    Food Fest

    An ayurvedic traditional food fest comptetion was organized by dept of Botany . All the deptartments were

    actively participated by presenting hundreds of ancient,traditional vegetartian foods. The items presented on that

    occasion are listed above. Students and teachers were actively participated in the programme. Dept of Botany

    bagged Ist prize.

    WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY OBSERVATION

    JUNE- 6th

    - 2016

    World Environment Day is an important day in the calendar of the Sree Narayana College

    Nattika. It is one of the avenues the college uses to advocate for environmental protection and

    call for political action on the same. This important day helps to promote the ways that can be

    adopted to improve the environment, for instance investing in more forest cover. It is an inherent

    Nature all of their lives. The booming

    precious biodiversity, robbing us of our natural heritage and driving whole species to the brink

    of extinction. The killing and smuggling are also undermining economies and ecosystems,

    fueling organized crime, and feeding corruption and insecurity across the globe. With the theme th

    2016. With the aid of NSS, NCC and Student Volunteers, department planted several plants

    around our campus .The students dispersed with reinforced will power and stronger decision to

    continue on the Nature friendly path cut open by their Alma Mater.

    Botany Alumini- - 2017

    - -01-2017, Sunday at B.Sc.

    Botany lab. Sevety four alumnies and retired teachers gathered in the function. After registration, they give an

    opportunity to share their golden days within the campus and also to sit and chat in the benches of their

    classroom.

    Head of the Botany Dept, Dr. K. N. Remesh presided the function. DR. P. V. Chandran a famous clinical

    psychologist and secretary of Haritham gave the welcome speech and presented annual report, 2015-16. Prof.

    K.P. Sudha, former Asso.Prof. of the Botany Dept. inaugurated the function. Alumni honored the 5th

    batch B.Sc.

    Botany students (1973-76) during that occasion. They gave memento to ANJU K.C., M.Sc. 3 rd Rank holder

    2014-16; SRUTHY E.P.M. M.Sc 2nd Topper: AMURTHA C. B.Sc Topper 2015-16; SREE LAKSHMI-

    B.Sc 2nd

    Topper 2015-16 . Dept. of Botany honored, Dr. LAKSHMI C.S. (Awarded Doctorate degree); GIJI

    (Qualified NET-2016) and Mrs Razia B.sc Topper 1990., during this occasion. Mr. Haridas announced

    Endowment to financially poor student who secured high marks in B, Sc. every year. He deposited Rs 25000/ for

    this purpuse

    Dr.Hussian, diabatelogist and former secretary of Haritham presented a talk on Diabates Several

    alumnies shared their sweet memories of the past with the audience. The general body unanimously selected the

    following committee members next two years Mr. Vijayan, executive member gave vote of thanks. There was

    lunch.

    Extension Activities

    Dept organized Vegetable cultivation competition in their kitchen gardens of slected students. Intrested students

    were selected from each semester and seed were supplied.They are intimated to sown these seeds in their kitchen

    garden.Moniteriong of the garden were performed by other students by noting the photographs. Dept announced

    prizes for best gardens.Results are waiting.

    We are conducting remedial classes for weaker students of each Botany batch It is based on an aptitude test conducted by the department

    Also conducting UGC aided remedial classes for all B.Sc Botany students.

    We also have well coordinated Class P.T.A meetings.

    Meetings were held twice in a year for each batch.

    Problems of the students were discussed with the parents.

    Intellectual, Financial and Physical assistance were given as per the requirement.

    Regular staff meetings were held and discussions were made.

    Besides the general meeting organized by the principal, Dept gave an orientation class to 1st B.Sc. students and

    their parents on the opening day of their classes. It mainly emphasized on the scope of Botany, Description of

    Cultural Activity

    Freshers Day

    Students and teachers welcomed 1st B.Sc students by giving PPT of history of Dept. and also enjoyed them

    through cultural activity on 18 \9 \15.

    Cleaning

    The activities were scheduled mainly to the second and fourth Fridays of a month from 3.30-4.30pm. Almost all

    students of UG and PG classes were actively involved in the cleaning process. The activities were carried out

    during 3.30-4.30pm once in a week. During the scheduled work hour, we cleaned the campus region,which is

    allotted to the department, stair case ,corridors, doors and windows. Our students were actively involved in

    weeding , cleaning and greening the campus.

    STUDY TOUR TO ATIRAPILLY, MUNNAR, ALAPPUZHA

    As a part of the M.Sc syllabus, department arranged a study tour to Atirapilly, Munnar and Alappuzha. It was

    from 6/12/2016 to 8/12/2016. We were altogether 20 students, 2 teachers Dr. Anitha C.T & Dr. Chitra G and

    1 Ministerial staff Mr. Vijayan in our group.

    th December at 7 am we all reached our college. After taking part a prayer, at 7.45 am. we srarted our

    journey. Our first destination was Thumburmuzhi, we reached tere at 9.30 am. and the next destination is

    and we colllected canscora sp.there.The collection was really an interesting work. We take our lunch from

    Atirapilly. After completing the plant collection we moved to our next destination Munnar around 5 pm. and

    reached there at 9 pm. and also had dinner there.

    of hill consists of rolling hll plateau and the terrain consists of high altitude grassland interspersed with sholas.

