Happy New Year! If you’re like most humans, you’ve made a resolution to get in shape or eat less junk food. Those are very noble goals,

but how about making a resolution to adopt a

wonderful kitty and save her from loneliness? And if you really want to go for the resolution hall of fame, why not adopt two! I’m Gray, a 15-year-old, declawed girl.

I’m wearing the princess tiara. Pictured below me is my 10-year-old sister, Cheeky. We were once the much-loved pets of a couple who passed away

within one years time. We're now looking for

loving homes, and we can be adopted together or

separately. We're affectionate, cuddly, quiet

girls, both spayed and up to date on vaccinations. The vet has given us thorough examinations and

we’re very healthy with no medical conditions. If you’d like to adopt one of us or both, call

Pet Friends of Duplin County at 910-285-4155. We’d now like to thank Dick Parrott for taking our lovely portraits. We behaved so beautifully in new

surroundings, posing like supermodels. It was a fun way to start the New Year, and we hope the fun

continues with our brand new families. We have a lot of great years ahead of us, so please call today!

My name is Athena and I am a super friendly girl. I do great with other

animals and kids, too. I was aban-

doned outside of a local veterinarian’s

office in a box! Fortunately, a

foster home with Adopt-An-ANGEL

had room for me. I had been dumped with my teenage kittens. There is

one left now and he is bigger than me!

His name is Samuel and you can find either one of us at Pet Supermarket on

Oleander Drive in Wilmington. Stop by and say hello. We’ll leave the light on for you. If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption proc-ess, give Adopt-An-ANGEL a call at 910-392-0557. You

may also visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

My name is Dutch and I’m a mature Boston Terrier

boy. My foster mom calls me a “giant marshmallow”. A wonderful description for

a boy much bigger than your average Boston. I’m a very happy-go-lucky and quiet guy who likes every-

one. I’m house-trained and crate-trained but I

seem to be hard of hearing and don’t respond to words or sounds. I do, however,

recognize hand signals and gestures. I’m a very

laid-back boy and happy to snuggle with my people. If you would like a giant marsh-mallow to be your new best friend, please fill out an adop-

tion application. I will eagerly be watching the inbox for yours to come through. For more information, please

contact Costal Carolina Boston Terrier Rescue at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. Visit us online

at www.ccbtr.org to find our adoption application.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

A SHELTER FRIEND

I’m Freedom, a beautifully-marked Catahoula mix. I

am a sweet, lovely girl and only about 1½-years-old –

which is old enough to have sense but young and energetic enough to have loads of fun with you! I’m the perfect smallish size of 30 pounds, already spayed

and vaccinated. Please call 910-876-0539 to learn

more about me or visit www.AShelterFriend.org. Remember: No one will

ever love you like a dog who was once abandoned.

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES

I’ve never met a human I didn’t like! That’s just part of

my nature. I come with a fabulous list of adoptable

traits - I’m already spayed, I listen well, I’m clean and

neat, I love my family and I would do anything for them! I’m also house-trained, vac-cinated, so loveable it’s pa-thetic! Well, I just have to

tell it like it is. I’ll make one of the best pets you’ve ever had and make you so proud of me. By the way, my name is Elsa (A079648) and I’m a 1-year-old female. With my list of qualities, it would make my day if you’d stop by the shelter and check me out. I know I could make you very happy - if you’ll just make me part of your loving family. The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jack-

sonville. To adopt me, please call 910-455-0182.

ALL 4 CATS

As sweet as candy, yep, Snickers here! I am a loving girl with people, but I’m not a

fan of other cats. After all, who would need another cat if you

had me?! I do enjoy being petted, relaxing in a good lap and sleeping in bed with my humans. I am a pretty easy-

going, spayed gal who is up to date on vaccines and micro-

chipped. I hope you come visit me real soon. I am ready for my forever home! Please call

919-710-3872 to set an appointment or check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/all4catsrescue for

upcoming events where we can visit.

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Inky and I was one of 4 kitties who were found by a local business in Surf City. We were all very scared when we arrived at our

foster home. We have come a long way from then but I still need a patient family who will give me time

to feel comfortable. I’m a sweet kitty who is 1½-years-old. I like to play, I’ll follow you

around to see what you are doing and I like toys that I can chase around. I have a brother named Beckham who is also up for adoption. I deserve a loving, inside home. If

you or someone you know would like a companion to share their life with, I would be perfect. If two would be better

than one, Beckham is the guy. If you would like more infor-mation, email [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

I’m Da Kidd, an English Bull Dog mix! I came to P.E.A.R. from the

side of the road, where I had been wandering the streets of Wilming-ton. I am now being boarded in a vet’s office and I have been oper-ated on several times for a prob-lem with my male parts. I have been through a lot and the bills

are getting larger. Any donation, no matter how big or small,

would really help. It is tax-deductible and can be sent to Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral, 50 Greenville

Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403. Please write in the memo that it is for Da Kidd from P.E.A.R. For more info, call

910-675-0867 or email [email protected].

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Knuks and I found myself homeless on the streets.

Not sure how long it was until I fi-nally found a place where I knew I would be safe and cared for. This special place was Animal House in Jacksonville where I used to go to

playtime some time ago. They con-tacted my last owner but he never came. I’m a wonderful girl who is friendly, loving, fully vetted, heart-worm negative and I know basic

commands. I am grateful to be in their care as I had lost 22 pounds. No worries now, as I have regained my weight and my eyes shine as bright as my coat. When I’m outside

they think I’m playing, but I am really dancing with joy! I want to thank everyone for donations to OCPAW as they have been able to help with my veterinary care. If you would like to come dance with me, call 910-353-2684.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

My name is Magic and I am praying that I will get a New Year gift of a forever family. I am a medium-sized hand-

some boy - a 2-year-old Walker Hound mix. I have been trained by inmates through Monty's Home

Pawsitive Partners Prison Program, so I can sit, stay,

walk nicely on a leash, potty correctly, and so much more! I thought that I would be home for Christmas, but it wasn't

to be. Still, I am filled with hope and enthusiasm, and I know my family will come this new year! For adoption info, visit us online at www.montyshome.org, write to

[email protected], or call us at 910-297-1338. Like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/montyshome.

CAROLINA ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY

Do you have a family member whose eyes are closed in every

picture? No? Well, I could fill that position. My name is Malcolm and

I’m a medium-haired, buff and white, neutered boy. I was left be-hind when my family moved away.

I am so happy to be back inside with food, fresh water, soft beds,

and lots of love. I am very quiet and sweet. I get along with other cats but I'm not crazy about dogs (I was chased frequently when I was on my own). I am getting better with

my foster mom's dog though. I love to look out the win-dow, sleep in the sunshine and cuddle with my foster mom.

To adopt me, email [email protected], call 910-330-1376, or visit www.capsrescue.com.

4 PAW LIFESAVER RESCUE

Hello! My name is Jedi and I’m a 9-month-old Shepherd and Husky mix. I was rescued when I was just a baby and have been living

with this really nice family. I am a super good boy! I am house and

crate-trained, I am good with other dogs, kids and I even have some friends who are horses. I'm still a puppy so I like to play and be active. I would really love a home with a furry friend to

play with and a nice big yard to run in. I love to go for walks, so if you’re one of those humans who likes to jog or

hike, we might get along really well. I have been to the vet and I am neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm prevention. All I need now is a home to call my own. If you might be the new humans for me, call

252-531-0744 or email [email protected].

