PBL on Shapes and Patterns

Driving Question

How can we as architects design a city made up of Shapes?

End Product The end product of this PBL would be a Geo-City; a

city made up of Shapes.

Essential Learning Levels

At the end of this theme children were able to

differentiate between straight and curved line.

identify the Square, Rectangle, Circle, Triangle, Cube, Cuboid, Cone, Cylinder, Sphere.

read and write the names of above said shapes.

list the properties of above said shapes.

identify and complete the pattern.

Entry Event

For the entry event, children watched a movie ‘Shape City’ wherein they discovered that all things are made up of shapes.

Architects

Landscapists Builders

Engineers

Activities Children did various activities while learning about Shapes and Patterns

like:

While learning about straight and curved lines, children did the activity of making straight and curved line with thread.

While learning about properties of Shapes, children did an activity wherein the teacher gave a cue in the form of property of the shape and the children had to identify and pick up the correct Shape.

While planning their Geo-City children made a blue print of their Geo-City on a grid with the help of the teacher.

While learning about Patterns, children made lots of interesting patterns using the Rangometry kit.

Visit by a Town Planner A town planner visited our school and explained what

all needs to be kept in mind when planning a city, how to plan the placing of all the buildings, how a rough model is created and how a blue print, on the basis of which the actual plan works, is prepared.

Worksheets Following were the worksheets which were done while

learning about Shapes and Patterns during the PBL

Culmination Children displayed their Geo-City in the Project Space

area.
