Achieving the most coveted handshake of the Immaculates is the perfect gift the fourth class cadets could ever receive for Christmas. After surpassing all the rigors of plebe hood, their perception about the Yuletide season suddenly change. They have become less selfish individuals than ever before. And they could not barely notice the abrupt metamorphosis they had undergone from civilian character into refined individuals.

However, most often than not, the Upperclassmen are misconstrued by the public on the process of molding the plebes. But behind everything, do they recognize the sacrifices in preparing the plebes for greater responsibilities? There are instances that the Upperclass Corps may forget to attend to their personal lives because of the training-related problems involving the plebes.

The Upperclassmen have assumed the responsibilities of being the guardians to look after the needs and welfare of the Fourth classmen all throughout the training. Eventually, the Upperclass Corps have become the medium to realize the dreams of their Underclassmen in becoming part of the Public Safety Service.

At the end of the day, the most rewarding gift is the sense of gratitude and appreciation to the unrecognized efforts of the people behind the success of LAKANDULA Class of 2015.

We hope our Lord grants the best gift for all of us and may this be our best Christmas. Happy Holidays!

Recognition is the most coveted and memorable moment for every cadet in the Academy. It is the due

acknowledgement given to the lowest members of the Corps of Cadets for surpassing crucial stage before the so-called culmination – “ Recognition Rites”. Prior to the big event are the periods of unrelenting scrutiny and pressures endured by the plebes from the Upperclassmen.

The Kalasag magazine is published six times a year by the Cadet Corps Philippine National Police Academy with editorial address at Corps Publications Office, Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda, Silang, Cavite. The boy

turned to a man and was able to buy all those things including the dream house of his own. He also had bounty of food on the table for “Noche Buena”. But when he looked up at the Christmas tree that he bought, how he wished that he still had his mother to share it with as well as his father who was left in the province. He asked himself, “do they have the same food that I am eating?” for he is not sure if they have the same things that he has. In the end, I realized that the visionary boy turned to be me. The lesson is to share your blessings with those who are in need. For success will be useless if you have nobody to share it with.

It is indeed an achievement for the members of the Lakandula Class of 2015 to receive a blessing from the Upperclass Corps, the hankered handshake. After seven months of struggles in adjusting to the agonizing sphere of the regimented way of living, the moment has come for this batch of future leaders to regain their briefly lost privileges. Sweat and blood have become their investment in climbing the steep path towards being recognized.

Lakandula Class of 2015, my heartfelt congratulations to all of you. Now that you are recognized, prove to your superiors that you are worthy of their handshakes. And as you regain the privileges of going out of the Academy, do not conform to the adverse attitudes of those who have fallen in the fangs of immodesty. Always keep your feet on the ground. If there is one thing that you must be proud of, that is the discipline and integrity you have acquired in the Academy.

Jesus Christ, who was crucified and died to redeem our sins and transgressions. By it, we are reminded of how great is the love and compassion He bestowed to all of us. He gave it to all of us equally without exceptions and in no denominations- the high and the low, the rich and the poor who by one Almighty parent are to live, aid, love and protect each other.

The season also offers us time to show our gratefulness to the Lord through sharing love and compassion with our fellow human beings, most especially to the needy and less fortunate brothers and sisters. Let us share our blessings to them no matter what the amount of it, be it an expensive or a modest gift, a simple hello or a great smile, a handshake or a tap on the shoulder. Let us also extend our helping hands to others, our understanding and forgiveness to those who trespassed against us, after all its all these which Christmas is meant for.

As we celebrate the Yuletide season, I am very happy that the members of the Lakandula Class of 2015,after surpassing a grueling period of the initial stages of their cadetship, are eventually admitted into the ranks of the Immaculate. To the members of the Lakandula Class of 2015, congratulations, I hope that all the lessons imparted during your past stages were understood, internalized and will be placed into practice by each one of you. See to it that every member of your class is worthy to receive the most coveted handshake of the Upperclassmen. Prove that in the end, you are really a development of the classes ahead of you.

Recognition is the phase of cadetship training that sparks the plebes’ ecognition is the phase of cadetship training that sparks the plebes’ slightest hope of succeeding their dream of becoming distinguished officers in the Public Safety Service. During this time, a new breed

of hope emerges from these young men and women as they enter a brand new chapter of their cadetship. These young men and women had undergone periods of uneasy tasks and challenges which measured their will power and perseverance. Though some stepped back, the rest remained firm and determined to overcome the pressures and rigors of the training. Finally, after months of unrelenting and grueling transfiguration, we have now the best and the brightest cadets of the LAKANDULA class of 2015.

As the year ends, the finish line of hardships of plebes comes to an end. Their recognition marks the day of a new struggle and of a new dawn. Privileges are regained by the worth of their efforts and sacrifices. More responsibilities await them as they continue to traverse the road less traveled.

To the LAKANDULA Class of 2015, it is indeed a success for all of you. May the things being taught to you be instilled into your minds and become part of your way of living. Utilize the knowledge and skills that you have earned since the day you stepped into our Alma Mater. Strive hard to enrich yourselves with wisdom and experiences for these are vital components in your future engagements as future leaders. Develop within yourselves the habitual thirst for excellence since it is not considered a skill but rather an attitude. Never cease to exert efforts in all your endeavors for greater hurdles are still on your way. Be Public Servants and not servant masters.