PET FRIENDS OF DUPLIN COUNTY

My name is Camper and I'm

a 3-year-old Walker Hound who was res-

cued just before my time ran out. I've been neu-

tered and am up to date on all my vaccina-tions. I get

along great with other dogs and cats. I'm a very friendly, laid-back kind of guy. I would love to live on a farm where I could run all day, then at night I would be very happy to

curl up at your feet. If this sounds good to you, please call 910-271-3101 and find out how to meet me.

COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (C.A.R.E.)

Hi, I’m Dexi! I am a very loving girl who is back with C.A.R.E. after my furever home didn’t turn out to

be forever. My new family had some personal issues and could no longer take care of me. I am spayed, microchipped, great with

people and other dogs. I was originally surrendered to C.A.R.E.

with demodex (mange), but my friends took care of me and now I

am looking good and feeling great! To adopt me, please call 910-256-2624 or visit

www.carewilmington.org and fill out an application. If you would like to donate, click the donate button on our

website. For updates on me and my friends, like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/carewilmington.

FUREVER FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE

I’m Bluff, a super sweet 1½-year-old female Pit mix. I was found trying to survive by eating garbage in the road. I

was alone, emaciated, and tired. Today, I am gentle and loving

and so happy to have been res-cued. I do well with cats, other dogs, and especially humans

who will love me just as much as I do them. I am quickly learning

to walk on a leash and be house-trained. I have been given a second chance at life and want to be the best pup I can be for my new family - who I know is out there waiting for me! To adopt me, call

910-383-2100 or visit fureverfriendsanimalrescue.org.

MISSING

SENIOR CAT

Otis was lost in Echo Farms and was last seen on 11-30 around Appleton Way.

He is very shy and afraid.

If you have information or see him, please call 910-259-7022.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running

Out! Hi there, my name is Nova

(A014993). If you’re looking for a well-trained, friendly, affectionate girl, here I am! I am already spayed and house-trained (yay)! I’m

friendly to children, friendly to dogs and I walk well on a

leash. I can sit on com-mand, just check out my

photo for proof. My former owner made sure I got to

the vet’s office regularly so I’m up to date on all vacci-

nations and am on flea prevention. I’m heartworm negative, too, which is great news! I’ve never been around cats so I’m not sure how I’d react to them. At just 10-months-old, I’m ready to make my new family very happy! Won’t you

please come meet me? I’ve been at the shelter for a while now and more dogs arrive every day, so please hurry! My

adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, and 30 day flea/tick treatment. The shelter is now open on Sundays,

from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at

910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

Adopt-An-ANGEL

My name is Coco and I’m one fine girl! I’m a 6-year-old Boxer mix who is calm,

affectionate and a real sweetheart. When you come to visit me, you

might think I look shy in my kennel, but just spend some time with me and

you’ll see just how loving I truly am. My family surren-

dered me because they are moving and could not take me with them. Their loss could be your gain!

I’m house-trained, spayed, vaccinated, good with kids,

cats and other dogs and I’m good on a leash. I even know how to sit, shake, beg and stay on command (see, I’m even begging in my picture and wagging my tail). I’m genuinely a wonderful companion who

you don’t want to miss out on.

◄Hello there! My name is Armstrong and I am a very good boy. I am happy and exuberant. I seem to

do well with other dogs but I’m just not too fond of cats. I enjoy having

fun and I love to pull my foster mom on a skate-board or run alongside a bike. I love to play, but I am really calm

inside a house. If you are active people, I would even do well in an apartment. I am neutered, heartworm negative, vaccinated and weigh

around 50 to 60 pounds.

►My name is Barbara and I am an adorable teenage kitten. I am a very sweet, dainty girl. I had such a rough start and I am so

glad that is all behind me now. I was one of about twenty cats and kittens (and one dog) living in a small home. Adopt-An-

ANGEL fixed everyone in my household and took all of us kittens and the dog to find us homes. I had the

most amazing foster family who nursed me back to health so that I could find a family to pamper and love me like I deserve. I love to be whis-pered to and touched. You can find me at Petco every

weekend until someone falls in love with me.

◄My name is Wicka and I am a deaf Boxer mix. I am solid white and such a sweet girl. I am basic obedience-trained. I know sit, down, and can shake for treats and I even know hand signals. If you have a wild and noisy home, with or without older children, it won’t matter to me! The shelter describes me as a complete and utter joy - a real doll. Please don’t worry about my disability. It doesn’t slow me down at all.

►My name is Belle and I am a vision-

impaired Black Lab/Pit mix who is homeless. I’ve had a rough life so far, having lived my life in a junk yard, but you

can help change that. I can’t see very well so I

can't find my family. Please share your eyes with me and help me. I cannot see out of one

eye and I only see shadows out of my

other. I am a gentle, funny, easy dog who gets along with cats

and dogs. I do need a patient, stable, quiet family because of my rough start. I need someone who doesn’t have a lot

of company in and out. I like to carry tennis balls and hoard toys! I am house-trained, fixed, vaccinated and

heartworm negative.

►My name is Otis and I’m a very handsome boy. I’m 4-years-old,

declawed, neutered and vaccinated. I’m a solid,

healthy dude who is homeless because of

some human’s allergies. If cats don’t make you sneeze or make your eyes water and itch,

please consider rescuing me. My heart is full of

love and I have a won-derful purrsonality.

Please call the shelter about adopting me!

Page 12: PawPrints Magazine January 2015

My name is Scooter and I am a middle-aged Jack Russell. I do great with other animals

and I am really smart. I know lots of tricks such as

high five and sit. I am house-trained and I weigh ap-proximately 25

pounds. So if you want a smart,

smaller dog, we need to hook up because you will

fall in love with me. So far I am a shel-ter favorite and not

expected to last long. I am really

healthy, too. I tested negative for heartworms, I am vacci-nated and heartworm negative and I even had a negative

fecal. I am just perfect with only one fault - I am homeless, which is easy to fix. If you would like to know more about

me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, give Adopt-An-ANGEL a call today at 910-392-0557. You may

also visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Oscar and Madison Pour - two very special,

life changing Jack Russell Terriers.

◄Hi! My name is Dazzle (A076153) and I am quite the charming young lady. I am a fully grown, medium- sized cat who is looking for just the right place to spend the rest of my days sun-bathing and taking long naps. I’m just 2-years-old and already spayed. Come see me and let’s fall in love!

◄Hello, Paw-Prints readers! My name is Ajax (A075129) and I am a wide-eyed, 10-month-old, 44 pound, Treeing Walker Hound mix. Come see me!

about coal for the New Year? You see, that’s me, Coal (A076398)!

I’m a 2-month-old Terrier mix boy with

the sweetest face and eyes you ever did see. I sat so sweetly for my photo and enjoyed all the attention. I just

love being with people and I’d love growing up with you by my side!

►Is your heart set on adopting an adorable kitten? Well, you’ve

come to the right place because here I am! My name is Tanga

(A076178) and I’m an 8-week-old baby girl

who would love to snuggle with you on

these cold winter days. Like all kittens, I’m fun,

friendly, playful and extremely affectionate.

Come on over to the shelter and get to know me. I’ll be waiting with anticipation and purrs.

