Portraits 2015 Prospect Portrait Prize contemporary portrait in any medium

Prospect Gallery seeks contemporary approaches to portraiture. T he exhibition ‘Portraits’ takes a step away from works that

portray a literal likeness and focus on the appearance of the subject of the portrait. Alternatively, we seek the artists’ unique

interpretation of the subject, revealing aspects of the subject or their experience.

Criteria

• Evidence of portrayal of a subject, human or animal that is living or was once living.

• Evidence of portrayal of aspects of the subject and can include aspects that cannot be seen.

• Quality of artwork suitable to be displayed at Prospect Gallery.

Selection process

‘Portraits’ is a juried exhibition. A selection panel consisting of members of the Prospect Arts Action Network will select the

finalists for exhibition which will take place in December 2015. Up to 20 finalists will be selected on the criteria and

conformation to conditions of entry. The selection panel will consider the work in relation to the formation of a cohesive

exhibition.

The Prize

The Prospect Portrait Prize is a non-acquisitive prize generously donated by Terry Howe Printing. Prize winners will be chosen from those works selected for exhibition in ‘Portraits’ the 2015 Prospect Portrait Prize.

First Prize = $5000

Packers’ Prize = $500

People’s Choice = $1000

First prize and Packers’ Pick to be announced at opening of exhibition.

A n Independent judge will be invited to determine the entrant to be awarded the First Prize.

Packers’ Prize will be determined by City of Prospect Council staff and Elected Member votes.

People’s Choice to be announced at the closing of exhibition, determined by public vote.

Conditions of entry

A separate entry form is required for each artwork. Artworks can be in 2 or 3 dimensions in any visual medium such as sculpture,

digital media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles, performance, video/film or multi-media (sound and

written word can be included).

All 2D artwork entered must be no larger than 2m x 2m. Size will be a consideration for works in other forms.

Artworks must be able to be installed in the Prospect Gallery by Gallery staff and are subject to a risk assessment.

Entries must include one jpg image (1 - 2 jpg images for 3D works) of actual work entered. The artists name and the title of the

work must appear as the image title file name. The USB/CD of images will not be returned, however they can be collected from

Prospect Gallery from 9 November until 20 November 2015.

A current one page curriculum vitae (CV) must accompany each entry form. All images and curriculum vitaes will be retained by the gallery for archival records. A non-refundable entry fee of $55 (incl GST) must accompany each entry. Freight and transit insurance costs to and from the

Prospect Gallery and insurance of work whilst on site at Prospect Gallery are the responsibility of the artist. Entries must be the

original work of the artist and completed after December 2013. All artworks entered must be available for sale. A 30% (plus GST)

commission will be charged by Prospect Gallery on exhibited artworks that are sold. Applicants must provide an ABN or if a hobbyist, an ATO Statement by Supplier form completed by the entrant. Prospect Gallery reserves the right to reproduce any works selected for archival, catalogue or publicity purposes.

The selection panels’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