At this point, I would like to extend my overwhelming gratitude to the PNPAAAI Davao Chapter and to the parents of our cadets from Class 2015 for their irrevocable efforts rendered during the conduct of the recent PNPA Cadet Admission Test held in Davao last October 30, 2011. I highly appreciate the hospitality and the unbelievable gusto to assuage us with utmost comfort while facilitating for the success of the said event. Despite our limited span of stay in the place, the time we have shared had seemed to carry an endless moment worthy to be treasured and kept forever.to carry an endless moment worthy to be treasured and kept forever.

Astory is about a family that went on a picnic by the lake. At one point, their five-year-old son waded into the lake, stepped into deep water, and sank out of sight. None of the adults in the family

knew how to swim, so they ran up and down the shore in panic while the child bobbed up and down and screamed for help. Just then, a man who happened to pass by sized up the situation, leaped into the lake, and rescued the boy. He climbed out on the bank with the child, who was frightened but unharmed, only to hear the mother asked with irritation, Where’s my son’s cap?

Sometimes in life, we focus on small disappointments that cause us to grumble and complain rather than focus on the wonderful things that God has brought into our lives. We even argue with Him about things that comes our way which we thought of as a barrier or hindrance , but we do not even realize that there is greater and more wonderful outcome that awaits us.

Life is full of challenges, do not deal with it negatively. Rather think of it as a voyage over unsettled waves of the sea. Yes, it is an adventurous journey that we are about to win over and deal with ourselves in spite of convoluted and tricky circumstances .We may not appreciate everything that comes our way, but we should be thankful for everything. It may be difficult to be grateful when we lose our job or if our health fails, but we can be thankful that God has brought us in this life and grateful for a life to come.

To the LAKANDULA Class 2015, we give our snappy salute to all of you for making it this far, indeed, you have hurdled another milestones of being refined gentlemen and ladies of the Cadet Corps. For all those hardships that you have experienced, put it in your mind that these are not retribution instead it is one way of bringing you to be stalwart in the course of being future Public Safety Officers.

Do not a person who would always demand for caprices without appreciating the great blessings that come his way. As we commemorate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, let us fill our hearts with joy and contentment by recognizing Christ in the center of our lives.

“Rank has its own privilege” but, it should also be the other way around, “Rank has its own responsibilities.” This is an adage that greatly defines Public Service. To the fourth class men, upon reaching the Recognition rites, you will gradually enjoy the privileges you were temporarily deprived of. Take this is as a gift from the Immaculates in distinct recognition of your character and discipline of managing yourselves to survive during plebe hood. The Recognition Rites remain to be one of the most memorable events in every cadet’s life. On this day, through a simple yet profoundly meaningful “simple handshake” opens another chapter in the lives of the newly recognized cadets. This rite is a passage that ends numerous pressures and tribulations of the fourth class men.

The Recognition Rites is the ceremony where the plebes look forward to, since this is the time when they will be formally accepted and be recognized as members of the Immaculates.

The said event concluded with a superb Silent Drill performance of Lakandula class of 2015 which was earnestly dedicated to their families, friends and loved ones.

In his twenty years of existence, he seemed to be a sponge, absorbing not only the

aftermath of his murky combats but also the upshots of his parent’s despair when the world baffled him with all its worries, sentiments and insensitivities.

For the rest of his life, his parents in some instances wanted to throw out the white cloth and call for a halt over his infantile works which blew out their heads. Though his parents gave their best in raising him up, they seemed to be frustrated, making them feel like being in the wilderness and null of the things they should have done for his better rearing.

Far from their expectations, he grew up riotously that they almost never knew who their son was. Among his siblings, he was tagged as the black sheep of the family when in fact he had all the attentions and supports of his parents.

The stain was pre-eminent that the labor should be at its best to purge it but it would not be for a day or two, it means a hard way to go. It is hard to tie up both ends of different strings as a magnet to meet with the same poles.

While on the verge of living on it, he realized that his brain was like a scrap every time he resisted the toil of his parents. Every pain reminded him of how he became too closed and narrow minded, how he became pathetic through the years.

He became a tree deprived of bearing leaves, fruits and flowers but now he was on the threshold of bearing some of them. Though he went through extraordinary way just to realize his shortcomings, it was very rewarding that at the green phase of his life, he was able to recover from being dampened by the shadows of his wrong acts.

Currently, he is about to accept the most hankered handshake of his superiors after having been sturdy in leaping the tough domain of plebe hood for several months. And as he regained his briefly lost privileges, he wished to celebrate and to treasure the spirit of the fast approaching Yuletide season as he yielded back to the cradle of his real home – his family.

A day prior to the Recognition Rites, the traditional rolling

of sleeves and opening of collars was held as an earlier manifestation of the Immaculates’ acceptance of the Lakandula Class 2015 as official members of the Upperclass Corps. The Pre-Recognition rites wave the declaration of the “at ease” status to the newly recognized cadets, which also signify restoration of their briefly lost privileges.

Reminding them of the first time they set foot on the hallowed ground of the Academy, the members of Class 2015 underwent the final test of endurance as they once

again performed the traditional eight stationed strenuous physical exercises which was strictly supervised by the Cadet Corps.

At the end of the day, those nostalgia, discomforts and fear of the unknown were eased as they warmly felt the sincere embrace of the Immaculates.

Before spending their precious time with their loved ones, the PNPA family spent a day with the less fortunate people in nearby places in Laguna and Cavite on this long

treasured tradition during Yuletide season, the Cadet Corps has shown their compassion by extending help to the needy, expressing their generosity and charity through sharing their blessings they have been receiving all throughout the year.

