COMPANYWestern Digital (WD) is a global semiconductor manufacturerand data storage expert. It designs, manufactures and sells data technology products, including storage devices, data center systems and cloud storage services.
CHALLENGEWD needed to provide end users of My Passport WirelessPro and My Cloud Pro devices with high-speed access to data from Macs and Windows PCs. Another requirement was to add SD memory cards support to transfer pictures, videos or other creative assets.
RESULTSThe devices work with PC and Mac computers out-of- the-box providing seamless connectivity and improved customer experience.

THE CHALLENGE
My Passport™ Wireless Pro is a high-capacity, mobile storage designed to accompany professional photographers and videographersin the field for easy and wireless offloading, editing and streaming of captured photos and HD videos. The user can quickly and wirelessly transfer images and videos from a compatible camera. Once on the drive, shots can be backed up, viewed or edited with a connected tablet or laptop.
My Cloud Pro Series – a network attached storage (NAS) also designed for creative professionals to edit, save and share production files from anywhere with an Internet connection. The device with up to 32TB storage is optimized to import files from cameras, memory cards and other USB storage with a simple one-touch backup button. The solution by Paragon Software fulfilled the need of Western Digital to make these devices compatible with both Mac and PC – for end users to enjoy seamless workflows and fast data access regardless of OS.

THE SOLUTION
Paragon File System Link (FSL) utilizes a set of cross-platform interoperability drivers. With exFAT drivers embedded into My Passport™ mobile storage, FSL enables the users to directly attach exFAT-formatted storage and instantly transfer or back up their multimedia files – no reformatting required. The wireless mobile storage is compatible with Windows 10/8.1/7, macOS El Capitan, Yosemite and earlier.
The exFAT driver was also provided as a firmware update for the new My Cloud Pro Series NAS. Applied to the NAS device, the driver ensured media streaming in the recognizable format and authentic quality for anyone granted with access rights within the network.
