■ Pharmacist use of a personal digital assistant(PDA) can "improve and support the clinicalinterventions and documentation aspects ofpharmaceutical care" at a reasonable cost, say US-based researchers. PDAs were made available topharmacists at an acute care teaching facility inChicago, US, to document pharmacist interventionsand generate reports for medical staff. The first report,over a 3-month period, exceeded staff expectations,and contained "several thousand interventions,recommendations, automatic substitutions,handwriting clarifications and pharmacokineticadjustments", note the researchers.