Thousands of visitors, mostly children, flocked around the hallowed ground of the Academy to participate in the different activities prepared by the cadets.

Each company showcased their impressive, colorful and gigantic booths where they held a lot of surprises for their special guests. In every booth, cadets presented gifts, organized games and provided

entertainment to make the guests feel the genuine spirit of Christmas.

At the end of the day, the Cadet Corps and the PNPA family were able to draw sweet smiles

from everyone. This event attains the objective of the Academy to develop the Cadet Corps on how to deal with the public and to reach the community in the most meaningful way.

Christmas is one of the most meaningful events celebrated by cadets of the Philippine National

Police Academy. The traditional lighting of the Giant Star manifests the start of the big celebration. The said event clearly reflects on how the Cadet Corps devotedly strengthen their Christian faith. The spirit of Christmas remains in the hearts of these young men and women as they continuously fulfill God’s purpose as future Public Servants.

The public wonder on how the Cadet Corps uniquely celebrate the Christmas season. Most people perceive that cadets are regularly focused on parades, drills and ceremonies. It is unknown publicly that the Cadet Corps has a special way of commemorating Christ’s birth. Every 1st day of December, the Cadet Corps symbolically illuminates the Giant Star which extremely kindles the spirit of Christmas.

The Giant Star was constructed in 1993. The star was previously made up of hollow materials until such time that the PNPA Kabalikat Class of 1998 reconstructed it into a 42.05-feet-tall and 40-feet-wide star, occupying the heart of the Academy. Embellished with 235 bulbs of luminous colors, the Giant Star surely enthralls the spectators and beholders because of its beauty and grandeur.

It towers the sturdy trees of the camp, adjacent to the Main Guard Room and the 1st battalion Female Barracks. In front of it is the dunking pool where its water reflects the vivid features of the star, radiating the mighty name of the Ruling Class. The pentagon centered on it depicts a painting, which signifies the real essence of Christmas season.

Some highlights of the said event are the fireworks display wherein the Ruling Class name shines magnificently, the Lantern making and the Mural inter-company competitions.

As the Giant Star ceremonially lighted, it constantly reminds every cadet of the spirit of brotherhood and camaraderie that must linger within the Long Maroon Line.

Buwan ng Disyembre, buwan ng kasiyahan, pagdiriwang at

pagsama-sama. Buwan ng makukulay at naggagandahang mga ilaw. Ngunit sa panahong ito’y naaalala ko ang pinakamasakit at pinakamalungkot na pangyayari sa aking buhay.

Ipinanganak ako noong Hulyo 16, 1990 at dito nagsimula ang kwento ng aking buhay. Nakatira ako sa isang simpleng bayan ng Sultan Kudarat na may simpleng pamilya at pangarap sa buhay. Tatlo kaming magkakapatid, isang pangarap na babae at dalawang lalaki. Lumaki kami sa isang simpleng pamilya ngunit puno ng pagmamahal at suporta sa mula aming mga magulang. Ang aking ina ay isang guro at ang aking ama ay isang kapitan ng aming Barangay.

Nagkaroon kami ng isang maayos at matatag na pamilya. Subalit ang mga ito’y biglang nagbago nang maaksidente ang aming pinakamamahal na ama. Hindi ko sukat akalain ang mga ganitong pangyayari sa aming pamilya. Ang pagkamatay ni papa ay nagsilbing pinakamasakit at pinakamalungkot na parte ng buhay ko. Ang buong buwan ng Disyembre ay nagsilbing panahon ng pagluluksa para sa aming pamilya. Nagbago ang lahat nang mamatay ang aking ama, Hindi namin alam kung paano magsisimula muli.

Dumaan ang tatlong buwan nang biglang na-stroke ang aking ina dahil sa high blood pressure na halos ikinamatay niya. Ito ang naging sanhi ng kanyang pagiging baldado na parang lantang gulay. Ang kanang bahagi ng kanyang katawan ay paralisado at hindi niya maigalaw. Halos mabiyak ang puso ko sa mga

nangyaring ito. Ilang buwan siyang inalagaan namin na nakaratay sa kama, wala akong ibang magawa kundi panoorin ang aking ina sa malubha niyang kalagayan. Halos mawalan na kami ng pag-asa sa buhay. Ako ay nasa unang taon sa high school nang mangyari ang mga ito. Hind ko maisip kung paano namin haharapin ang buhay ng kami-kami

na lang ng aking mga kapatid. Ngunit ang solusyon sa lahat ng problemang ito ay ang pagharap at paghanap ng solusyon dito.

Minsan natatanong ko sa sarili ko, kung makapagtapos man ako sa aking pag-aaral ay matutulungan ko ba ang aking pamilya? Ako ang natitirang pag-asa ng aking pamilya kaya naman hindi ko dapat bigyan ng pagkakataon ang anumang bagay na makakasagabal sa akin. Sa ikatlong taon sa kolehiyo, nagkaroon ako ng pagkakataon na sa kolehiyo, nagkaroon ako ng pagkakataon na makapasok sa akademyang ito. Naniniwala ako na makapasok sa akademyang ito. Naniniwala ako na isa na ito sa mga paraan sa akin ng Panginoon upang isa na ito sa mga paraan sa akin ng Panginoon upang matulungan ako sa mga responsibilidad na pasan-matulungan ako sa mga responsibilidad na pasan-pasan ko.

