Greater Sekhukhune District’sdraft IDP/Budget for 2010/2011

During the past week the Mayor of Greater Sekhukhune District Municipalityexplained the draft budget of the district to communities, interest groups, mining housesand traditional leaders in the various local municipalities at consultative meetings.

Councillor Mogobo David Magabe visited Praktiseer on Monday where the budget wasdiscussed at the CN Pathudi Ca,mpus of the Sekhukhune FET College.

As the graphs explain, the total bidget comprises about R725,5 million rand, while thecapital budget amounts to R363 million and the operating budget about R362 million, meaning that the money to be spent, will be split almost equal between the two budgets.

The district major income is still from external sources such as grants from othergovernment spheres. The graphs show clearly that a massive amount will be spent onwater throughout the district municipality.

Councillor Magabe also announced that tariffs levied for servives rendered by thedistrict will rise with an average of 11 percent. He explained that the purpose of tariffsare to recover the actual costs of the rendering of services.

If a service is rendered at a loss, cross subsidation of such loss by another service willbe necessary. This will place a burden on the tariff structure of the other service.

Despite the rains, quite a number of people turned up for the meeting.

All Gold Tomato Sauce750ml

1908 was the year that saw the launch of a South African icon, All Gold Tomato Sauce. The secretand unique recipe was brought to SA by Scottish Chemist John Semble for production by H Jonesand Company, a jam manufacturing company in Paarl. From humble beginnings in the WesternCape this well-loved product was originally manufactured by lowering muslin bags filled withherbs and spices into pots of ripe freshly crushed tomatoes. In 1927 it became the OK Bazaarsbest seller. In 1947 on the first visit to South Africa by reigning monarch King George VI, Queen Elizabeth andPrincess Margaret, they were treated to the delights of All Gold on the Royal Train. By 1959 massproduction of All Gold Tomato sauce commenced in Paarl and Langlaagte.1975 saw the first print communication around All Gold’s “Crammed Full” and “Fresh” qualities.1976-1978 Marked the introduction of TV into South Africa and the first “motherbrand” All Goldtelevision commercial. This commercial featured tomatoes literally jumping into a bottle of AllGold Tomato Sauce and strawberries jumping into a can of jam. From 1908 to 1985, 250 million bottles of All Gold Tomato Sauce were sold which was a sufficientnumber of bottles to circle the globe one and a half times. In 1990 the company launched All Gold’s famous giant bottle commercial which featured children“cramming” big tomatoes into a giant All Gold bottle. This ad established the fact that All GoldTomato sauce contains “36” tomatoes. In 1992 All Gold wins Gold at the Monde Quality Awards in Brussels which affirmed the quality ofAll Gold products from a dietary perspective. Expansion was not left behind. In 1993 productioncommenced at a brand new plant in Boksburg. The launch of the new All Gold Hot and SpicyTomato Sauce variant also took place in that year.In the year 2000 All Gold Pasta Pronta was launched - the 4 tomato based variants were the firstready to eat pasta sauces on the market. In 2003 All Gold launches 4 new cream based PastaPronta variants - extending the brand beyond tomatoes with great success.Another out-of-the-box idea came in 2004. All Gold launches its 500ml upside-down “squeeze”tomato sauce which was a significant milestone for the brand. Launched in state-of-the-artpackaging that featured a convenient, non-breakable and easy-grip bottle with a non-drip valveand no-mess lid, loyal All Gold consumers were now able to take South Africa’s favourite tomatosauce everywhere. Highest market share ever achieved on All Gold Tomato sauceat 76 % value and 67% volume.During 2007 All Gold was voted as one of the Top 10 Brands in South Africa. Do you want your child to receive quality education?Do you want your child toreceive individual attention made possible by small classes?Do you want yourchild educated in a safe environment close to home?If you answered ‘Yes’ toany of these questions, then this article is definitely for you.

Greendale College, a new independent school is being planned for thenear future in Burgersfort. The new school will be established at the entranceto the 520 hectare eco-residential development on the banks of the SpekboomRiver. The development comprises Motaganeng and Spekboom River Estatesand offers an ideal location for an independent school aimed at serving thegreater Burgersfort community.

Sandra van Papendorp, Educational Director of the proposed school, saysthat the focus will be on providing high quality education to local learners Theintention is to have small classes to allow for individual attention. Initially sheand the rest of the Board intend opening a Secondary School and later as thedemand dictates they will establish the Primary and Pre-Primary Phases.

The school will become a member of ISASA, the controlling body ofindependent schools in South Africa. The proposed school will apply forUMALUSI accreditation and will ultimately write the IEB matriculationexamination which is internationally recognised.

The religious ethos of Greendale College will be firmly based on theChristian tradition, embracing universal values and in the light of this firm butfair discipline practices will be adhered to. However, children of all faiths ornone will be accepted.

Primary objectives of the school would be to equip learners to meet theacademic demands of the rapidly evolving information age, together withproviding a sound foundation in values that are being rapidly eroded by ourmodern civilisation.

The school will serve the community of Burgersfort by employing wellqualified educators who would in turn provide quality education. The emphasiswill be on language proficiency as well as mathematics and natural sciencebut pupils will also be exposed to the arts.

Although the majority of Independent Schools in South Africa are Englishmedium schools; a trend has developed where many Afrikaans speaking parentshave opted to educate their children in English to derive the benefits of a privateeducation. Greendale College, however, will consider functioning as a dualmedium institution if there is a great demand.

The intention is to begin operating as a Secondary School offering Grades8, 9 and 10. In the following year Grade 11 would then be offered to the Grade10 pupils of the previous year and in this way the school would evolve naturally, year by year.

This school is for the community. A dream of quality, private education can become a reality in Burgersfort. However, without thecommunity and its support, Greendale College cannot exist and this dream cannot be realised. How can you, an interested member of the community assist:

Ms Olygy Moraba said: “No, I don’tbelieve the statistics. They are notdoing enough. It does not help to goto jail these days. It is just for asecond and then you are out. Shelly and Godfrey Tebelo said: “Wedon’t think government is doingenough, but they are trying. At ourplace where we live in Riba Cross, people are hi-jacked every Saturday. The people are trying to do their bit,but we are afraid that if you reportthe crime they will be back to hurtyou”.

Me. Yolanda Weulbach sê: “Nee, ditmaak nie saak wat die regering doennie, tot die doodstraf nie terugkomnie, sal daar nie minder geweld weesnie. Mense doen nie genoeg nie.Hulle vererger dit net. By haar isChané en Luan.

Ms Sarah Mkhondo said: “I believethe statistics, they tried. I think weare involved. I’ll tell the police if I seesomeone doing crime”.

Mnr. Marius Saddler sê: “Ek glo niedie regering doen genoeg nie. Hoekan mense die polisie vertrou metalles wat ‘n mens van hulle hoor.Mense leef by mekaar verby. Wil onsregtig by die pogings betrokke raak?Ek dink mense is te bang”.

Crime, and especially serious and violent crime is something that happensall too often. It is a favourite subject in many social circles and oftenpeople feel that the government is not doing enough to protect them. Theother side of the coin is that there are certain structures such asCommunity Policing Forums in which residents can become involved andplay a role. We asked readers whether they believe SAPS statistics aretrue reflections of crime and if government is doing enough to keepeveryone safe, but also whether we are involved enough.
