PJMS Dress Code2013-2014
At Palmer Jr. Middle School
• No one has the right to interfere with the learning, safety, or well-being of others.
• The expectation for all students is that you do what is expected, to the best of your ability.
Know the rules!
• Your planner says:– “School is preparation for the world of work. Every
work place has specific dress requirements. Students will be expected to dress in appropriate school attire.”
– See pages 2-3 in your planner for additional details.
• Disciplinary Consequences for Referrals:– Change of clothes to PE attire or “loaners” from Nurse Voran.– Phone call home.– Repeated referrals will be considered insubordination.
Bottoms
• No visible skin above the knees!
• Leggings/jeggings are okay.
• Holes in jeans above the knee are not permitted unless there is no skin visible (leggings, patches, or opaque tights may be worn to cover skin.)
• NO visible undergarments!• NO visible mid-riff!
Tops• Must have sleeves, cap
sleeves, or shoulder covers wider than 2”
• No “A shirts”• Must cover mid-riff• Must cover cleavage• May not be see-through• Will not display offensive
or profane graphics• Will not advertise illegal
substances
Skirts – We have two words for you: three inches.
• Skirts must be no more than 3” above the top of your patella (your knee cap!)
• To make sure your skirt is okay… try the Sticky Note test.
The 3” Sticky Note Test
1. Align the 3” Sticky w/ the top of your knee cap
2. Stand up straight, let your skirt sit where it falls naturally (don’t pull it down!)
3. If the bottom of the skirt touches the top of the sticky note, you’re good!
4. If the bottom of the skirt does not touch, you have a wardrobe malfunction.
5. Try this at home before you come to school - if you need a 3” sticky, see Ms. Berkley.
PE – “Dressing Out”
• For full credit, you must bring appropriate athletic-wear to PE class:
• T-Shirts (not tank tops!)• Appropriate shorts.• Appropriate athletic shoes with
tight laces.
• If you do not have appropriate dress-out gear for PE, you may participate but will only be able to earn a 60% at best for the day – that means you have to give 100% effort for just a D- !
Some final notes:
• Shoes – You must wear shoes at all times; bedroom slippers don’t count as shoes.
• Hats – Only on sanctioned hat days!• Heavy Outer Coats – Are NOT ALLOWED to be
worn to class.• Backpacks – MUST be kept in your locker until
the final bell of the day.• Hoodies – Hoods down, please.• Bandanas – Nope. (Not anywhere.)
