Performing Arts offers a wide range of instruction in theory and practice in theatre, performance and other forms of popular culture. Artistic experimentation with body and space; theory-based reflection; and trans-mission into various modes of expression complement one another.

The students learn the individual steps and phases of a production: from the idea, the concept development and choice of material, through research, rehearsal and realization work to multi-media presentations or perfor-mances. Students gain comprehensive skills and com-petencies in, among other things, voice and bodywork, dramaturgy and contextualization.

Performing Arts is a cooperative course of study. The courses are held at five universities which are all located in Lower Saxony. These are, in addition to the HBK Braunschweig (University of Art, Braunschweig); the Leibniz Universität, Hannover (Leibniz University, Hanover); the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover (Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media); the University Hildesheim; and the Technische Universität Braunschweig (University of Braunschweig — Institute of Technology). The choice of courses is therefore correspondingly varied.

As a Bachelor of Arts degree course, Performing Arts can be studied as a main or secondary subject.

And afterwards?

If a teaching position in the subjects performing arts and German or English at a secondary or comprehensive school is the objective, a bachelor’s degree is the basic prerequisite for the subsequent master’s degree and later admission to the preparatory teacher training for schools.

With a bachelor’s degree, other opportunities in applied- theatre fields of activity are also available in child, adolescent and adult education.