About this Column

In the vertical horizon where men and women fade in the gray twilight, some leave their legacy. Some leave their imprinted history for others to follow…for others to emulate. Others live and die in oblivion. But for those who heed the noble vocation of Public Service, they serve and die to live in immortality.

As I watched the candle being lit on the Advent wreath, I could not help feeling the elation and hope which for months have quite abandoned my soul. I thanked God for it, for bringing

my steps on His altar and letting me find these essential comforts I only have in the path I chose to walk through – cadetship.

Christmas for the Cadets

For more than three years of stay inside the Academy, the rigors of the academics and tactics training has confronted us, the graduating cadets of SINAGTALA Class of 2012, along with the trying monotony of the restricted and regimented way of living.

However, the advent of Christmas season spells a renewed hope, determination and vibrancy for each one of us most especially the graduating cadets as well as the Plebes.

Why is that so? Yuletide season will be our last Christmas inside the Academy if we will triumphantly surpass the coming ordeals of the cadetship program next year; while the Plebes composing the Lakandula Class of 2015, will be accepted in the Upperclass Corps comes their Recognition Rites this merry month.

As Agnes M. Pharo, a famous Christian writer, beautifully quotes, “What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”

In time for the Christmas celebration, the fourth class cadets will be recognized and will now enjoy the privilege of going home to their respective family upon recognition. With the simple handshake extended by the Upperclassmen, they are rightly recognized and warmly accepted by the Immaculates.

For the Plebes, it is like a Christmas wish come true. For the Upperclassmen, it is a gentle spark of joy which springs forth from the deep recesses of the human heart, though the face may seem stern and strict from the perspective of a Plebe.

Truly, this is the real essence of Christmas: giving something which delights one’s heart and soul, which in turn, brings back happiness to the giver.

The glo is the unannounced official metal polish of the Cadet Corps Philippine National Police Academy. It is a mixture of metal oxides, emulsifiers and solvents. It is primarily used in polishing and shining the accessories of the cadets. It is applicable on brass, copper, chrome, gold and silver. For best results, it must be shaken well, wiped, rubbed and cleaned and polished to gleaming shine that lasts.

Like the Glo, this column intends to wipe and remove all dirt, stains, residues, blemishes and dregs that tarnish the three cardinal virtues of the CCPNPA: Integrity, Service and Justice. Henceforth, expect that the Glo will always be in the toolbox of the Kalasag to continually keep your buckles shining.

The above passage implies how blessed we are and those people who believe that God’s calling are of diverse forms. We, the members of the Cadet Corps responded to the call by becoming Servant-Leaders; knowing that Philippine National Police Academy is one of the premiere institutions with honest future officers of the Tri-Bureau Service under the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

As Christians, we accept that there are greater things in life than chasing after worldly things. When hard times come, we are not alone and

Without faith, it is really hard to look for reasons behind everything. Without faith, we stop believing, thus, doubt comes in. We need to renew our faith, and find something greater than ourselves to believe in.

Giving, not receiving, brings to full bloom the Christmas spirit. It illuminates the picture window of the soul and we look upon the world’s busy life and we become more interested in people than things.

Christmas is fast approaching. We can feel its presence because of the cold breeze during night time. We can also see those happy people getting busy and creative in decorating their stuffs and putting different Christmas decoration in their home and in everywhere.

Christmas is the time of sharing, people sending greeting cards and giving gifts to their families and friends. And most importantly, the time of love as it is when God has shown His love through the coming of His only son Jesus Christ to mankind.

During Christmas, we expect that we will be receiving gifts from our parents, our Ninong and Ninang, from our friends, and loved ones. Exchanging gifts during Christmas originated from the Ancient Roman tradition.

When Saturnalia, the Romans, exchanged tokens of good luck. Later, it became customary for Romans to exchange more valuable gifts, such as clothes or jewelry.

There is a short story entitled, “The Gift” which I read when I attended my mother’s Christmas party in her office way back 2006.

In the story, it portrays the nature of man to demand too much in life. People tend to crave greater than their basic needs. And when things went wrong, people are easily disappointed and tend to put blames on others.

As a person, we should learn to appreciate the gifts that God has given us. We should be thankful for the gift of life and the gift of love. Likewise, in the spirit of Christmas we should thank those people who had shared their precious time with us.

Personally, I considered that story as God’s message for me to appreciate all the blessings I have received.

Mark 11:24 says, “ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” This verse only assures us that God will generously grant the gift to us when we are fervent with our prayers. A Perfect

Is there a perfect Christmas? It happened four years ago when I

realized that hope was still there, when you do not expect that prayers are actually heard.

I was at the restaurant with my friends, spending fun time and enjoying a Christmas party. I had all my time with them, never thinking of anything that could happen. Until my sister called me telling that my mom was rushed to the hospital because of high fever. She had a very unusual call which made me worry too much.

I immediately left the restaurant and rushed to the hospital. While I was on my way, I was thinking of what would happen next. At that moment, I was very anxious and restless. When I arrived at the hospital, I earnestly hope that they were only kidding. If something might happen, I hope that my Mom will get well soon. I longed for my Dad’s comfort but unfortunately he is out of town. Who will take good care of my Mom? Are we going to spend Christmas without her?

When I entered the room, I was surprised upon seeing my Dad beside my Mom. My sister told me that Mom had already recovered. At that moment, I felt some sort of relief and realized the importance of my family.

