manual is intended to acquaint you with the PaslodeCordless Finish nailer. Unlike other power fastening tools,the Cordless Finish nailer is powered by an internalcombustion linear motor. In simpler terms, your CordlessFinish nailer is powered by a motor similar to the one thatpowers an automobile. The Cordless Finish nailer ignites afuel and air mixture to produce the energy to drive the motor,which in turn drives the fastener. As you will see, theCordless Finish nailer is totally self-contained. It carries itsown fuel supply and battery, along with a supply of fasteners.
For ease of use, this manual is divided into sections (seeContents). Each section of the manual is written with you,the tool operator, in mind. We have left out all of the technicalterms so that you can readily understand how to get themaximum performance from your Cordless Finish nailer,and how to avoid damaging the tool or injuring yourself. But,to accomplish this, we need you to do two things:
1. READ THE MANUAL FROM COVER TO COVER BEFORE USING THE TOOL.
2. FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE MANUAL.
The Cordless Finish nailer should be handled like otherpower fastening tools that you use. Like most tools, whenused improperly it could result in injury. If you are going toallow others to use the Cordless Finish nailer, it is yourresponsibility to make sure that they also read and complywith the instructions in this manual before attempting tooperate the tool.

Paslode Cordless Warranty and Limitations
Paslode warranty that new Cordless power fastening tools, partsand accessories will be free from defects in material andworkmanship for the period shown below, after the date ofdelivery to the original user.
ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
A one-year warranty will apply to all parts, except those listedbelow as normal wearing parts, or parts which are specificallycovered by an extended warranty.
FIVE-YEAR EXTENDED LIMITED WARRANTY
A five-year warranty will apply to all molded nylon parts:• Motor Housing, Cap and Grille• Handle Halves and Actuator• Trigger
90-DAY LIMITED WARRANTY
A 90-day warranty applies to the following parts, which areconsidered normal wear parts:

WARRANTY STATEMENT
Paslode's sole liability hereunder will be to replace any part or accessorywhich proves to be defective within the specific time period. Any replacementpart or accessory provided in accordance with this warranty will carry awarranty for the balance of the period of warranty applicable to the part itreplaces. This warranty does not apply to part replacement required dueto normal wear.
This warranty is void on any tool which has been subjected to misuse,abuse, accidental or intentional damage, use with fasteners, fuel, batteries,or battery chargers not meeting Paslode specification, size, or quantity,improperly maintained, repaired with other than genuine Paslodereplacement parts, damaged in transit or handling, or which, in Paslode'sopinion, has been altered or repaired in a way that affects or detracts fromthe performance of the tool.
PASLODE MAKES NO WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED,RELATING TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS, OR OTHERWISE,EXCEPT AS STATED ABOVE, and Paslode's liability AS STATED ABOVEAND AS ASSUMED ABOVE is in lieu of all other warranties arising out of,or in connection with, the use and performance of the tool, except to theextent other wise provided by applicable law. Description
The Paslode Cordless Finish nailer is a self-contained, fullyportable nailer that uses liquid hydrocarbon fuel to power aunique linear drive internal combustion motor.
In order for you to fully understand the information containedin this manual, you need a basic understanding of thePaslode Cordless Finish nailer. As you can see in theillustration below, the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer ismade up of three separable assemblies: handle ,motor andmagazine.
As you examine the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer, becomefamiliar with the three major assemblies and the variouscomponents located in each of them.
The Handle Assembly contains the fuel cell, the batteryindicator light, and the trigger.
The Motor Assembly contains the cover and filter, themotor housing, the nose, and the work contacting element.
The Rail Assembly contains the components to load andcontrol the specfic fastener for the Cordless Finish nailer.

