Impact on pupils’ PE and sports participation and attainment

The PE and sports premium funding has enabled the school to hire sports professionals to bring an additional dimension to our PE offering. Coaches from Sports Xtra Reading have provided expert tuition in sports such as football, hockey, basketball, and gymnastics. Two external dance teachers have held regular dance lessons, and a coach from Reading Lacrosse club visited to instruct some of the children in lacrosse.

Participating in these sessions has provided many of our pupils the chance to try new sports potentially not otherwise available to them.

The school held a Rio Olympics themed Sports Fortnight in June 2016 offering the children a fantastic opportunity to try multiple sports not usually featured in a primary school PE curriculum, and to get into the spirit of the Olympic Games. This event was thoroughly enjoyed by our pupils and warmly received by their parents.

Finally, the PE and sports premium funding has provided many positive and enjoyable learning experiences for our pupils, which makes coming to school more exciting. Physical activity also makes the children more focussed on learning when in the classroom.

Sustainable improvements

The school has invested into new equipment for the hall, which can be used for many years to come.

Members of our staff are being trained by Sports Xtra Coaches to provide the school with in-house teaching skills in sports such as dance and gymnastics.

The school is also offering a wider than ever range of after school sports clubs (some chargeable to parents) including netball, hockey, football, athletics and golf to make the most of on the interest generated by our Sports Fortnight.