Many times I was preoccupied by personal pleasures, I tend to forget my family and my relationship to Him. During those times, I sought for His Divine intervention and sadly I considered Him as my last resort. I have realized that through prayers, I find love, comfort and fulfillment of every special need deep within me. I am so fortunate to have a complete family during Yuletide season.

Misa de Gallo is the Spanish phrase for midnight mass, more literally translated as “Rooster’s Mass”. This novena of Masses is the most important Filipino Christmas tradition. It is the blending of Christian tradition with the harvest thanksgiving of the ancient Filipinos.

This marks the end of the early morning masses and the beginning of Christmas Day which is on the following day. This is also one of the longest and most popular Filipino traditions.

“Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive.” Laughter is a great thing - that’s why we usually hear the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.”

Comedians get a thrill from making people laugh. A comedian develops a unique style, skill, and body of work as an entertainer. In stand-up comedy the comedian recites a fast-paced succession of humorous stories, short jokes called “bits”, and one-liners, which constitute what is typically called a monologue, routine or act.

Mr. Jeff Vasquez a.k.a “Jeff” has been a performer for almost 14 years. Jeff tretches what audience expect from a stand-up comedian. He has witty and incredible jokes that could make anyone burst out loud. “Stand-up comedy is my vocation. I guess I was born to make people laugh”, he claims.

Jeff has already showed his humorous nature as someone who could drive in listeners with his stories and manner of delivering it. “Marami akong naging kaibigan dahil dito”, he explains.

“Chiokla” or Jose “Chiok” Bunag III in real life, entered the world of comedy 17 years ago. Prior to Chiokla’s engagement to showbiz, he was a champion singer. Chiok was the grand champion of MTBs Doble Karaoke singing contest where Chubbylita was also a finalist.

Moreover, Chiokla attracts great audience by virtue of his very confident, cozy and warm delivery style making him one of the top-wanted stand-up comedians in the place.

Are you in a relationship?Jeff: Wala. Single.Chiokla: Complicated. Separated kami with my wife.

How did you get into this business?Jeff: Well, originally singer ako. I used to be in a band group performing here and outside the town. When we were in Japan for a performance, nagkaaberya kami sa gitara. So to avoid dull moments, pumunta ako sa harap ng entablado at nagsalita while inaayos pa ang gitara. Biglang nagtawanan mga audience dahil sa sinabi ko. Nakakaloka, halos three minutes na walang tigil ang tawanan. After nang performance, nilapitan ako ng isang empleyado at binati ako. Nag-offer siya na mag-guest ako sa Bar niya. At dun, tuloy-tuloy na.Chiokla: Singer din ako before. Naging three-time singing champion ako sa isang TV show dati. I started singing in bars and hinaluan ko lang ng mga jokes. Marami ang natawa at eventually I mixed singing and comedy. But now, mas kilala ako as a comedian than a singer pero hindi ko pa rin kinalimutan ang pagkanta.

What does it take to be a Stand-up Comedian?Jeff: Kailangan matalino ka. Dapat mabilis kang mag-isip kung ano ang sunod na sasabihin. Madali kasing mabore and audiences so you really have to avoid na mag-“hang”. Pagnangyari yun, ikaw ang pagtatawanan. Ikaw ang kokontrol sa mood nila at hindi sila ang kokontrol sa iyo.Chiokla: Yes, you must be a fast thinker. Madali lang magpatawa pero mahirap itapat sa mood ng audience. Dapat mabilis kang makapag-isip kung anong level ng pagpapatawa ang gagawin. Dapat fresh din ang jokes, iwasang mangopya ng linya. Dapat may originality.

Apparently most stand-up comedians are gays. Why do you think so?Jeff: Mas comfortable kasi. You may be able to adjust to different personalities without bias. Maiintindihan mo kasi ang mga lalaki. Moreso, ang mga babae. Kung baga neutral ka lng.Chiokla: Mmm… hindi ka kasi basta-basta mahihiya. Kung baga versatile yung role mo. Pwede kang gumalaw o magboses lalaki o babae. It is needed kasi sometimes

Are you the same person on and off-stage? Jeff: Honestly, serious looking ako. Indeed, tahimik lang ako sa labas. If we have just met, you will say I’m a snob. Marami ang naninibago pag kaharap ako sa labas ng entablado. Whatever you see on stage is just my role as a comedian and a performer. Bukod jan wala na.Chiokla: Iba naman ako. Kung ano ako ka-funny on stage, ganun din sa totoong buhay. I always mingle with my friends. Actually, I don’t allow boredom to insist sa paligid ko. In short, I don’t like dull moments.

Aside from being a comedian, what makes you busy?Jeff: We, comedians do our charity. We donate goods and do financial assistance to charity institutions.Chiokla: As Jeff said, we participate in charity works. I also find quality time with my friends and love ones.

How do you deal with criticisms?Jeff: Hindi ko pinapansin ang mga isyung yan. As long as hindi naapakan ang dignidad at pagkatao ko mananahimik lng ako.Chiokla: Ahm.. Pinababayaan ko. Tengang kawali lang. Besides, hindi naman ako ang mapapagod sa mga ganyan. May buhay akong mas dapat kong tutukan at pangalagaan.

Do you have any regrets in life?Jeff: Wala. I’m proud and happy for myself. I feel so fulfilled pag nakakapagpasaya ako nang ibang tao. Though nakakapagod pero worth the effort naman pag napapasaya ko ang mga tao. I think this is my vocation.Chiokla: Hehe.. I’m happy na ganito ako. I feel na blessing ako sa mga tao because I make them happy and napapagaan ko mga problema nila.