7. NEVER REMOVE OR DISABLE THE WORKCONTACTING ELEMENT.
This device helps reduce the possibility of accidentalfastener discharge by preventing the tool from operatinguntil it is completely against the work surface.
NEVER operate the tool if the work contacting elementis not working properly.
8. ALWAYS POINT THE TOOL AWAY FROMYOURSELF AND OTHERS WHEN CLEARING JAMSOR REMOVING FASTENERS.
Pull the follower slightly back and push the releaselever. Tip the tool nose up slightly and fasteners shouldslide out of the rear of the magazine. If fasteners arejammed, refer to the appropriate servicing section ofthis manual.
9. NEVER OPERATE THE CORDLESS FINISH NAILERIF PARTS ARE LOOSE, DAMAGED OR MISSING.
10. DO NOT DRIVE FASTENERS INTO KNOTS OR ONTOP OF OTHER FASTENERS.
A fastener may ricochet and cause serious injury.
11. OPERATE THE TOOL ONLY ON THE WORKPIECE.
1. Eye protection must meet the requirements of ANSIStandard Z87.1 and should have side shields forincreased protection.
2. NEVER ASSUME THE TOOL IS EMPTY.
Never point the tool at yourself or anyone else.
3. NEVER ENGAGE IN "HORSEPLAY" WITH THE TOOL.
The Paslode Cordless Finish nailer is not a toy – it is atool. Careless and improper use may result in a seriousaccident.
4. NEVER CARRY THE TOOL WITH YOUR FINGER ON,OR SQUEEZING, THE TRIGGER.
This practice may result in the accidental discharge ofa fastener.
5. NEVER OPERATE A MALFUNCTIONING TOOL.
Refer to the servicing or troubleshooting section of thismanual to correct the problem. If the problem cannot becorrected, stop using the tool and report it to yoursupervisor or Paslode® representative.
6. DO NOT LOAD FASTENERS WITH THE TRIGGERAND/OR WORK CONTACTING ELEMENT PRESSEDIN.
A fastener may be accidentally discharged.
WARNING
The Paslode CordlessFinish nailer should beoperated only when it is incontact with the worksurface. When fasteningthin materials such asplywood, be sure toposition the tool so thatthe fastener is driven intothe underlying piece.

12. NEVER DRIVE FASTENERS INTO AREAS WITHCONCEALED HAZARDS.
Always check the area behind the work surface forelectrical wiring, gas pipes, water pipes, sewer drains orother potential hazards.
13. ALWAYS MAINTAIN SECURE AND UNOBSTRUCTEDFOOTING WHEN ON LADDERS, PLATFORMS OROTHER HIGH LOCATIONS.
14. ALLOW ONLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL TO OPERATETHE PASLODE CORDLESS FINISH NAILER.
15. PROPERLY STORE FUEL CELL.
16. ALWAYS STORE THE TOOL WITH THE FUEL CELLAND BATTERY REMOVED.
Store the fuel cell in the case with the Paslode CordlessFinish nailer.
17. KEEP THE TOOL CLEAN.
A clean tool is less likely to jam or malfunction.
18. KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAR OF THE WORK AREASURFACE.
WARNING
Never over-reach, sincetool recoil may cause aloss of balance. Alwaysbe aware of edges anddrop-offs when nailing onrooftops and other highlocations. Keep them infull view.

Battery Disposal:The Impulse battery contains cadium and must be recycled or disposed of properly. It is illegal in some areas toplace a nickel-cadium battery into the trash or solid waste stream. You may contact your local recycling center forinformation on where to return the spent battery or call 1-800-822-8837 for information on Ni-Cd battery recycling inyour area.

Battery and Charging System
Charging Instructions1. Remove wall mount unit with the orange label from
the tool case and plug into a 120V AC outlet. Setorange charger on a stable surface and insert wallmount unit’s plug into plug receptacle on the back ofthe charger (see picture). A green light indicatespower is on and charger circuit is ready.
2. Remove the battery from tool or case and insertterminals down into charger. The red light will comeon indicating that the battery is charging and thegreen light will go out.
If battery is completely discharged, the red and green lights may flash back and forth for up to 20 minutes. This safety feature slowly recharges the battery until it is ready to accept the full charging current. If the red and green light continue to flash after 20 minutes, replace the battery.
3. After charging, the red light will go out and the greenlight will come on, indicating that the battery is fullycharged. The charger will keep the battery at fullcharge until it is removed.
4. Unplug the wall mount unit from the charger andremove the wall mount unit from the 120V AC outlet.
CHARGING TIMES:First charge 2 hoursDischarged Battery 5 minutes to 2 hours
CHARGING DON'TS:1. Do not charge battery outdoors or in temperatures
below 40°F (5°C).2. Do not allow metal objects to come in contact with
battery terminals.3. Do not puncture or attempt to open battery case or
cells.4. Do not store battery where it will be subjected to
temperatures above 120°F (49°C).5. Do not incinerate battery.6. Do not use a defective battery charger, one that

THE PASLODE CORDLESS CHARGING SYSTEM
NOTE
Battery and Charging SytemThe Cordless tool comes with a rechargeable batteryand its own charging system. This battery andcharging system combination is the only one that willwork with the Paslode Cordless tool. The first step inpreparing a new tool for operation is to fully chargethe battery. New batteries are shipped dischargedand must be charged prior to first use. Batterieswill take 5 minutes to 2 hours (time will be dependanton the amount of discharge within the battery) torecharge.