    The park which consist of Nilgiri thar, a largest surviving population estimated of about 750 individuals. Three

    major type of plant communties are found in the park- grasslands, shrulands and forests. And the second spot in

    Munnar is Mattupetty dam, which is located 13 km away from Munnar. Which we enjoy the greenish valleys

    and feel the fabulous climate around. The main attraction in the dam is the lake, which surrounded by tea

    gardens, Shola forest and hilly woods lays a beautiful lake, just a few miles away from Mattupetty dam. In

    Munnar we collected some species like oozbeckia, trema, etc...

    th December , the last day after taking breakfast, we move on our next destination Boat house in

    Alappuzha. We started our journey around 7 am from Munnar and reached alleppey at 12.30 pm. and started

    Boating. House boating can be the most relaxing experiancing and also it will help you make more fun. House

    boats which make a pleasure trip through the waves of famous lake, Punnamada and which offering the tourists

    maximum enjoyment of the entire secnic beauty of kerala. And also we enjoyed our lunch by providng Alleppy

    BSc. Study Tour

    STUDY TOUR TO WAYANAD

    As a part of the B.Sc syllabus, department arranged a study tour to Wayanad. It was from 7/12/2016 to

    10/12/2016. We were altogether 29 students, 2 teachers Dr. Bindu R & Mr Praveen V Prasad and 1

    Ministerial staff Mr. C S Suresh in our group.

    th December at 8 am we all reached our college Our first destination was Vazhani Dam, we reached tere at

    11.00 am. We took our lunch from Kottakunnu and the next destination is Adivaram and have beautiful sight

    seeing there.Before reaching our destination wayanad, we stopped several places in between and enjoyed the

    natural beauty.

    On the next day we started our journey from Meenangdi, where we stayed to the ancient edakkal caves and the

    Afer having a rigorous trekking for 3

    gours we had few shopping .Then we headed to Muthanga Wildlife sanctuary where we had a jeep truk provide

    by wilde life department through muthanga forest. We were lucky to visit Wild elephants, sambar deer, sloth and

    many other wild species.Seeing wild animals in the forest was an amazing experience for the students.After

    having oour lunch from a local shop near muthanga we moved to meenmutty waterfalls, were we had to walk

    around 1 km in the forest to reach the waterfalls and then around 500m steep trucking. Students enjoyed the day

    very much and at the end of the day we had our dinner at meenangadi

    On Next day , we moved on our next destination Pazhasi kotta. We started our journey around 6 am from

    Meenanadi and reached there by at 8.00 pm after that we visitied Banasura Dam and started Boating. We spend

    around 3 hours there and have lot of fun there. After the boating we headed to Kurava Island were had our lunch,

    completing our lunch we spend around 4 hours in island with the help of a floating boat.By 7 pm we packed

    from there and returned to our place of stay. We packed everything after having our dinner and went to a film

    theatre and watched the move Kattpanayile Hrithik Roshan. By 12 pm we started our return journey and reached

    our college by 5.00am.

    Conservation of Campus trees

    120 Campus trees were identified and 60 plants were named with their Family, Scientific and

    Malayalam Name. Names have been displayed on the plants.

    We recorded 250 herbaceous plants which are of seasonal in campus.

    Study of diversity of monocots is ongoing

    Herbal Album: maintain a herbal Album of 200 Plants

    Botanical Garden and Herbal Garden

    A small collection of local medicinal plants is maintained by the students in the herbal garden.

    Herbarium : We have a collection of approximate 550 Herbarium plants

    Museum Almost all specimens prescribed for M,Sc. and B.Sc syllabus are preserved in the museum

    In this academic year more than 50 students have joined the music club from all over the college campus . They

    are excellent at their art of music and dance . In each and every stage programmes of the college they have

    exhibited their talents . On 18.08.16 ,for instance , on the fresher

    entertain their juniors by the meants of dance , music ,drama and mimicry etc. During College Union

    (Samanvaya) inauguration on 20.12.16 both teachers and students exhibited their talents in music marvelously

    .College based competitions are organized by college union on 21.12.16& 22.12.16 in which all the members of

    music club actively participated in different on stage programmes such as classical song , light music , mappila

    pattu , patriotic song etc they perform their best and achieve their goal .Now they are ready for participating in

    D Zone competition . They are ready for performing on the upcoming Golden Jubilee celebration of our college

    and College day celebration.
