PHTLS COMBINED PROVIDER HYBRID COURSE PRESENTED BY: FLIGHT FOR LIFE FLEXIBLE DELIVERY ONLINE COMPONENT WHAT IS PHTLS? The Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course was created in recognition of the need for additional EMS training in the handling of trauma patients. It provides an opportunity to improve the quality of trauma care and has been shown to improve mortality and morbidity rates. This exceptional course was developed by leaders in the field: The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. PHTLS is designed for First Responders, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, physicians, nurses and other licensed health care professionals with ED, ICU, pre-hospital and/or transport experience. The provider course is a “core” course of PHTLS instruction. The length of the course is 16 hours and includes CEUs. Recognition of successful completion is for four years. PHTLS is continuously updated and revised to keep up with advances in the field, ATLS guidelines, and feedback from participants. WHAT DOES PHTLS COVER? PHTLS picks up where other educational programs have left off. The focus is identification, stabilization, treatment and transportation of critically ill or injured trauma patients in the prehospital setting. The emphasis is to provide the highest level of treatment, and stresses the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs, and ensures that trauma patients with significant traumatic injuries are transported to the appropriate facility to effectively and promptly iniate care. PHTLS STUDENTS LEARN TO: Identify the mechanism of injury Recognize life-threatening injuries Interpret signs and symptoms Understand basic pathophysiology Identify and assess a patient with multi-system injury Perform appropriate interventions in the care and management of a trauma patient SKILL STATIONS INCLUDED ARE: Airway Management Patient Assessment Rapid Extrication Spinal Immobilization Pediatric Assessment and Immobilization DATE, TIME AND FEES: Date: Saturday, May, 5, 2012 Time: 0800 – 1600 Location: FLIGHT FOR LIFE – Waukesha/Milwaukee Base 2661 Aviation Road Waukesha, WI 53188 Fee: $190 per student (Includes online course materials, food and NAEMT surcharges.)