Inserting Battery
1. Load the battery, contacts first, into the Paslode CordlessFinish nailer.
2. Push battery fully forward into its locked position.
3. To remove battery, push down on locking tab and slidebattery out.
NOTE: If battery is left in tool for an extended period, thebattery will discharge completely and will require recharging.
IMPORTANT: Should your battery terminals becomecorroded and cause poor electrical contact, clean theterminals using a soft cloth.
Battery Indicator Light
The illustration is a close-up of the side of the PaslodeCordless Finish nailer handle. On the back side of thehandle is a small plastic lens. This is the battery indicatorlight.
When you insert a fully-charged battery into the tool, you willsee a blinking green light. If the indicator light blinks red,recharge the battery.

Keep the fuel cell awayfrom heat, sparks andopen flame.
Exposure to temperaturesabove 120°F (49°C) maycause the fuel cell to burst,releasing flammable gas.
WARNING
Sunlight can raise the inside temperature of anunventilated car or van to above 140°F (60°C).
Do not puncture or attempt to open the fuel cell; it isnon-refillable.
Do not incinerate, reclaim or recycle the fuel cell.
Do not smoke while installing or operating the meteringvalve.
Do not inhale the spray.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Store fuel cell(s) in well-ventilated areas only.
Fuel Cell There is a second container inside the fuel cell. The innercontainer holds the fuel. The space between the innercontainer and the outer cylinder is filled with a gas, called thepropellant, which is under pressure.
To eject the fuel, propellant pressure squeezes the innerfuel container, much as you squeeze a tube of toothpaste.This squeezing action ensures that all the fuel is used, andthat the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer can operate in anyposition.
Because of this container-within-a-container design, youmight hear the sound of fluid when shaking the fuel cell afterall the fuel has been used. This is the propellant, whichremains between the containers even after all the fuel hasbeen expelled.
If you expose the empty fuel cell to extreme temperatures,the propellant gas will expand and could cause the containerto burst, releasing flammable gases.
Metering Valve
The metering valve contains a fuel metering system to injectthe correct amount of fuel into the combustion chamber.
The yellow metering valve is the only valve that will operateproperly with the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer.

NOTE
1. Do not attempt to reuse the metering valve!Replace with fresh fuel cell/valve, and dispose ofspent cell/valve properly.
2. When replacing fuel cell also clean or replace theair filter for optimum tool operation.
NOTE: Altitude Restriction
Paslode Cordless tools are powered by a internalcombustion engine and are effected by altitude. Thetool may lose power or not cycle consistantly atelevations of 4000 feet or greater. When using the toolat elevations above 4000 feet it is recommended touse the blue high altitude fuel metering valve part#219247.

Attaching Metering Valve to Fuel Cell
To attach the metering valve to a fuel cell:
1. Press downward on the front side of the valve (stem side) until it seats.
2. Press downward on the rear side of the valve until it seats.
3. The valve is now completely seated onto the fuel can and can be inserted into the tool.

NOTE: Impulse fuel cell are marked with an expiration date on the bottom of the can.For maximum performance use fuel before expiration date.

Inserting Fuel Cell
Inserting the metering valve/fuel cell assembly into thePaslode Cordless Finish nailer is very simple. To begin,press up at the bottom of the actuator cover and pivotoutward to open. The cover will swing out of the way.
Next, with the metering valve stem pointed toward the frontof the tool, insert the metering valve/fuel cell assembly.
As you slide the metering valve/fuel cell assembly into theCordless Finish nailer, you will notice a yellow adapter atthe top of the cylinder pocket. As shown in the illustration,this adapter is designed to ensure that the metering valvestem is properly aligned with the small hole, or orifice, thatleads to the combustion chamber. Insert the metering valvestem into the orifice of the yellow -colored adapter.