Cats ~ Dogs

14 www.PawPrintsMagazine.com January 2015

I am Buster, a sweet Boxer boy. I’m 2-years-old, neutered and update

on everything. I love good belly rubs and love to give hugs. Sadly, I’ve been through a lot in my life. My owner tragically

passed away, leaving me by myself for over 5-months. I had a nice

man who came to check on me a few times a

week. Since then, I’ve been bounced around. I am good with cats and other dogs and I would do better living in a house with older children.

Also, I need a home that has experience with the Boxer breed. If you would like to learn more

about me, call Aunt Kerry's 910-792-1311 or R.A.C.E. at 910-579-0407.

Sponsored in loving memory of Roxy.

Allow me to introduce myself. My

name is Lana (A080270) and they say I am a Domestic Short Hair. I’ve been

here in the shelter for way too long and

I’m not certain why I ended up

here. My qualifications to successfully complete a ‘human rescue mission’ are many. If forced to name just a few: I will be

spayed and have my vaccinations brought up to date when adopted, I also love people and I’m gentle-spirited. So, please come by the Onslow County Animal Shelter

and visit with me in person and see what a terrific feline I am. Allow me to “rescue you” today from your mediocre

life. You’ll never regret your decision, I promise! The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville.

To adopt me, please call 910-455-0182.

I am sponsored by Dan and Sue Tuman in honor of all the cats who are waiting for homes at the shelter.

Hi, I'm Pepsi! I am a mix of two highly prized

breeds - Basenji and Lab-rador Retriever. I am just 2-years-old, medium size. I have a very elegant de-

meanor and when we take walks together in the fu-

ture, I can assure you that people will stop you con-stantly to say how beauti-ful I am. I can't help it. It's

just in the genes, you know? But I have brains,

too. An inmate trainer at a correctional facility has

taught me to sit, stay, walk nicely on a leash, potty

the correct way, and lots more. I have a diploma to prove it. So all you have to do is take me home, love me and

take care of me; I'll do the rest. Easy, huh? For adoption information, visit us online at www.montyshome.org, write to [email protected], or call us at 910-297-1338.

Like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/montyshome.

◄Hey, I'm Annie. I'm a really loving girl. I was

found by the side of a road

and have been fostered a long time, so I really want my own forever home. I would proba-bly do best in a

low-key, quiet environment where I can relax and get lots of love and cuddles. If you're looking for a sweet, gentle

kitty, you should give me a chance!

◄Hey there, I'm Mo! I'm a 1-year-old tuxedo male. I may look regal and elegant, but I'm actually very playful and loving, too. I am good with cats, chil-dren, and well-behaved dogs. If you're looking for a super awesome, sweet cat, there's no doubt that I'm the one for you! Please come visit me and make a little space for me in your home!

◄Are you looking for a beautiful cat with a mel-low, sweet personality? If so, I'm your girl. I'm Isis, a 9-year-old blue-eyed Calico beauty who

really needs a new home. I'm unhappy being in a cage at Petsmart and have

been in several foster homes lately since I

have not adjusted well to being kept in a cage. Won't you consider giving me a new home so I can be a happy kitty? I'm ready for your doting affection and love, and I just love

having my fur brushed! Come get me soon!

◄Hi, I'm Maggie! I'm a sweet and playful girl. I have lived with one other cat and loved wrestling with him. I am also used to children and ok with dogs, too. I've adjusted quite well to staying with fosters and appreciate my temporary home at Petsmart, but I think it's about time that I get my forever home where I can receive all the love and attention I deserve!

▲I'm a curious and sweet girl named Caylie. I love to play with feather toys and walk around with you. I'm a very lov-ing girl looking for a forever home where I can settle down

for good. I'm also spayed, vaccinated, and litterbox-trained.

►I'm Moozie, a

6-month-old black kitten who is wait-ing for my

forever home.

I'm a very sweet,

laid-back little fella and I get

along well with others,

though I am a bit shy at first. With a little patience, I'm sure to warm up to you. I would be happiest with another cat or a well-behaved dog. I would love to go home with

you and be loved by you all day long!

Hi, I am Ricky Bobby! I was an outdoor dog who

wasn't properly taken care of. I was dehy-drated and had acute kidney disease with a

possible spider bite. My issues have resolved

and I am ready for a new home. I am great with

other dogs and have lots of energy. Plus I am a

total goofball. If you are interested in adopting

Hi! My name is

Precious Hoot. I was so scared when I

was brought

to C.A.R.E.

I had been left outside alone with a broken hip and tail. Luckily, C.A.R.E. helped get me the surgery I needed. I am not sure why someone would have abandoned me but it hasn't affected my love for people. I am quite the athlete and have fun playing with my soccer balls and bird toys. If you are interested

in adopting me, please call 910-256-2624 or visit www.carewilmington.org and fill out an application. If you

▲This month we’re serving two kinds of Cupcakes. There is one vanilla, aka white kitty, and one marble, aka brown Tabby. We are both named Cupcake. The vanilla variety is 9-years-old and has one blue eye and one green

eye. The marble variety is a 2-year-old, female, brown Tabby. We are both very sweet and non-filling for those

of you who are counting calories!

◄Just like Sully

Sullenberger, I will save your life! I won’t

land a plane in the river, but I will save you from a life of loneliness. I

am a very laid back 2-year-old cat who

gets along with everyone, even other cats. I am a beautiful white kitty. We’re the ones who usually get adopted first, but I am still waiting for that special someone. Maybe it is you!

►They say orange fe-males are rare, ap-

proximately 1 in 100, and yet

here I am. My name is Aster and I’m an all

orange kitty who is

about 18-months-old. I don’t play catch - that’s just foolish for a cat. I am more refined than that. I love to sit on my

throne and look over my country. Or in other words, sit on the couch and look over the house. So if you want a sweet,

royal kitty, then I’m your choice.

◄O-la-la, who doesn’t want a French man in

their life, even if I am a Siamese

mix. My name is Pierre, and like

any other French man, I am slow to adjust to change. I want things my way. If you are

willing to give me a chance, you

won’t be disap-pointed. I am very

sweet and will whisper sweet nothings in your ear! Okay, so that part is

not true, but I will love you forever.

►They say that Elvis has left the building, but he

really hasn’t. I’m still sitting here shaking, rattling and rolling and

singing my heart out! I am a younger

Elvis, the one be-fore the fat days, a

cute self-reliant Tabby, once again

before my over indulgent stage. I love attention, but

like Elvis, only when I want it. So at 2-years-old, we have quite a bit of time to spend together.

►I have royal blood. Why else would they call me Maximilian.

I am a white kitty with green eyes who loves nothing better than to be subservient - yes, you read that right, subservient and I’ll

sleep on your lap all day. The minute you sit down, I’ll be right

there. I get a little nerv-ous up at Petsmart but I promise I will love you

to death. My foster mom couldn’t keep me

off of her. Plus, I am only a kitten at just 8-months-old.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is

Running Out! I’m Bagel (A014785),

the Beagle mix boy! I’m also sweet, loving, play-ful, friendly and goofy!

