1 Poster Design Workshop 1. Purpose and Design Poster sessions are common at academic conferences and often a first way of publishing for young researchers. In order to create a poster that fulfils a particular purpose given the target group, the purpose, the aims, the venue and so on you need to consider many factors. The purpose of this workshop is to provide the participants with a set of questions that will help them design good posters. The workshop consists of several sessions: Basic concepts and examples Exercise: Discussing poster features (pairs) Exercise: Design your own poster and give feedback on others (triads) Tools and support available In order to create a good workshop, some success factors need to be considered: Create a good team with at least one innovation advisor and one communication officer Use a good venue where you can do both presentations and have a creative workshop Time the workshop in such a way that the majority of the participants will soon do real posters for a conference If the participants are PhD students, make sure a senior researcher is present to vouch for the importance of creating good posters Use, if possible, examples from the same department as the participants Make use of the participants own experiences