Close the actuator cover to complete the loading of fuel inthe Paslode Cordless Finish nailer. Do this by swinging itup and over the fuel valve/cylinder assembly, and pushingdown until the actuator cover snaps into position.

Fasteners
The Cordless Finish nailer drives Paslode® F-16 Seriesfasteners which have been collated into strips. The use offasteners that do not meet Paslode standards couldcause tool damage and will void all warranty claims.
Loading Fasteners
The illustrations below show how to properly load fastenersinto the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer. To load:
1. Draw back the follower until it latches with the rail cover.
2. Insert one or two strips of Paslode finish nails betweenthe wear strips. Let them fall forward to the nail guide.
3. Locate the follower behind the finish nails. Applypressure to the rail cover so that the follower is released.The constant force spring will locate the follower behind thefinish nails and apply a constant pressure on them.
Dirt and debris may interfere with proper feeding of fasteners.Keep the fastener track clean.
Paslode Cordless Tools andOutdoor Weather
Use the Cordless Finish nailer outdoors, in clearweather, when the nailer, fuel cell, and battery arebetween 20°F (-7°C) and 120°F (49°C).
HOT WEATHER OPERATION
The Paslode Cordless Finish nailer requires coolingof the motor assembly to operate properly. The fannormally provides the necessary air flow to permitcontinuous operation. Whenever the Paslode CordlessFinish nailer is idle for extended periods, keep the fueland tool out of direct sunlight and in surroundingswhere temperatures will not exceed 120°F (49°C).After extended periods of continuous use, it may benecessary to cool the Impulse motor by setting toolaside for 10-15 minutes or until the tool operatesnormally. An overheated tool may not drive nailscompletely or may operate erratically.
COLD WEATHER OPERATION
Fuel cells at cold temperatures lose the requiredpropellant force. Bring the tool, battery, and fuel cellabove minimum operating temperature without directexposure to flame, and check the battery.

CAUTION
The Paslode Cordless Finish nailer should not beused in the rain or where excessive moisture ispresent. The use of the Impulse Finish nailer underthese conditions may result in damage to toolcomponents and cause tool to malfunction
This tool must be operated in a well ventilatedenvironment, because the tool exhausts carbonmonoxide similar to a chainsaw or lawn mower.Exposure to carbon monoxide may cause dizziness,nausea or unconsciousness.
CAUTION

Impulse ® Finish Nailer Operation
Depth of Drive Adjustment
Remove the battery before adjusting the depth of drive.
The depth of drive adjustment is made by turning theadjustment knob on the work contacting element.
Adjust the work contacting element to get the nail headdepth to meet job requirements.
PRESS WORK –CONTACTINGELEMENTAGAINST THEWORK SURFACE.
Fan motor starts,fuel is injected intocombustionchamber andmixed with air bythe fan.
SQUEEZETRIGGERSpark plug sparksand fuel/air mixtureignites.Combustionpowers pistonassembly drivingfastener.

DANGER
The work contacting element and nose will become hotafter prolonged or rapid use. If it becomes necessary toadjust the work contacting element, avoid touching withbare hands.
NOTE
The nailer will "blank fire" or cycle even if themagazine is empty of nails. Blank firing will createdriver blade marks on the workpiece, and excessiveimpact on the bumper which may result in prematurefailure of the bumper.Therefore, load the PaslodeCordless Finish Nailer when required and only cycleit when nails are in place.

Applications
The Paslode Cordless Finish nailer is suited for a variety of applications. Some of these are securing trim to door andwindow casings; attaching baseboards where walls meet floors; attaching moldings where walls meet ceilings;securing paneling; securing chair rails, picture molding and other decorative trim.
The Paslode Cordless Finish nailer drives Paslode F-16 Series nails. They are made from 16-gauge galvanized wire andare entirely coated witrh Pas-Kote for improving holding power. Fasteners are collated into strips of 50 for easy loading.