How do you celebrate Christmas?Jeff: I use to go on vacation with my friends. Gusto ko kasi during this time makapag unwind and relax and to refresh my self and spirit.Chiokla: With my friends and relatives. Usually, umuuwi ako sa probinsya para magreunion sa mga kamag-anak ko.

If you were Santa Claus, what special gift would you share to others?Jeff: Hehehe.. Well, I’ll give them the gift of love and sharing kasi we find happiness if there is love and happiness will only be true if we share what we have.Chiokla: ahm.. Siguro, the gift of sense of humor para lahat kayang magpasaya nang iba. Kung lahat masaya walang problema.

While many people get fascinated by the feats of these comic performers, those happy faces reveal the truth that what you see is not always what you get. Being a stand-up comedian is not as easy as what we think it is. They stand in a spotlight and make fools of themselves while being heckled by drunks, all in the hope that someone finds them funny.

However, these comedians find way at all means to present the desired performance for their audience. Nothing compensates more for the efforts of these brave performers than seeing these brave performers than seeing their audience laugh and satisfied.

Hi! My name is Jay. It was a bright and sunny day. Everything was so magical. I was a perfect groom for a blooming bride in a perfect wedding. She was standing at the entrance of the church. It certainly would have marked a very important occasion in my life together with my supposedly wife, Maricar. The cozy ambience of the place scented by the fragrance of flower petals scattered all over the place emblemed my everlasting affection for the girl who was to partake in my life during that fateful day.

She walked down the aisle with her hands in her father’s arms as he led his daughter on her way to meet her better half. It was ecstasy on my part winning her heart and taking her in front of the altar to be my wife. I can sense the overflowing happiness

It is still very clear in my mind when I asked her sweetest “yes” for my wedding proposal for her in their very house. feeling this uncertainty? I am happy but I think I’m not yet ready. Something’s bothering me. And that’s for sure! I was afraid that I might just commit a mistake here and cause a further hatred to my dear Maricar. So I ran away. I left her in front of that sacred altar with a heart seriously crushed by my careless decision. Her dreams collapsed and it led to her downfall. What a disgrace I brought to her life!

Ten years have passed and I was able to manage my own life. I got along with my friends but her memories kept on lingering onto my mind. It was then that I tried looking for her. One day, I accidentally saw her at the grocery. She never changed. Not a single difference between the girl that I’ ve known before and the fine lady that I had actually seen at that very moment. I approached her to ask for forgiveness and begged her that we’ll start all over again. She stared at me as if I was a stranger to her. I introduced myself but she told me that she has not known me. I was astonished with what I have heard. I tried

to understand everything. I even went to her place and found out that she met an accident and lost her memory.

As I went deeper to what had happened, I came to know that she never left the church on the day I broke her heart, instead she waited for my return, believing that I would not do such cruelty to her because she believed in my love for her, that I couldn’t desert her. At the end of the day, she could not accept that I’m gone so she ran outside the church and got struck by a vehicle. It was indeed a pain in my heart and I ended up regretting my mistake that took away the bitter memories I gave my lovely woman along with it is

utter any response to her revelations. It took some time when I found myself recalling the first time I came to know her. From the very beginning that I saw her, I know that she is and she was the girl I wanted to be with. And I realized that love would be nicer if we give it another try. Learned from the shadows of past errors, I can say that I have grown mature enough to arrive at decisions that would have made us both happy back to the days when she was mine.

Nevertheless, those are now part of the history of a stronger relationship born out of the aimlessness of the previous one. You see, people are so

I never lost hope and I started courting her once more. I tried to bring back those sweet memories hoping that she might remember me. But my efforts she might remember me. But my efforts were just a handful of waste because she was not really under amnesia. She planned all of these to take revenge. She played fool of me and I was caught unaware of it. I only came to know of this when she begun falling for me for the second time around and she revealed her true intentions of fabricating her story of accident.

I broke down and felt the grudge of my precious love. I was not able to

careless when it comes to handling true love, but this proves that there is indeed love at second sight. And this is the moment when two hearts mastered the hurdles of an everlasting love despite the masks that cover the true meaning of nurturing affection shared between those who deserve it.

by the people holding it.

Once upon a time in a high school, there was a group of friends who are likely do naughty things. They were undisciplined and uncontrollable. If

they want to make this thing happen regardless of the result, those things should happen. Until such time, they have received the consequence of their immorality.

One day, they organized to make water balloons for fun at the rooftop by throwing it to the people they want to hit.

Before they got upstairs, Mandy, their leader, throw one water balloon to one of his colleagues and laughed and others started to do the same.

When they are already at the rooftop, they look downwards to decide whom they will throw the

balloons. First, they saw a mother of their classmate and throw the balloon. “Boom!” It hits the head of the mother. The group of friends, laughed so loud while seeing the angry face of the mother.

Next is the running vehicle towards the parking lot. “Boom!” The balloon hits the front mirror of the driver. Again, they laughed so loud.

Then, they saw their cheerleading team practicing the dance steps near the cafeteria and decided to throw the

balloons to the one they liked. “Boom!--- Boom! --- Boom!--- Boom!---.” And again, they laughed so loud seeing the marks of the bras of the ladies they hit.

