No pictureIf the television does not switch on, pressthe standby key (located on theremote control) twice. Have youconnected the aerial socket properly?Have you chosen the right system? (p. 7).Poorly connected euroconnector cablesor aerial sockets are often the cause ofpicture or sound problems (sometimesthe connectors can become half discon-nected if the TV set is moved or turned).Check all connections.

Glossary4:3Refers to the ration between the length andthe height of the screen. Wide screentelevisions have a ration of 16:9 whileconventional televisions have a ratio of 4:3.

4:3 ExpandThe images recorded in “letterbox” formatare expanded to fill the entire screen andthe black horizontal bars at the top andbottom are removed.

Active ControlIs a unique, intelligent, and proactive controlsystem, which measures and analyzes theincoming analog signal 60 times per secondto automatically adjust settings for optimalpicture quality.

Component video input (CVI)Supports advanced video input (such asDVD) for superb colour purity, crisp colourdetail and reduced colour noise-surpassingeven that of S-Video!

Colour Transient Improver (CTI)Color signals are processed to bring outsubtle differences resulting in greater depthand enhanced color definition, as color bleedbetween color borders areeliminated. Therefore, there is an improvedcolor definition and contrast withoutdiscoloration or blurring.

Luminance Transient Improver (LTI)A new generation edge-enhancementtechnology which is applied directly to thevideo processing circuit to increase clarityand sharpness at the point of transition fromthe dark to light areas of the image. As aresult there is an increase clarity andsharpness especially between dark and lightareas of an image.

Contrast+enhances the darker portions of the pictureto improve its picture quality.

Personal ZappingA Philips trade marked feature which allowsany combination of favourite teletext pagesor TV channels to be stored in the colouredFavourite Channels/Teletext keys. A total of10 preferred channels/teletext pages of thesame subject or user can be stored in eachcoloured key.

Scan Velocity Modulation (SVM)It is an innovative circuit design to enhanceedge details by varying the speed of theelectron beam. It dramatically improvesoverall definition and contrast without anydiscoloration or blurring.

S-VHS SignalsThese are 2 separate Y/C video signals fromthe S-VHS and Hi-8 recording standards. Theluminanace signals Y (Black and white) andchrominance signals C (colour) are recordedseparately on the tape. This provides betterpicture quality than with standard video (VHSand 8 mm) where the Y/C signals arecombined to provide only one video signal.

SystemTelevision pictures are not broadcast in thesame way in all countries. There are differentstandards: BG, DK, I and NTSC. The systemsetting (p. 5) is used to select these differentstandards.
