Notes that you can expect to see this week: Christmas Carnival Reminder

Notes in the last week: Stage 2 Dubbo Excursion Itinerary

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion Itinerary

WEEK 5 TERM 4 Commencing Monday 11th November 2019

We have reached what will quite possibly be the busiest period of another non-stop year at Parkview Public School. Week 5 of the new term is best described as Excursion Week, with our major Stage 2 and Stage 3 Excursions set to depart later this week, bound for Canberra (Years 5 & 6) and Dubbo and Wellington (Years 3 & 4).

It is also the week when we commence our month long learn to swim programs, with students in Kindergarten and Year 1 spending the next two weeks enjoying learning opportunities at the Leeton Pool. Students are reminded to bring towels, sunscreen and swimming attire on a daily basis! Last week was quite an incredible week in our community, with a range of outstanding achievements for our children. It all started on Wednesday and Thursday with the NSWPSSA Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Kobe O’Callaghan, Angel Florijancic, Blake Heath and Jacobby O’Connell all represented Riverina at the event with some incredible performances produced by our students. A full re-cap of their achievements can be found in Talking Sport. On Friday, also in Sydney at the Headquarters of the ABC in Ultimo, Montana Nardi represented at the NSW Finals of the Stage 2 Premiers Spelling Bee. It was an extremely long day of competition with Montana becoming the youngest ever finalist at the event. Despite this, Montana did herself, her family and her school proud by progressing all the way to the fourth round of the competition before being eliminated, finishing inside the top half of competitors in the competition. Montana received great feedback from Spelling Bee Officer Desiree Lane from the Arts Unit who was very impressed with Montana’s efforts at such a young age, reminding us all that there are over 170,000 students in the competition state wide and Montana made her way to the top 25! We congratulate Montana on an incredible achievement! The entire Parkview community is proud of your efforts! Closer to home on Friday saw the annual running of the Leeton Community Of Public Schools Chess Championships. Parkview has a fine tradition in this event and so it was again that our finest tactical minds represented us with distinction. In total, Parkview a 12 strong representative team at the event, with two of our students, Charlie Watson and Jaden Roode contesting the final. In a gripping match up, Jaden came out on top to be crowned LCOPS Chess Champion for 2019. For Charlie, it was the third consecutive year he has finished in the top 3 at the event which is an outstanding achievement! Congratulations to all of the Parkview students who represented our school at the event. There is much more to consider as we approach the half way mark of the term. Please consider the following as you plan your week: Sound Scouts As most people know, one of the most important elements of a child’s learning centres around their ability to hear. An estimated 1 in 10 children suffer from hearing loss which when left undetected can lead to speech, learning and behavioural problems. The Sound Scouts App is now available free to test all Australian school-aged children today! Later in the newsletter there is a flyer outlining more information about the ‘do-it-yourself’ program, or alternatively if you do not feel confident doing it, we can arrange it to be done for you at school. If you are reading this electronically, you can click on the link below to view a YouTube clip linked to the program. https://youtu.be/AcrGaNtOXtM

All interested community members are encouraged to attend this meeting. Class of 2019 Christmas Toy Drive Our Year 6 students are again hosting their Annual Toy Drive, hoping to add a little Christmas Cheer to the lives of families who need it across Leeton.

The Class of 2019 asks that if you can spare something for families less fortunate than yours, that you leave it under the Christmas Tree in the School Administration Office Foyer, from where they will be collected, wrapped and re-distributed by our Year 6 students later in the term.

Thanks in advance for your support of this initiative. Parkview P&C Christmas Carnival A reminder as advertised on the front of the newsletter, the Parkview P&C Associatin will host its annual Christmas Carnival on Friday, 22nd November from 5pm-7.30pm. Kindergarten 2020 Transition Kindergarten 2020 Transition continues this Wednesday from 11.30am-1.45pm. Parents who are yet to return their enrolment forms for 2020 are asked to do so this week if possible so we can finalise our planning for the start of next year around our newest students! We encourage all parents and carers who are yet to register their children to do so in the coming couple of days ahead of the next day of transition. If you do not have a registration form or have misplaced yours, please contact the school’s Administration Office to secure your copy. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns in relation to this process. School Banking School Banking day is Tuesday! Children are encouraged to bring their bank books to the school and leave them in their class banking folder for processing. These books will then be returned to students on a Wednesday in preparation for the following week. Students who are new to the school or wish to commence banking for the first time can contact the office to receive a pamphlet explaining the start up phase for individuals. It is a great financial literacy program so why not consider exposing your kids to the valuable skill of saving at a young age?