I adore everyone - men, women, children, dogs

and yes, cats! It’s a mystery to everyone why I’ve been waiting for a home since No-

vember 13. A great boy like me deserves a

loving family - and you deserve a best friend

like me. I’m not a hunting dog, I want to be a companion, a beloved friend who goes for neighborhood walks or trips to

the beach and park. I’m only 2-years-old so we have a lifetime of memories to make! But please hurry - dogs

arrive every day and there’s not enough kennels to hold us all. My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, and

30 day flea/tick treatment. The shelter is now open on Sun-days, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For

more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is

Running Out! Hello there, my name is Paddington Bear (A014997)! I’ve only

been on the planet for 14 short weeks, so I’m

not sure how I’m al-ready running out of

time! I’m told that folks bring dogs to the shelter every day, and there’s just not enough room

for us all. I hope some-one will see my sweet puppy face and come

rescue me! I was found as a stray and I sure do love to be held, as you can see from my picture. I was com-

pletely relaxed as they took my photo and I enjoyed these moments of being cuddled. I am friendly to the other

dogs I’ve met at the shelter and I have the sweetest per-sonality. Won’t you please come visit? You can hold me in your arms and perhaps we’ll fall in love! My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough

vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, and 30 day flea/tick treatment. The shelter is now open on Sundays, from

1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more

◄My name is Marx (A315456) and I’m a family cat who loves snuggling and being held. I enjoy playing with toys and munching on kitty treats. I’m a healthy and handsome guy who is neutered and current on vaccinations. I was brought to the shelter as a stray but I definitely act like I was once a cher-ished family member. I’m only 10-months-old and need your love.

◄Looking for a mid-sized German Shepherd mix? My name is Brody(A315203) and I’m a happy guy. Not like a wild and crazy guy, but my soul is joyful. I’m a loving sweetheart who knows how to sit, lay down, shake and high five on command. I take treats gently and enjoy being next to you. I’m a pro at playing fetch but not in a demanding way. Please rescue me.

►Wow, I spent my whole life devoted to my mom and thinking we’d be together for-ever. Unfortunately after 15-years in a

committed relationship with her, she passed away. My name is

Brynn (A314884) and I’m totally heartbroken and lonely. My mom’s

daughter could not take me in because

she is allergic to cats, so I’m hoping some-one will step forward

and give me the home and security a loving

senior girl like me deserves. I love to be petted and will rub and snuggle up against you. I’m litter-trained, spayed,

vaccinated, and I’ve lived with a dog before.

►I’m super loveable, big boy named Jack (A315214). I’m

3-years-old and homeless because my family moved out of state. They brought me here to the shelter and surrendered me with the

hopes that I’ll find a wonderful home. I have so much love to give and when you pair that with my good

looks and sage green eyes, I’m pretty irresistible. Head rubs, neck scratches and

being petted make me purr with delight. I’m an inside only kitty who is litter-trained

and good with kids. Could I adopt your family?

►I was a stray cat who was doing his best to survive. I wandered up to someone’s back porch and persuaded them to bring me to safety

here at the shelter. Now that I’m here, I am so appreciative that I always keep my cage clean and neat. My name is Jasper (A314995) and I’ve

been giving it my all to find a forever home. I’ve been on

television and I’ve even been looking for love online. So I

figured, why not try print next? I’m an intelligent guy who really wants a family to spoil. I’m approximately 4-years-old, neutered and vaccinated. I’m extremely purry, I give head butts, I make biscuits and I’m always nuzzling up against someone. If you want the text book definition of the purrfect feline companion, you will

want to adopt me.

◄Medium-sized dog seeks BIG love! My name is Chuck (A315475) and I’m a 2-year-old Hound.

I’m a very happy boy who is neutered and current on

vaccinations. I love to play ball - in fact, I love to play, period. I was found running loose in Bexley

Development and now I’m here impatiently waiting for a family to adopt me.

I’m very food motivated so you can use that to teach

me all kinds of tricks. Please stop by the shelter

today and let’s start our journey together.

My name is Magic and I

am still looking for a home and

praying that I will get a New Year gift of a forever

family. For some rea-son I haven't yet been noticed by you readers so let me assure you that I am perfect, in my opinion. I am a real

sweetie pie and all the volunteers adore me. I especially love plopping my head down into a human friend's lap and

snuggling. I also love belly rubs. You won't find a nicer dog than me, so why look further? Pick me! Pick me!

Pretty please? I am a medium-sized handsome boy - a 2-year-old Walker Hound mix. I have been trained by in-mates through Monty's Home Pawsitive Partners Prison Program, so I can sit, stay, walk nicely on a leash, potty correctly, and so much more! I thought that I would be

home for Christmas, but it wasn't to be. Still, I am filled with hope and enthusiasm, and I know my friend will come this

new year! For adoption information, visit us online at www.montyshome.org, write to [email protected], or

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out! It’s love you’re

looking for? Well, I’m one of the most loving cats ever! My name is

Mr. Butternut (A014733) and I just

can’t be held, kissed or cud-dled enough.

I was so happy when they took me out of my cage for my photo. I was petted and caressed, and it felt so good to sit

on this plush carpet. Right after this photo was taken, I flopped over on my side and stretched in ecstasy! It takes so little to make me happy - won’t you adopt me and give

me the home I deserve? I’m a 2-year-old, orange and white boy who was found as a stray in November. Cats arrive at the shelter every day and there is not room enough for us

all, so please hurry! I won’t disappoint you, I’m truly a won-derful, affectionate cat. My adoption fee includes vaccines

(FVRCP & Rabies), deworming and 30 day flea/multiparasite treatment . The shelter is open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at

My name is Knuks and I once had a wonderful

home with my owner, how-ever something happened

and I found myself with new owners. The next thing I know is that I’m

homeless on the streets. I searched and searched hoping to find my first owner, but the more I

searched the more lost I became. Not sure how long it was until I finally found a place where I

knew I would be safe and cared for. This special

place is Animal House in Jacksonville where I used to go to playtime some time ago. They contacted my last owner and told him I was there but he never came for me. The folks at

Animal House know what a wonderful girl I am - very friendly and loving, fully vetted, heartworm negative and knowing basic commands. I am so grateful to be in their

care as I had lost 22 pounds and have quite a few scars on my legs. No worries now, as I have regained my weight

and my eyes shine as bright as my coat. When I’m outside they think I’m playing, but I am really dancing, as I am so happy to be warm, fed and loved, and you should see my toys! If you would like to come dance with me, please call Animal House at 910-353-2684. Also, I just want to sin-

cerely thank everyone for their donations to Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare (OCPAW) as they have been

able to help with my veterinary care.

Loveable Kitten Duo Needs Home Together! We are Checkers and Ziggy, two loving girls

looking for a family. (I’m Ziggy, stretched out in the foreground, and

that’s Checkers in the back.) Our story begins

in Mississippi when a series of tornados hit our

hometown. Buildings were destroyed, people died, and we never saw

our mom again. We were just 3-weeks-old when we were taken into a loving

foster home. We thrived there and are now in Oak Island at another foster home. We are both very sweet kittens - laid-back, affectionate, and playful. We are used to living with

other cats, a big dog, teenagers and adults. We enjoy sleeping with our folks and purring in their laps. Checkers and I get along great together, napping and playing with

each other. Unfortunately, after we were spayed and vacci-nated, we tested positive for feline leukemia. We feel great

now, and this virus may not cause us to be ill for many, many years...or ever! Some kittens do get rid of the virus entirely. We are looking for a home where we can live to-gether, inside only. (The virus can be transmitted to other kittens, while adult cats with vaccinations are at a very low risk of infection.) Could you give two tornado-survivors a

loving home? Our foster mom would be happy to tell you all about us. Please call her at 910-278-4437 and let’s meet!

