Cleanpass offers a new nationally recognised 3 day program developed around Irish hygiene and infection control standards. The training has been developed specifically for support staff working in public and private healthcare facilities around Ireland. The concept is designed to mirror the hugely successful “Safe Pass” in the construction industry which has succeeded in standardising knowledge and training of all staff working in construction.

The national recognition of Cleanpass training comes from its FETAC Accreditation at Level 3. All participants who successfully complete their Cleanpass training receive a FETAC Level 3 Certificate along with their own unique Cleanpass ID card.

Microfiber vs Cotton

Microfiber Studies published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) show that

microfiber with 0.37 micrometer diameter was removes up to 98% of bacteria and 93%

of viruses from surfaces using only water (no chemicals). In comparison, traditional cot-

ton cloths remove on average 30% of bacteria and 23% of viruses from surfaces. The

reason for this is in the shape of its fibers. Cotton cloths have round particles while micro-

fibre cloths are more complicated. Cotton cloths move particles of dust, dirt, moisture or

grease while cleaning while microfiber picks up such particles.

In November Our Lady’s Hospice Harolds Cross held a presentation ceremony for over forty in-house staff who had completed the Cleanpass training in hygiene skills and infection control. A total of 42 housekeeping attendants, kitchen, laundry, waste and supervisory staff were presented with their Cleanpass ID cards, three laundry and waste management staff were presented with certificates for training and seven staff including all hygiene supervisors on site were presented with Certificates for completing Martello training for supervisors.

Mo Flynn Chief Executive Officer of the Hospice presented the participants with their Cleanpass ID cards and certificates and gave a speech of congratulations to those involved. Also present was head of non-clinical services Barbara Conalty who was responsible for the initiation and co-ordination of the training. The light refreshments provided were a well deserved acknowledgement for all the hard work and dedication to the training. Congratulations

to all involved!

We introduced the course process and the card system involved. The Minister showed huge interest in this area of service delivery. We were delighted to get such positive and encouraging feedback from her. It has been clear from the meeting that matters relating to hygiene within the healthcare sector are very high on the Minister’s agenda.
