People with dry skin or eczema have a deteriorated skin barrier that lets through too much moisture. The dry skin is sensitive and when it is exposed to irritants in the environment it begins to itch. The skin gets worse the more you scratch and it often becomes a vicious circle that results in the skin becoming inflamed. This increases the risk of eczema. Dry skin and eczemaEvery tenth Swede has some sort of eczema, an inflammation of the skin1 that can be relieved and prevented with the emollient cream Canoderm® 5% cream (carbamide).2

Dry skin

The skin controls the fluid balance and works as a protective barrier against irritants, such as bacteria and allergenic substances.People with dry skin or eczema have a deteriorated skin barrier that lets through too much moisture. The dry skin is sensitive and when it is exposed to irritants in the environment it begins to itch. The skin gets worse the more you scratch and it often becomes a vicious circle that results in the skin becoming inflamed. This increases the risk of eczema.

Eczema

Eczema may appear as isolated, scattered spots or be concentrated to e.g. the hands, arms and legs. You can also get red, chapped cheeks, cracks in the mouth region and redness/thickened skin in the flexures.

Atopic eczema is the most common type of eczema in children. Symptoms appear in episodes where calm, eczema-free periods relay with periods of troublesome eczema.

Eczema is neither contagious nor dangerous, but the symptoms can result in sleep disturbances and an impaired quality of life.3 The problems can be relieved and prevented by the emollient cream Canoderm.2

of atopiceczema2

Treatment of eczemaThe treatment of eczema aims at avoiding triggering factors, relieving dryness, itching and inflammation, as well as preventing eczema recurrences.

Canoderm contains a combination of moisture-binding and emollient ingredients which lubricate dry skin and strengthen the skin barrier. Canoderm thus contributes to normalisation of dry skin and reduces the risk of the eczema returning.2

• Applicate Canoderm twice a day. Smear liberally - see the application schedule alongside. With mild to moderate eczema, smear inflamed areas with an anti-inflammatory treatment, e.g. cortisone cream.

• Continue to applicate 2 times daily when the eczema has improved. This will prevent recurrences and prolong your trouble-free periods.

• Applicate a sufficient amount of cream to get the right effect. A basic rule of thumb is to applicate as much cream as the skin can absorb without getting sticky, as well as always smearing the skin after contact with water.

Can treatment cause side effects?

Canoderm can give a transient, local sensation of burning and heat and is therefore best suitable for adults and slightly older children.

If you experience pain, please try Miniderm® 20% cream (glycerol) or Minicare cream (5% glycerol + 60% fat) to start with. If any of the side effects persist or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
