FROM THE PRESIDENT’S PEN “The World is HUGGED ~ by the Arms of Volunteers”
Hi Ladies,
Happy New Year! We have so many exciting things planned for year 2018!
We had quite a few members volunteer at The Cathedral Kitchen to serve lunch! Thanks to June Adair, Irene Hartman, Sandy Meltz, Sue Price, Lois Szwajkowski, Holly Zeitz and one of our new mem-bers Liza Gross. My daughter Vanessa Fiore also helped with the serving of lunches. It was a very humbling day, giving back to oth-ers in need and counting our blessings at the same time. (see page 8)
I received information from NJSFWC about the three choices of the next NJSFWC Special State Project for the next two years. I will present these at our meeting and we will vote as a club for our choice. This will be done at all NJSFWC clubs throughout the state of New Jer-sey. The majority will rule and be chosen.
Please save the date for our annual shopping event at Aenigma in Collingswood. The date is Thursday, March 15th from 6-9 pm. This is an Open House. Owner Lynda Kane donates 20% of the total sales back to the Marlton Woman’s Club! We, in turn, use this money to pur-chase jewelry or accessories from Aenigma to raffle off at our Spring Bingo in April. Lynda generously provides refreshments that evening, so no need to go home to eat. This is always such a fun shopping event! Please see attachment with complete details.

February is Black His-tory Month. Black His-tory Month began as “Negro History Week,” a label applied by his-torian Carter G. Wood-son in 1926. ... Wood-son chose that week
specifically because it covered the birthdays of Frederick Douglass (February 14) and Abraham Lincoln (February 12). Rosa Parks (1913-2005) was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement, whom the United States Con-gress called "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement". On Decem-ber 1, 1955 in Montgom-ery, Alabama, Parks re-fused to obey bus driv-er James F. Blake's order to give up her seat in the "colored section" to a white passenger, after the whites-only section was filled. Her act of defiance and the Montgomery bus boycott became symbols of the modern Civil Rights Movement.

Cookie Pack Tuesday, February 13
6:45 pm ~ 14 Gaylord Lane
Each year, Club members make and pack up cook-ies for nursing home residents and Wiley fami-lies. We usually have a Cookie Pack, around 5:00 pm followed by a board meeting. For the past few years, it has been held at Genni Fardella’s house (14 Gaylord Lane, Cambridge Park sec-tion). Many members have been unable to attend because the cookie pack is too early for those working. The Board has heard you and has decided to try some-thing different. The Board will have its meeting (and light dinner provided by Genni) FIRST at 5:00 pm then we will start the Cookie Pack after the meeting around 6:45 pm. Hopefully, this will allow more people to attend. Refreshments and adult beverages will be served for the Cookie Pack. We ask each member to make (or buy) 5-6 dozen cookies-no nuts please, and bring cookies with you to the Cookie Pack. Or, if you cannot make it, just call Genni (856-983-4624) to arrange to drop your cookies off. Please bring them in a disposa-ble container (aluminum tray), or clearly label your container to be returned to you.
This is a FUN night with a lot of chatting, munching
and wine-sipping along with cookie packing, so we
hope that this time change will accommodate
those people who had not previously been able to
make it. For information contact Genni Fardella at

Winter Preparedness The NJ Office of Emergency Management
(OEM) has a page dedicated to Winter Prepar-edness. Here is the link to the page- http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/winter.shtml
The NJ Department of Law and Public Safety
has much more if you check out this link: http://www.nj.gov/oag/hts/ice-and-snow.html#links
Remember to remove all ice and snow from your vehicle before driving, especially from the hood, windows and roof. It’s the law in New Jersey! Motorists who fail to do so face fines of $25-$75 for each offense, regardless
of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle. If flying ice or snow causes proper-ty damage or injury to others, motorists face fines of $200-$1,000 for each offense. There are approximately 500 fatalities in the United States per year due to icy road conditions.
Did you know … According to NJ Idling Regula-tions, all vehicles may idle for up to 3 minutes. When the vehicle has been stopped for 3 or more hours and ONLY if temperature is less than 25 degrees, vehicles may idle for up to 15 minutes.

Public Issues On Tuesday, January 16, 2018 Governor-
Elect Phil Murphy and Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver will be sworn in at the Trenton War Memorial. Included in the weekend’s Inaugural activities is a Statewide Day of Service in honor of the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.
We have all suffered through our recent
stretch of extremely cold temperatures over the last few weeks. Since we still have an-other two months of winter, here are some helpful tips provided by PSE&G to benefit you and your loved ones both in your home, on the road and in the community.
• Downed wires should always be consid-ered “live.” Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything it might be in contact with.
• To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning,
do not run gasoline-powered equip-ment, such as generators or snow blow-ers, in a garage or other enclosed space.

Domestic Violence
Prevention and Awareness In 2018, the Marlton Woman’s Club, as in the past
many years, will continue to focus efforts to prevent
and bring awareness to domestic violence by sup-
porting Providence House Domestic Violence Shelter
and Services of Burlington County. The organization
has recently moved its community services location
to Westampton. NJ. In addition to the 24-hour Hot-
line, domestic violence response teams and the
Emergency Safe House, this agency offers many
other services to the clients and families. These ser-
vices include- children’s counseling, community ed-
ucation, survivor support groups and individual
counseling and a Legal Advocacy Program. They also
provide Project Self-Sufficiency which assists clients
on the road to violence-free housing and living. The
MWC proudly continues our support of this vital and
deserving organization.