When I'm not being a couch potato, I

can be quite enter-taining. I share a colorful conversa-

tion in a most unique and funny voice, and I also speak quite well with that soulful

Basset gaze. I am house-trained and

crate-trained at night. I do great on

leash and I even know a few commands - Come, Stay, Down, No, and

sometimes Sit - unless I am in my stubborn Bassett mode. I love to cuddle with people or other four leggers. I like to hang out in the yard, too. I lap up all the attention I can

get and always strive to please. I love belly rubs and I will give my paw to you to tell you not to stop. I love my after-

noons hanging outside with my humans and my foster brothers and sisters. I am looking for a forever home to spoil me rotten, as I have grown accustomed to this life-

style. My bags are packed and I am ready for my forever home. Please give Carolina Basset Hound Rescue a call and ask for Gypsy Rose Lee! To make me a member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website

I am sponsored in loving memory of the coolest Kahuna dog, Higgins.

When my owners in Hampstead moved away, I was left be-hind! Luckily, on of the volunteers that

helps at Pender Humane Society saw my situation and fed me for several weeks until there was room for me at the shelter.

(She would have loved to keep me, but her house was already

full.) They call me Sweetum because I have the most laid-

back and friendly per-sonality that anyone could hope for in a

kitty. It’s quite obvious that I’m used to being taken care of and was quite comfortable being a member of the family. How anyone could leave me behind is a mystery! I am a girl, about 4-years-old, spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-

trained. I get along with the other cats at the shelter and I enjoy snuggling in cozy cat beds and being petted. To find out if you and I are a match, please call Pender Humane

Society at 910-259-7022.

◄Dixie – that’s me! I’m a Hound mix girl, just 2½-years-old. I’m looking for a family who will spend time with me and play with me in a fenced yard or take me running. Paw’s Place has made sure that I’m up to date on my shots. I’m also heartworm negative, spayed and microchipped. I’m a tall girl and I weigh in at about 45 pounds. I really love people, especially kids. Stop by Paw’s Place to see if we can run together!

◄Our names are Shadow (Black Lab mix) and Sampson (Shepherd mix). We

share the same kennel with two other female Shepherd mixes. I’m

Shadow and I’m a little bit older at about

9-weeks. The little ones are just 6-weeks, so I like to act like the big brother. We love to play and are simply

adorable. Typical precious puppies, that’s us! We are ready for adoption and hope to see you at a Meet & Greet

or at Paw’s Place. Ask for the cute little ones!

▲Have you ever thought about adopting a senior? That would be me, Velvet – I’m almost 10 years

old! But I am really quite spry. Sometimes I act a little tough when you go by my kennel, but that’s an act – I am a real marshmallow when I am out and

about. I am very affectionate and loving and I really enjoy going for walks. I know that the right person or family is out there for me. We just haven’t found each

other yet! Wouldn’t it be great if my “perfect” senior person found me!

◄My name is Bailey and I’m a female Aussie/

Shepherd mix. We think I’m about 1½-years-old. I found myself at Paw’s

Place because my owner had such severe allergies

she had to be hospital-ized. At first I was shy and scared, but now I

realize that people really just want to help me. I’m a great size - not too big, not too small. I’m up to date on shots, spayed

and microchipped. A family with a fenced-in yard would be a dream come true. Please come visit me!

◄My name is Tess and I’m a 4-year-old Red

Tick Coonhound, spayed and up to date on shots. As a Hound, I do like to chase smaller animals like cats, small dogs and geese, but my foster mom has

worked with me to teach me the rules of the house, how to walk on a leash

and how to behave around other dogs. I really enjoy play-ing with dogs my own size. If you’d like to meet me, please

make an appointment as I’m not at the kennel. I’m a big people lover – will you share your bed with me?

◄My name is John Boy and I really don’t

understand why I haven’t been

adopted yet! The people here say I have an ‘old soul’. But hey, I’m only four. What’s so old about that? I arrived with

heartworms and am being treated for that. I also have some arthritis, so a new home or even a foster home would be great. At the shelter, I’m outside and the

cold has been very hard on my joints. In my dreams, when I go to sleep at night, I’ll hear my human say,

“Good night, John Boy.” Can’t wait for the real thing!

My name is Greta and I hope I’m destined to

be your new best friend! I could use one after the sad time I’ve had. You see, I once lived in a very happy home with another

dog. Sadly, our owner had an accident and now lives in an as-sisted living facility

where dogs aren’t al-lowed. So we came to the shelter, hoping that

we’d find ourselves back in a loving home soon. Well, my buddy got adopted, but I’m

still waiting! I’m a 10-year-old Brittany Span-

iel mix who weighs in at a perfectly sized 38 pounds. I’m house-trained, leash-trained and familiar with a doggy door. I’m also spayed, sweet as pie and in great health. I enjoy

laying in the sun here at the shelter, taking naps and enjoying the day. I would be happy living with another dog since I’m

used to that, but I’d also be fine on my own in a loving family. Won’t you please come visit me? I’m such a darling girl and I’d love to get to know you. For adoption info, call the New

Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 .

◄I’m a very fun and very friendly female kitten. I just adore being given attention and can’t wait to be held! My name is Sparkles (A015169) and I was found as a stray in the Rocky Point area. It’s a mystery how a loving girl like me ended up on her own, but you can give my story a happy ending!

I’m that pretty! My name is Jessica

Yep! That's me, Lyla - showing off at

the Christmas parade! I really wowed the crowd. That's why I'm surprised

no one has taken me home! But I can be

patient. I would rather wait and have the right

person than just go home with anybody! I'm

a female Boxer mix, about 4-years-old, and I'm sweet, smart and

quite pretty. I can even sit, shake and give

kisses. I get along well with other dogs and

really don't mind cats! I promise I will make it worth your while if you just take me home. Come meet me and see

for yourself what a great companion I would be! For driving directions or more information, please

call SOAR at 910-457-6340.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the

Rainbow Bridge.

Hi, my name is Sweetie. I was a

stray cat who wan-dered up to some-

one's house in need of serious

dental treatment. I currently am being treated for Perio-dontal Disease,

tooth abscesses, fleas, and being

underweight. Treatment went great and they removed an in-

fected tooth. My name says it all. I am very sweet and laid-back. I am

ready to find my furever home! Could it be with you? If you are interested in adopting me, call 910-256-2624 or visit www.carewilmington.org and fill out an application. If you would like to donate to C.A.R.E., click the donate

◄Looking for a sweet girl? I’m Dakota and I hope you’ll consider me! I’m a healthy, happy and friendly 1-year-old girl who will brighten up anyone’s life. I am spayed, vaccinated and eager to please. I listen well and I sit on command. They tell me I’m a Lab mix. I get along wonderfully well with other dogs, too! Won’t you hop in the car today and come meet me?

◄You say that camera you’re holding will help everyone see how cute I am? That’s great! My name is Dixie and I’m a Hound mix girl, about 2 to 3-years-old. I was found all by myself on Route 210 toward Hamp-stead. I’ve had all my shots and am spayed. I’m very sweet and I get along with all other dogs and cats. I’m house-trained, too! Do yourself a big favor and come meet me!