As he is going to get another balloon, he saw a stranger in white tuxedo in front of him and asked, “Who are you?” “I’m just one of the people whom you made our beautiful lives end, the stranger answered.” “What? What do you mean? Me? Are you sure?” Mandy followed nervously. “Look and observe

happening to you!” seriously said by the stranger. Mandy cried, kneeled, close his eyes and banged his head to the floor realizing the bad deeds and the lives of the people he troubled.

After a short nap, he awakened and the stranger had gone and saw his friends continuing throwing the water balloons. “Stop! Stop this kind of crazy thing.” Mandy shouted. His friends stopped with curiosity, and Mandy started to throw the water balloons from its container saying, “This crazy thing will trouble many lives, specially innocent lives.”

For everything we do in our lives, we should think it not only once or twice but thrice to ensure you put no one in trouble or risk ones lives. Lives are not games to be played. Lives should be enjoyed by the people holding it. Especially this Yuletide Season, we always do things for enjoyment, but once again, let us think thrice before deciding to do things in order not to put other lives in trouble. This Christmas is an enjoyable season, again, let us enjoy our own lives not to enjoy on others lives.

Seeing the situation, he went back to the stranger and humbly asked, “Why are you doing this to me?” “Why are you asking me? Try to ask yourself why this is

Have you ever experienced a sudden connection of thoughts

that just passed by and came out of nowhere but left a mark on your subconscious mind?

Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines. It starts from the north in the province of Cagayan and ends to the south in the province of Quezon. Just east of Laguna de Bay and to the west as it reaches the province of Nueva Viscaya and also connects with the Cordillera Range. It takes more or less (3) hours land travel from Metro Manila to reach a part of Sierra Madre in Tanay, Rizal. Eager as the saying goes “nothing will beat the heart of a volunteer”, I volunteered to be a part of a delegation that will represent

the PNPA in a PNP PCR campaign that is to join a nature concern activity organized by different huge and popular organization of media, together with us also the different sectors of the government, some private organization, some well-known schools and institution and even some celebrity icon whom we undoubtedly asked for photo souvenirs.

insurgency and other incident alike. No words can describe the breathtaking views that the majestic mountain range of Sierra Madre possesses.

As expected in our very own Filipino Culture, locals welcome their visitors with whole-hearted hospitality, in just a short stay upon arrival, we already made friends to a local and also be very fortunateto be shared some information about how the Sierra Madre served as a fortress for fleeing families during the Japanese invasion. As we wander around the area, deforested portion of Sierra Madre revealed its tragic situation, curiosity pushed me to ask a DENR personnel among our group and he answered a common truth, that the effect on nature we have seen was a 100% man-made cause.

There were no electricity, roads were on off-road condition and obviously, people adapted a simple way of living, curiosity again dictates me to ask a local who happened also to be a forest ranger that guide us on our activity.

Our conversation goes this way, “Sir , may I know your reason why you volunteered to be a forest ranger and how do you manage your boredom here?”. He answered,” I want to help in preserving what is left in our place by serving as a forest ranger and about the boredom you’re talking about, I was born here and boredom is not really a big deal to us”.

Discontented to the answers that I’ve heard, I immediately supplemented my question, “Sir, did you ever consider going to the city and think of someway of helping your place by acquiring a scholastic degree then be a government official and take your concern for your place in a higher level?”, and so he answered, “well, honestly, I did, but eventually I don’t have

the opportunity, besides, if this effort I’m doing now to help isn’t enough and you’re thinking that I’m not part of the solution, at least I’m sure that I’m not part of the problem.” Seemingly offended by my curiosity , I then opted to change the topic by asking, “Sir, uso ba facebook dito?”.

Observing the communities status quo, the local Government of the place were doing their effort to reach even the far flung area by establishing public school for children, medical relief, government organized cooperative to help the local people’s livelihood, integrating the people in protecting the environment and presence of the AFP and PNP for maintaining peace and security and other government projects.

As we journey home, reflecting on the different scenarios I have experienced that day I came up with a significant conclusion, people make their destiny, along with it affecting the cycle of life by their choice.

Another pride of the Long Maroon Line proved his chivalry of bearing the virtues learned from the Philippine National Police Academy as he never turned his back on his comrades who were fiercely attacked by the alleged local community terrorists of Panabo City at Panabo City Police Station last March 19, 2011.

Police Chief Inspector Jay Gacis Dema-ala, a member of PNPA of Tagapagsanggalang Class of 2004, brought honor and pride to the Academy when he risked his life to the alarming incident involving his own police station which was under assault. The surprised attack instinctively prompted him to courageously respond beyond the call of duty.

There were two vans carrying men in Philippine Army uniform who were believed to be members of the Community Local Terrorists. The said lawless elements swarmed the police station and deliberately killed one of the police officers on duty.

In response to the insurgency, the fourteen duty officers of the said police station immediately implemented the camp defense plan and retaliated to the aggressors. One of them constantly relayed the incident to other patrol units including that of PSI Dema-ala’s patrol car. Upon receiving such radio message, PSI Dema-ala and his buddy undoubtedly went to the station to act as reinforcement and defend his police station.

When they arrived at the area, the insurgents eventually released volumes of fire on their initial position, causing a notorious exchange of gunfire. The gun battle lasted for several hours, which

resulted in the untimely death ofPO3 Narciso L. Pakiwag, while PSI Dema-ala and the three other police officers were seriously wounded including two innocent civilians from Panabo City Auxilliary Group.