Attempts to go beyond these procedures could result inserious personal injury or damage to the Paslode CordlessFinish nailer and voiding the warranty.
There are certain problems you may encounter when youare using the Cordless Finish nailer that you will be able tocorrect on the work site. The following field service proceduresare the only service procedures you should attempt. Anythingelse that may appear wrong with the Cordless Finish nailershould only be diagnosed and repaired by a fully trainedservice technician. If you have any reason to believe thatyour problem is beyond the service procedures in thismanual, contact your Paslode® representative immediately.
Fuel Cell Check
If the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer's fan operates and theindicator light is green, but the tool will not cycle or does notdrive fasteners completely, check the fuel cell. With the fuelcell out of the tool, check to see if the cell still contains fueland that the metering valve is working. To determine if thereis any fuel left in the fuel cell, hold in the upright position andsimply place the metering stem against a solid object, andgently push about three or four times. A small amount of fuelshould be released each time.
DANGER
Never perform this test near an open flame or sparks,while smoking, or where the fuel may get into your eyes.
If fuel is not released with each operating of the meteringvalve, this indicates that there is no more fuel left in thecylinder and it must be replaced. Dispose of the empty fuelcell properly.
Clearing a Jam
A typical problem you may encounter is having a jammedfastener. Because of the unique design of the CordlessFinish Nailer, clearing a jammed fastener is easy:1. Remove the battery.2. Pull follower back until it latches with rail cover.3. Push latch, releasing front guide. Pivot front guide
forward.4. Clear jam, and push driver blade back up to its normal
position.5. Close front guide and latch it. Check that work contacting
element is free.6. Release follower.Battery Check
Periodically check on the battery indicator light - the lightin the handle of the Paslode Cordless Finish nailer. Whenencountering a problem, the first step should always be tomake sure the battery has enough energy to operate thetool.
When the work contacting element is depressed on workpiece, the fan motor will turn on and the blinking greenindicator light will turn solid green. If the indicator light blinksred or glows red, recharge the battery.
DANGER
Never attempt any maintenance of the Paslode CordlessFinish nailer without first removing the fuel cell andbattery. Maintenance should be started only after thetool is completely inoperative.

Make certain magazine mounting screws are tight andmagazine is tight to nose. Attempting to fire tool with a loosemagazine will result in loss of nail control, damage to tool,or nail discharge toward operator.
Air Filter
Open the cover by pressing slightly above the adapter, andpivoting the cover open. The air filter simply lifts out.
Tap the filter GENTLY to remove any dust. Check and cleanthe air filter every two days. Soap and water restores thefilter to a "like new" condition.
End-of-Workday Routine
At the end of each workday, conduct an end-of-workdayroutine. These simple steps are based on maintaining thesafety and operational efficiency of thePaslode CordlessFinish nailer.
Before you leave the work site:
1. Remove battery and store in tool case. Always use thePaslode Cordless Finish nailer case for transportingand storing the tool.
2. Dispose of all empty fuel cells. Remember to dispose ofthese cells where they will not be found by children,crushed, punctured, or burned.
When you get home:
1. Place the battery in its charger if it needs charging asindicated by the red charge light on the handle.
2. Wipe your Impulse Finish nailer with a clean, soft cloth.
3. Remove and clean the filter every two days.
4. Check work contacting element to ensure it is operatingfreely.

Battery does not appear to accept chargewhen charger is plugged into battery, orbattery is plugged into the charger.
Charger gets hot, makes excessively loudnoise, or smokes during charging cycle.Charger cord or wall plug gets hot.
Inoperative indicator lights on charger, ordefective charger.
Battery damaged or cycle life exhausted.
Damaged charger.
Try battery in tool after a full charge cycle.If tools indicator light is green, charger notworking properly. Replace charger, ormonitor charging time to ensure battery hasadequate time for recharging. It is normalfor battery to feel warm after properlycharging.
Replace battery.
Discontinue use immediately and unplugfrom power source. Replace charger andtag or dispose of charger to preventaccidental re-use or connection to powersource.
Preparing Tool for Operation - Battery/Charger Problems

Clean battery terminals with soft cloth.

No spark is generated.
Remove and inspect lower probe. Clean thetrack. Repair or replace lower probe asrequired.
Replace fuel cell.
Remove cap and check spark lead, insert inspark plug and replace cover.
Clean tool cylinder head.
Return tool to authorized Paslode® dealer forservice.

specifications. Check Fasteners andApplications section for fastener types andsizes recommended for use in Cordlesstool.
Position follower behind fastener strip andengage strip.
Clear jam.
Check fuel cell.
Check spark plug wire.
Remove filter element and clean. Use soapand water to remove stubborn debris.
Clean tool.
Power/Exhaust Stage of Operation