◄I’m a social and friendly little girl named Nala and if you let me sit in your lap, I’ll be even happier! Every bone in my body is gentle and loving. I was found all alone, hungry and thin, but I adore every person I meet and I’m putting on weight. I’ll be a petite girl - 35 pounds would be perfect for me. I’m spayed, friendly to other dogs and a complete lovebug. Adopt me!

▲Pick one of us as your new playmate and best friend! I’m Jasmine and this is my buddy, Mr. Darcy. We are 5 to 6-month-old kittens who enjoy people and enjoy

life! We love to play, we love to be held and we love to receive attention. Adopt us together or separately and

start 2015 off with a wonderful new family member!

◄I’m an adorable dilute Tortie girl and my name is Izzy! My mother was dropped off at someone’s house and I was born un-der the porch with my littermates. I am a typical kitten: friendly, playful and extremely loveable. I am just 10-weeks-old, spayed and up to date on all my kitten vaccinations. Come cuddle me and let’s fall in love!

►They call me Champ! I’m ready to enjoy 2015 with my new best friend. Are you? I’m a 1½-year-

old Shepherd mix who never meets a stranger. I am very friendly and I love to run and play. A fenced yard would be great! I’m a big boy,

about 70 pounds, and I’m already neutered and

vaccinated. I know how to sit and stay on com-mand and I learn very quickly. I’ll be such a

wonderful companion for any lucky person or fam-ily. Come to the shelter and let’s get to know one another!

A quartet of kittens! Would you like to bring one (or

more) of us home? You can do it! Just visit the shelter and spend a little time with us. You’ll have the time of

your life as we skip, hop and roll all around you. We are

Gabriel, Rudy, Eve and Alfie (three boys and one girl) and

we were born under someone’s porch. Now we’re at the shelter, melting hearts

and giving smiles and laughter to all who meet us.

We are just 8-weeks-old and extremely adorable. We love to be cuddled and kissed and we enjoy chasing toys. Do

you think you could take time out of your busy schedule for some kitten love? We’re great stress relievers, so we

hope you do! Call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and they’ll be happy to give you driving directions or

I bet you’re won-dering, “Just what is this little cutie?” Well, they tell me I’m a mixture of Chihuahua, Mal-tese and Poodle. Pretty adorable, huh? I’m less

than 10 pounds so holding me is a cinch, I’m light

as a feather. And goodness knows, I love to be held!

My name is Bryan and I’m

just 5-months-old. My two sisters

and I were given up by our owners

because they could not take care of all three of us. (Our mother and father are still with our former owner and are going to be fixed.) My sisters were recently adopted so I’m the only one left looking for a home! Please hurry to

the shelter so that you can be the lucky one to snatch me up. I am neutered and vaccinated and ready to give you love and kisses. Please call Pender Humane Society at

910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!

◄Hi, I am Buster and a sweet Boxer boy. I am 2-years-old,

neutered and up to date on eve-rything. I love good belly rubs

and love to give hugs. Sadly, I have been through a lot in my 2-years. My first owner tragi-

cally passed away which left me by myself for over 5-months. I did have a nice man who came to check on me a few times a week. Since then I have been bounced around. I am good

with cats and other dogs and it has been decided that I would do better living in a house with older children. Also, I will need

to go to a home that has experience with the Boxer breed. If you would like to learn more about me, call Aunt Kerry's at

910-792-1311 or R.A.C.E. at 910-579-0407.

◄My name is Scooter and I’m a happy-go-lucky 9 pound Terrier and Chi-huahua mix. I am very

unique as I have a beau-tiful blue merle coat,

which makes me one of a kind. I am young at 6 to 9-months of age. I

love, love, love to play so I would be happiest if I had a playmate. I am

high energy so another dog and a fenced yard would be awesome for me. I am crate-trained,

almost completely house-trained and fully vetted.

►My name is Cinnamon and I am a 7-year-old,

red Dachshund. I require a quiet

home as I can get very nervous if it is loud and crazy. I am very loving but I need to be

introduced slowly. Once we are

friends, I will be a perfect pet for

you. I do fine with all other dogs and

I like to take walks and go for car rides. I also like being on the couch with you and watch-

ing television. I’ll even let you pick what we watch!

◄Hey y’all, my name is Jasey (pronounced

JC) and I am a 4-year-old, 16 pound, white

and tan Terrier mix. My owner died and I am

sad but I live in a foster home with four other dogs and that

helps. I am also fine with cats. I am extremely sweet and loving and I am completely vetted and ready to go. The only thing I need to get used to is riding in the car. I think it’s because I’m

scared that I’m going to be abandoned again.

►My name is Max and I am an 8-year-old Boxer mix. I am just so loving and I get along with other dogs. I was found in horrible shape. I still

look a little rough around the edges

but my time to shine is just around the corner. I need to gain a little more

weight but none of that really matters

though because it’s what’s inside that

counts. If you give me a chance, I will melt your heart. I

am fully vetted and weigh 52 pounds.

◄Hello, my name is Reece and I am a very sweet but shy chocolate and white female Chihuahua. I will be a perfect companion to you as long as you let me get to know you slowly. They think I was abused or on my own before I came to R.A.C.E. I am spayed, current on all vaccines, on flea and heartworm preven-tion and microchipped. My foster mom says I am the total package once I feel comfortable.

Page 36: PawPrints Magazine January 2015

My name is Bella and I am a wonderful cat. I am calm, low-key, and will be a little shy until I gain confidence

in my new home. I am

playful but don't demand to play. I like to be pet-ted and to cud-dle, but I won’t demand your

attention. I like to spend much of my day in a comfortable

spot looking out of the window, especially on nice days when there are birds and lizards and bugs to watch. For a while, there was an-

other cat in my foster home. He thought that we should play and roughhouse together. I was really happy when he

found his forever family. Even though I would rather be an only cat, I do OK with well-behaved dogs. It took me about 2-weeks to get comfortable being around the two big dogs who live in my foster home. Now I am pretty sure that I’m

the boss of them. If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, give

Adopt-An-ANGEL a call at 910-392-0557.

sweethearts. We are also the best

of friends and would love to be

adopted together. We get along so great and would be no trouble at all. It would be

◄Happy New Year!! I'm Sadie! And if you are looking for a great way to start the year, well, you're looking at

her! I'm a Beagle/Hound mix weighing

around 30 pounds. I'm about 6-years-old but I have a puppy soul. I can be a little shy at first, but I love to play

ball, so bring me a tennis ball and I’m all yours! I would prefer

to be the only puppy in your life. So what do you think? Are you

ready to start the New Year with a New Best Friend?

►HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO

ME!!!! My name is Lily - and I just turned

3-years-old! I'm a beautiful girl and I'm

as sweet as I am pretty. I love to sit in

people’s laps and get my head rubbed. I live with other cats here at the shelter so I think it

would be fine for me to live with other cats at

your house, too. It would be such a great

birthday present to have my very own

home. Let’s go!

►Hello! My New Year’s resolution is to give lots of love to

someone - if they will just come and adopt me!

My name is Allie and I'm about

4-years-old. I'm a sweet girl but I do have some trust issues and I don’t

get along with cats, so I’d like a home without felines, please. I'm a Terrier mix who weighs in at 45 to 50

pounds, a nice medium size. I can sit and shake paws, too! I’m looking for a loving, patient person who can keep a consistent schedule with me. Come visit me so that we

can learn more about each other!

