SPC PETROLATUM TAPE SYSTEM

DESCRIPTION : SPC Petrolatum Tapes are a corrosion protection tape system based on a synthetic

carrier fully impregnated with an anti-corrosive petrolatum mass. This coating system is ideal for use when it is not possible to obtain an abrasive blasted clean surface.

ADVANTAGES : − May be applied to a wire brush prepared surface.

− Easy to apply at temperatures ranging from -20°C (-4°F) to 45°C (113°F). − Provides corrosion protection to buried/submerged structures at operating

temperatures up to 55°C (131°F). − Moldable to irregular shaped and complex piping, fittings and structures.

USES : − Exterior coatings for buried piping, fittings and structures in the Oil/Gas industry.

− Exterior coating for use on Municipal water/waste water systems. − Marine application. − Pulp & Paper Industry.

SPC PETROLATUM TAPE SYSTEM APPLICATION PROCEDURE : 1. All surfaces must be cleaned. Remove all loose scale, dirt and any loose coating by

using a wire brush or other suitable method. Ensure the surface is dry. Refer to SSPC SP-2/SP-3 or St 2 of ISO 8501-1.

2. Apply a thin layer of SPC Paste to the entire surface. SPC paste may be applied using a stiff brush or a gloved hand.

3. Apply the SPC Petrolatum Tape around the pipe in a spiral fashion using a 55% overlap or as specified. Use sufficient tension during wrapping to ensure overall intimate contact with the substrate but not over-stretching the tape. On completion of taping, smooth the overlaps by hand to provide a complete seal.

4. On irregular profiles (flanges etc.), use SPC Petrolatum Profiling Mastic to fill voids and cavities which will provide a smoother surface for the Tape application.

5. On flanges, 152.4 mm (6”) in diameter and larger, install SPC Petrolatum Mastic Blankets around the mating flanges such that each blanket overlaps by three inches (3”) to ensure a permanent bonded joint. The Mastic Blankets should be molded by hand to accommodate the profile of the flanged joint, thus ensuring that no excessive air pockets exist prior to the application of the Tape.

PACKAGING : − Roll Length: 10 m

− Roll Width: 50, 75, 100, 150 and 300 mm - Special lengths and width available. − All rolls individually wrapped and packed into fibreboard cartons.