Such a heroic act as exemplified by our very own alumnus, PSI Dema-ala, is no ordinary scenario experienced by the majority in the police arena. This was indeed an exemplary performance of loyalty to the duty he has sworn to in the name of service. Though the general image of our organization is continually stained, it is highly appropriate to render accolades and recognition to the heroes of our times.

In full recognition of his heroism and gallantry, the Corps of Cadets renders him the snappiest salute. He has unknowingly rekindled the passion for Public Service in every heart of those servant leaders who have pledged to sacrifice their lives for the sake of democracy.

Being vigilant is hard work, and it is a huge part of being a firefighter. You have always kept your eyes open for everyday occupational hazards. They risk their lives each day as part of their job. They are rescuers extensively trained primarily to put out hazardous fires that threaten civilian populations and property, to rescue people from car incidents, collapsed and burning buildings and other such situations.

What is the best advice you can share to your fellow public servants?

Being in fire division does not mean limiting your scope in firefighting. When it comes to safety of the public, it is a must to respond at all cost as possible. Thus, there is a need to be adept in all aspects of skills needed in maintaining peace and safety among the public.

Being successful public servant how would you share your utmost gratitude to our Alma Mater?

As the saying goes, “ang hindi lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan”. Always be humble and never forget your beginnings. The people, places and the institution that brought you up are important factors of your being. Furthermore, never ignore to take advice even from your subordinates for they too have lessons to learn from.

What is your greatest achievement in life?

First, my family is the greatest achievement I have. “Wala na akong mahihiling pa”. Second is the far-reached position I have in Public Safety Service. Being in this service has been my passion ever since, “Pinangarap ko talaga ‘to”.

What problems confronted you in the service?

In the early stages of service, I am often faced with great criticisms and unrelenting scrutiny from those who have come earlier in service. But I took those things as necessary part of my growth as an officer. Eventually, I got use to it. Second, is my frequent encounters with dirty politicians who insistently prey on illegal tactics.

How does it take to be a Medal of Valor Awardee?

First is my faith to God Almighty which played the key factor that drove me this far. Second is my family who serves as my inspiration that rejuvenates me from the stress in work. Dedication to service served as the driving force that leads me this far. I already told myself to be as dedicated as I am since the time I chose to step in this service.

The Corps of Cadets rendered a Recognition Parade for the PNPA “Tagapagtaguyod” Class of 1988 for their achievements in the field of Public Service. The highlight of the ceremony was the turn-over of cash donation amounting to Eight hundred eighty-eight thousand eight hundred eighty-eight pesos and eighty-eight centavos (P 888,888.88) which was handed over by PSupt Ferdinand M Garay, the Class President to PSSupt Nestor M Fajura, Director, PNPA.

After the Recognition Parade, the Silent Drill Exhibition was gracefully performed by the Mandilaab Class of 2014 which made the members of the class and their families amused with the superb performance and precision showcased by the drillers.

It is indeed an honor for the class to be the first batch to be acknowledged through a Recognition Parade. Apparently, distance and demands of their work have never been reasons for the class to be reunited, instead, it served as their motivation to unanimously strengthen their advocacy to be an exemplar of the Long Maroon Line.

The Philippine National Police Academy achieved an astounding hundred percent passing rate from the recently conducted Criminology Licensure Board

Examinations in Manila and Baguio City last October 22-24, 2011.

The academic competence of the Academy was once again proven as Cadet 1C Merben S Laborera, Cadet 1C Edward B Castulo, Cadet 1C Samuel B Mangetag Jr, Cadet 2C Albert M Carbungco, Cadet 2C Jaime T Immadpang Jr, Cadet 2C Maryanvi A Maramag, Cadet 2C Emerson D Palomares, Cadet 2C Jansen Ohrelle F Tiglao, and Cadet 3C Patrick D Castro gave a remarkable perfect passing rate of 100%.

It is indeed an honor for the Academy to have cadets the best licensed Criminology students from the entire Philippines as PSSUPT Nestor Monton Fajura, Director of PNPA, once pointed out in one of his speeches during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony.

“Let there be light”, these powerful words uttered by the PNPA Director, PSSupt Nestor Monton Fajura signaled the start of the ceremonial lighting of the trees last December 1, 2011 at Camp Castaneda, Silang, Cavite. The current PPSC President Atty. Ruben Platon also graced the ceremony together with his predecessor, Dr. Margarita Cojuangco who did the honor of pushing the button to illuminate the elaborately decorated trees. The corps of cadets together with the PNPA uniformed and non-uniformed personnel proudly marched around the oval to witness their respective showcase of decorated tree.

Team PNPA embraces victory at SCAA Meet ‘11

Team Philippine National Police Academy embraced another

victory after being acclaimed as the over-all champion last November 25, 2011, defeating the six competing universities and colleges in the recently concluded 6th Southern Cavite Athletic Association (SCAA) at the City College of Tagaytay campus.

Selected cadets from PNPA showed-off their best skills in each sports event and inevitably topped most of the games played.

The Team PNPA brought out the best performance regardless the possible outcome as long as the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship prevail.

and Sportsmanship”, at PNPA Mess hall last November 19, 2011.After the five - day preparation for the Intramural, cadets have showed their

best abilities in each sports event as well as their elegant mascots and the crowd-breaking performance in the Cheerdance competition.

The Hawk Company known as the Marshalls of the Corps, regained their lost supremacy with a wide margin of points from the second placer. As the saying goes, “it does not matter whether you win or lose what matters is how you play the game”.
