Sustainable living in the Slovene hillsides

TheprojectaimstocreateabeneficialenvironmentinthehillsidesofwesternSlovenia.Theemphasis isondensificationofvillages,whichare now scattered around the hills with no logic. Main issue that rose while doing analysis was there is not much connection between people inside the villages or between close by settlements. There is no sense of community, any social awareness or mutual help. The idea behind this project is to create a sustainable extension of an existing village with a strong connection between people. Main focus of the assignment was to create a community building with cultural events, place to have lectures, workshops, movie nights, community gatherings and several other activities. Inside the space there would be a big common space and a communal kitchen where people could have weekend dinner, birthday parties and other events. Everything is designed so that the people would feel comfortable living in the new built environment. Mutual respect and help is a key element in this project.Naturearoundhasseveralbenefitsfortheinhabitants,thereisa possibility to have vineyards, fruit trees and wood from the forest all around. Sustainability is a part as in how the buildings blend instantly with the nature and the natural environment. The buildings are of typical materials, they incorporate traditional way of building, they take into consideration several factors, such as height, area, connection with the nature. An important element is the stone wall which blends in the hillside terrain making the village whole and coherent.

Modern wooden church in the woods of Norway

This project seeks to design a church complex in Hatlehol, Norway, which addresses the needs of the local community, the need to create both a gathering space and a landmark. The church complex includes a mix of non-sacred and sacred functions; community, church and chapel. These will be integrated into the existing site in order to convey an overall gesture to the users of the space. The distinction between these spaces is determined through programmatic function, form, structure, light and materials.The journey though the site guides the users from earthbound to dive. The progression away from daily life, roads, carpark and resi-dences emphasizes a movement towards the divine. Existing vegetation is utilized to create a graduation of tree density to reinforce the sacristy of buildings. Similarly, there is a decrease in openness as buildings become further away from the main road. The church andchapelareenclosed,increasingthesacristybycreatingamoreintimateandreflectivespace.Divinityisalsorepresentedthroughsymmetry and height, in which an increase in height symbolizes a greater connection between human and religion, an otherworldly experience.

Wooden footbridge Competition project 1st. prizeCo-author with Arh Deko studio

Project brief was to design a footbridge over the Suhadolnica river a small city northeast Slovenia. Wood being the traditional and most sustainable, environmentally friendly material to use it was the clear choice for this project. The bridge connects two paths on each bank, one going to the centre of the city and the other going to the main cemetery. Connection is made to get a view of the areas dominants, the church and the castle on the hill. Bridge is places exactly on the viewing lines of the cemetery and the castle. Design is simple, wooden lamellas move from horizontal planks to vertical fence. Dynamic movement of the lamellas creates two bench areas to rest and enjoy the sun and nature around you.Design is simple but beautiful in it’s simplicity. Currently the bridge is in production.

A urbanization strategy of Ljubljana and a Cultural centre for the Šiška neighbourhood

The project includes the urban strategy and organization of Ljubljana and a building in accordance with this strategy. My strategy is based on redevelopment of the old village sites, which would act as sub centres in the modern context.For further analysis I’ve chosen Spodnja Šiška, which already has huge historical value to the city and is a perfect place to create sub centres. The new building combines a library, multipurpose hall and a cafe. The building is wrapped around the existing historically protected building. The two longitudinal buildings of the building added continue the topology of the existing structures. The light sources are completely open sides and a rounded atrium in the middle of the unusually shaped space. The atrium adds extra value to the interior design of the building and is a homely place to read books and enjoy a coffee.

A resting place in the hillsides of Strojna na Koroškem

In the hillsides of Strojna there is a huge need for resting places along the paths, where people could sit, have a drink and enjoy the view. The suggested solution is a series of roadside platforms, which are placed by the country, bike, walkways on the hillsides of Strojna. The composition resemblesastackoffirewoodandcan be realized in a few different, smaller and bigger versions. The structure offers two different ambient, a narrow, focused view inside the stack and an great opened viewing platform on top of the object.

Single-family house in the village of Križevci, northwest Slovenia

In a complex of family houses, how to create intimacy and get great views at the same time was the main problem. My solution was a thick clay wall, made from traditional material from that part of the country. Two walls, made from a mixture of clay and concrete are placed on each side of theparcel,ontopofthewallsafloatingbuildingis placed. Opened up to the south to maximize the view of nature and a small river at the end of thesite.Thelowerflooriscompletelytransparent,being held up only by a central core with an atrium on one side and an open garden on the other.Upper floor is floatingover thewalls, noteven touching them, but hovering over them while looking into the landscape like a huge frame.Simplistic design with considerations of light, views, comfort and user needs.

Collaboration with a manufacturing firm MSM created beautiful stainless steel lighting

Creating decorative lighting and how to detail them so that they can be put into production was the biggest challenge of the workshop. All lighting concepts had to be drawn in detail so that the manufacturer had no problems making them. We have learned how furniture design can be much different then architecture design. All things necessary had to be taken into account. Design in relation to details. Consideration what kind of lighting we want to create, who will be the user, what will it be used to, what kind ofproperties itneeds.Taskproventobedifficult,buthadtaughtus so much.

Reciprocalizer workshop at AAU, creating a complex pavilion placed in an outdoor cafe using complex parametric design and structural analysis tools.

Theworkshopconsistedofanewgraphicidentity,newfloorplanofDessagallery,urbanfurniture,mobileapplication,urban installation and an exhibition at the gallery. Making public spaces connected with the gallery, urban installation and amobileapplicationfromwhichthepublicwouldbenefitandconnectthefocusedarchitectureworldtothewideraudience.

A place to ascend workshop, where we created a plywood furniture piece resembling a theatre that draws the eye towards inside.

Installation Weaving Bonds that shows a ground terrain created out of electrical cables. The method behind waiving the cables derives from traditional making of Slovene lace. The installation is a lace like creation representing natural terrain.