►I got a new brush for Christ-mas and I've got

it packed and I'm ready to go

home with YOU! My name is Kita and I’m one of the sweetest Akita/Corgi

mixes you will ever meet! I

love to be brushed and

petted and I get along great with other dogs. Cats get me too excited so a feline-free home would be perfect. I'm a little over 3-years- old and I'm just a big furrball of love. Come meet me soon!

►I'm the sweetest furrgirl and I know you

can't tell in this black and white photo but I

have the most beauti-ful green eyes! (You

can see me in glorious color on PawPrints

Magazine’s website, though! Just click on the link to the digital issue.) My name is

Allie and I'm a calm, 7-year-old girl with lots

of love to give! I'm in the open cat room so I

don't have problems getting along with

other cats. Visit me!

was found as a stray but I must have been part of a family at one time because I sure do love people. I’m super

sweet, I make biscuits when you pet me, I give head butts and I’ll appreciate any and all love and attention you give

me. I enjoy it so much that it makes me drool. I’m 2-years-old, spayed, vaccinated and deserve a home with

A Tiny, Bonded Pair, Sweet Lil and Grayson!

Sweet Lil tells their story: My buddy, Grayson, and I were living a great life until our owner passed away. There

wasn't anyone in the family who could take care of us so they took us to Animal Control. The nice folks at Carolina

Poodle Rescue heard about us and took us in. We are doing well in our foster home. Grayson and I always stay

together in the same bed or walk outside or eat next to each other. We have been together since we were both very young pups, so we are lost without each other. Our foster mom says we are truly a bonded pair and I would

be really sad without my pal. We are crate-trained, house-trained and real snuggle bunnies. We can't wait to find

our new forever homes! Please, no young children as we are so small, we might get stepped on. I weigh just 5 pounds and I’m a Shih-Tzu and Poodle mix, and my

buddy, Grayson, is a Poodle and weighs 3.4 pounds. I am the more gregarious one and I love everyone I meet! When I first meet new people, I can be a little shy, but I

warm up very quickly. We are both 10-years-old and full of life! If you have room in your heart and home for us,

please contact Carolina Poodle Rescue at 864-489-3559.

My name is Lady. I'm a 3-year-old Lab mix who is

looking for my forever home. If you made a New Year's resolution to exer-cise more, I'd fit right in. I

have a lot of energy, love to go for long walks and I es-pecially love the water. I've been spayed and I'm up to date with all my vaccina-

tions. I love being around people and other non-

aggressive dogs, but cats get me a little excited - I should probably be in a

home without them. If you'd like to meet me and see for

yourself what a great dog I am, call 910-271-3101.

I'm Trooper and I'm super friendly, always looking for

a friend. I get along great with

other dogs and all people. This sum-mer I spent some

time at a play ground where I had a lot of fun

going up and down the ladders - I even went down the slide. I'm neutered and up to date on my vaccinations.

They think I'm a Pit and Lab mix and at 6-months of age, I weigh just under 60 pounds. I'm good on a leash and have learned my basic commands. Everyone tells me that I'm really handsome (my brindle coat doesn't show very well in pictures). Please call 910-271-3101

to set up a meet and greet with me.

Ready for a great compan-ion to take on walks or snuggle on the couch? My name is Betty and I am a 5 to 6-year-old, 38 pound, Corgi and Shep-herd mix who is healthy,

spayed and vaccinated! I am a sweet girl but I have a couple of challenges. I am blind in my right eye

and I have limited vision in my left eye. I get a little nervous in new settings where there are lots of other dogs or stairs. I do like hanging out with my foster brother and little dogs, too! I really

want a home to call my own before the holidays - would you consider allowing me to be part of your family? Call

910-302-7290 if you are interested in meeting me!

My name is Mama Kitty and I was found as a

stray with my 2 kittens. A nice lady took us in and got us all spayed and

vaccinated. I am a young lady who is

litterbox-trained and very sweet. I love attention and will keep your

lap warm during the winter! Could you please make my New Year very special by making me

part of your family? Please contact Leslie at 910-352-5150 for more information.

My name is Kelsey and I am a fantastic middle aged dog. I am quiet and super easy. I do

great with other animals and with older kids, too. I walk well on a loose leash and am house-trained. If you want a

turn key dog, I am your girl. I am undergoing heartworm treatment and there is no addi-

tional cost to my adopter for this expense. However, I am raising money to help Adopt-An-ANGEL with my medical bills. Please come see me at Petco every weekend. I am midsized at about 40 pounds. For

more info or to adopt me, please call 910-392-0557.

My name is Arlo and I am a gifted dog. I am amazing! I am super obedient, house-

social skills. I am the kind of dog you can toss into a dog park with unknown dogs and I’ll play nicely. I am really healthy, too. I am up to date on all my shots, heartworm negative and EVEN had a negative fecal. I am super smart so I might just keep you on your toes. I am midsized at about 50 pounds.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is

Running Out! My name is Gracie (A014820) and I’ve

been living at the shel-ter since November 17!

I hope someone will decide to take a ride to the shelter to meet me. If they do, they’ll find a very sweet, obedient and well-trained girl

waiting! I was found as a stray, but it appears as though someone has taught me a few

things in my past. I can sit on command for treats and I keep my kennel very clean.

I use the same spot every day to answer nature’s call which suggests I’m house-trained or would be easily

house-trained. I’m just 2-years-old and a complete sweet-heart. It would be great if my new home had dogs only as we’re not sure how I’d be with kitty cats. Won’t you please take the time to meet me? Dogs arrive at the shelter every day and there’s just not room enough for us all. My adop-tion fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming and 30 day flea/tick treatment. The shelter is open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also

open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more informa-tion, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-

Hi there, my name is Laney! I’m a

female Black Mouth Cur and I’m just 1-year-old. I am a sweet girl

who is friendly with kids, other dogs and I don’t mind cats. I can be a

little shy at our first meeting, but I

warm up quickly with a few treats

and I love to play. I easily sit on com-mand and am al-

ready spayed, vac-cinated and on

heartworm preven-tion. I was adopted from the shelter as a puppy and was

recently returned due to the family’s lifestyle. But I’m sure the right person or family is out there waiting for me!

There’s no doubt I’ll be a great family companion for any-one who wants a loyal, loving, fantastic dog. Come on over

to Pender Humane Society and let’s get to know each other! For info, call 910-259-7022.

Hi there! We are Jack and Jill, two adorable kittens waiting to be

adopted. I’m Jack, an orange Tabby, and this is my Calico sister, Jill. We were found outside by a very nice lady who took us in and cared for us until we were ready

to come to the New Hanover Humane Society. We are very happy living indoors-only and we’ve discovered that we love toys! We also like the

vacuum, imagine that! Dogs scare us, so our new home should be dog-free. As for our health, we are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We are quick to purr and easy to

love, so hurry on over and adopt one (or both) of us! For driving directions or

more information, please call the shelter at 910-763-6692.

College Road in Wil-mington to ‘Meet and Greet’ the wonderful doggies avail-able for adoption through Monty’s Home. Every one of these dogs is being trained to sit, stay, walk on a leash, potty outside, and lots more, by inmates at local correc-tional institutions through the “Pawsitive Partners Prison Program”. These dogs, all named after musical instru-ments, will graduate with diplomas to show that they’ve successfully completed training. You’ll be adopting one very special, educated dog! For more information, please call 910-297-1338, email [email protected], visit the website at www.montyshome.org or ‘like’ them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/montyshome.

Paw’s Place Needs Volunteers “It takes a village” -do you recognize that phrase? Yes, it takes a village to run Paw’s Place. They need vol-unteers and lots of them. Volunteers are the heart of Paw’s Place and are appreciated for their strengths and con-tributions. There are many different ways that you can offer assistance. Ways to help at the kennel include dog walking, socializing, property maintenance, repairs, laundry, photography, and cleaning kennels. Ways to help outside the kennel include Meet & Greets, publicity, fundraising, social media, graphic arts, and event planning. So if you find yourself wanting to help make a change in a homeless dog’s life, consider volunteering for Paw’s Place. For more information, you can contact [email protected] or fill out an online volunteer application on their website, www.pawsplace.org.

Adopt-An-ANGEL Seeks Volunteers Do you have some spare time? Would you like to help Adopt-An-ANGEL find homes for homeless animals? They are looking for some energetic, responsible, com-mitted, passionate people to help out at adoption fairs. They hold adoption fairs every Saturday and Sunday at Petco on South College Road in Wilmington from 10am to 6pm. Volunteer shifts generally run from 10am to 2pm or 2pm to 6pm one day on the weekend. You can sign up weekly so come when you can. It does require some manual labor such as lifting cages, cleaning cages and walking strong dogs. There are also a few weekly shifts open for cage cleaning at various pet stores throughout the week and some transport options, too. It can be very meaningful and rewarding to help a homeless animal find its forever home. For more information, please call Art at 203-994-3765. You may only be one person, but you can be one person who makes a difference. Life is too short, do stuff that matters!

Hi! My name is Pilgrim (A075457)

and I’m a fascinating young lady. Life

hasn’t always been easy for me, but now I’m looking forward to a future that is bright and promising. I’m a 3-year-old Pit Bull mix and I weigh in at the nice size of 40

pounds - not too big and not too small,

just right! The volun-teers enjoy spending

time with me, they say I’m a wonderful

girl who walks nicely on a leash when we go for strolls along the grounds. Won’t you come meet me? My adop-tion fee includes a physical examination, heartworm test, rabies vaccination and spay surgery - wow! For driving directions or more information, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Adam's Folly Pet Boarding,

Bolivia, NC. Thanks!

If you’d like to add a sweet and gentle

4-legged friend to your family, I’m your girl! My

name is Roxy (A076329) and I am just a lump of sugar with nothing but love to give everyone I meet. All I want is to cuddle with you, take

naps and keep you com-pany as we go through life together. I am a fe-male Labrador Retriever

mix, 7-years-old and already spayed. I weigh in at 103 pounds, but my heart is the biggest thing

about me. I went to an adoption fair recently and behaved beautifully around the children who came up to me and the dogs I met. Adopt me and you’ll be making a great choice!

For more info, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in loving memory of Maya and Meow. No one can ever

love you like a rescued pet.

We are all from different Breed Rescues. Please read our stories!

Breed Rescues

GREAT DANE RESCUE ALLIANCE

Provocatively posed before a bright red hydrant, grinning broadly in impish delight, is me - wide-eyed and wonderful Willy. This picture-perfect personification of the fabled American Gentleman breed is 22 pounds of pure loving affection. I get along wonderfully with people and other dogs and even chickens

-- cats are currently a question mark. I love playing with toys, especially chewies, and going out for walks. I’m leash-trained, house-trained, and basic obedience-trained. As a snuggly, low-energy Boston, I will fit perfectly into either an

active or a less active home. To adopt me, send an email to [email protected] or call 828-778-2045.

I’m Bianca, a 3-year-old spayed girl who was res-cued after being hit by a

car. I had surgery to repair my broken right front leg and rehabbed in foster

care. I’m a sweet girl who is eager to please and

loves to be with humans. I get along with most dogs - I can be a bit jealous and am currently at odds with

one of my foster sisters because of this! I love to spend the evenings snuggling in the chair on my human’s lap and nap-ping! I’m a very easy girl who is house-trained, vaccinated, and what you’d call a pocket Boxer at 43 pounds! For more info, call 910-799-5638, email [email protected] or

visit us online at www.carolinaboxerrescue.org.

My name is Mickey and I'm an 18-month-old Great Dane with a gorgeous mantle coat! My foster mom tells me I'm a very beautiful

girl and photos don’t do me justice. I have done very well with house-

training and haven't had an accident in quite some time. I love to chew

on antlers and dog bones and enjoy playing with the male Dane in the house. I'm very smart and I know

sit and stay, and will sit and wait for my food until you tell me “go ahead.” I would love to have another furry brother to

play with. Do you have what I'm looking for? Contact 704-559-4121 or [email protected].

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

My name is Harley and I’m a 4-year-old, male mini-Schnauzer

who is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered. I was adopted for 2-months, then returned. I really am a sweetheart and no one can

understand why they returned me! My original owner became too ill to keep me and it was her last wish that I be adopted into a

loving home. I’m lonely and I need someone who will open their home and heart to me soon. Present this ad for a $50 discount! To fill out an

application, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. Please call 919-723-7145 if you need an application mailed

or faxed to you.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

My name is Annabelle and I’m an extraordinary lady Hound of a certain age...I might add. I love naps and any and every-

body. I’m very sweet and cannot wait to meet you. My foster mom has gotten me all spruced up

so now I can begin the search for my forever home. I am current on vaccinations and I’ve already been spayed.

Please call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue to find out more about me today. Could you be the one I’ve been looking

for? Just ask for me, Annabelle. For more info about adop-tion and how to make me a member of your family, call 919-

708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short on foster homes! If you have ever thought

about fostering, contact CBHR for more details.

My name is Louie and I’m a ma-ture Boston Terrier guy who is

indeed a sweetheart! My foster mom says I’m well-behaved,

calm, sweet, a great leash walker and not much of a barker. I like to

curl up really tight and snuggle against my people and I’m a very

smart boy. I’m house-trained, crate-trained and good with other dogs. If you think you can give

me the loving home I so deserve, please fill out an adoption application. I will be reviewing all of them. For more info,

please contact CCBTR at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. Visit us online at www.ccbtr.org where you can find

our adoption application.

My name is Domino. I’m a 6-year-old male cat who is not so happy being in a cage. My human dad died, my human mom lost her home, and now I'm here at the CAT Adoption Center at Petsmart. It’s all pretty scary for a cat who's only

known a loving home! In fact, it's so scary to me in this cage that I spend most of my time here hiding. Won’t you please consider adopting me? Everyone says I'm incredibly sweet and that I deserve a forever home. I’m already neutered,

vaccinated and litterbox-trained. All I need is you! Call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 if you’d like more info. I’m

also at Petsmart in Wilmington seven days a week.

I am sponsored by ECM Corporation. Thank you!

Hi there! I’m a little girl who was named

Speckles because of my spots. We think I

am a Spaniel/Lab mix, but no one is

really sure what I am mixed with. I sure do have pretty markings! The other thing about

me is that I am on the small side. Of course, I’m still a

puppy at heart. I’m a little shy at first, but once I get to know

you I come out of my shell. I’m new to the

kennel so we are working on my socializing and

other skills. Come on out to Paw’s Place and visit with me – I could be just the dog you are looking for! We are open

every day from 9am until Noon. You can also call 910-845-7297 for more information!

I am sponsored in loving memory of Grace Harrington.
