Sony Unveils Pure Titanium Full HD Handycam® with New 16GB Internal Memory The new Handycam® HDR-TG5 greatly extends recording capacity with its 16GB internal

memory, and sports a sleeker design in a chic, two-tone titanium finish

Hong Kong, May 19, 2009 – Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited today introduced the stylish new AVCHD Handycam® HDR-TG5, the latest addition to Sony’s wide range of Full High Definition (HD) camcorders. Featuring an all-new 16GB internal memory and Memory Stick PRO Duo™ data storage options, the Handycam® HDR-TG5 greatly expands video recording and storage flexibility by enabling lengthy video recording for the style-conscious consumers. The HDR-TG5 is made of pure, high quality titanium and sports an enhanced, streamlined design. Its subtle, two-tone finish also adds a touch of elegance and sophistication. Combining the prowess of the BIONZ™ image processor and new Exmor™ CMOS sensor, the Handycam® also delivers outstanding Full HD image quality for crystal clear viewing and playback. Expanding memory capacity through its hybrid storage design, the Handycam® allows users to have the best of both worlds by enabling 1920 x 1080i Full HD movie recording and storage on its new 16GB internal memory and on Memory Stick PRO Duo™. The internal memory of the Handycam® can store up to 6 hours and 30 minutes1 of HD movies and up to 13 hours2 of HD movies when the optional 16GB Memory Stick™ is also used.

Performance on the Handycam® is as impressive as its looks. Integrating the new Exmor™ CMOS sensor with the BIONZ™ image processor, the HDR-TG5 delivers several high performance features, including 4.0-megapixel still image recording 3 , Dual Recording and Smooth Slow Recording. With Dual Recording, users are able to capture high-resolution 2.3-megapixel still images while recording videos. Smooth Slow Recording enables a three-second video to be recorded as a smooth, 12-second slow-motion video by filming at 240 fields per second, helping any amateur director easily simulate slow-motion video effects used in movies. Travellers will be pleased to know that the Handycam® is compatible with an exclusive, optional 0.7x wide-angle conversion lens VCL-HGE07TB that enables the capture of panoramic landscape shots in all their beauty. Improving on the user interface of its predecessor Handycam® HDR-TG1, the HDR-TG5 comes with a large 2.7-inch LCD touch panel as well as a more intuitive user interface for effortless recording and navigation. In addition, the Quick-on function allows the camcorder to switch on and off by simply opening and closing its LCD panel respectively. This allows users to start shooting movies almost instantaneously once the LCD panel is in the open position, and helps to conserve battery power when the camcorder is not in use. The HDR-TG5 also integrates Smile Shutter and Face Detection technologies. With Smile Shutter mode switched on, the Handycam® can detect smiles in a scene while recording video and automatically takes a still image of a scene. Simultaneously, focus, exposure and skin colour are automatically optimised with the help of the Face Detection feature, ensuring subjects always look good in videos. With its Highlight Playback feature, highlight scenes from movie recordings can be automatically extracted based on factors such as the use of Face Detection, Dual Recording and Smile Shutter and displayed on a HD TV accompanied by background music. In addition, the Handycam® is BRAVIA Sync compatible which enables movies and photos from the HDR-TG5 to be viewed directly on any compatible BRAVIA TV using just the BRAVIA remote, minimizing the hassle of using multiple controls. In addition, a new sleek, two-tone finish on the HDR-TG5 gives the Handycam® a luxurious look and feel, allowing users to easily carry it as a fashion accessory. High quality pure titanium is also employed on the camcorder chassis, enabling a light and robust design, while Premium Hard Coating is applied on its body surface 4 to enhance scratch resistance and minimize fingerprint smudge. Placing emphasis on portability, the lightweight and compact HDR-TG5 is smaller than the HDR-TG1, showcasing the concept of “My HD to Go” and easily fits into most pockets and bags.

Sony and the Environment Sony is consistently engaged in a review of our manufacturing operations and business practices to ensure products are developed in an environmentally responsible manner. The external parts of the included Handycam® Station are manufactured using recycled plastic. In addition, 100% recycled paper is used in the manufacture of the Handycam® carton and corrugated cardboard is used for the packaging cushions.

The Handycam® HDR-TG5 will be available from the end of May 2009 at the suggested retail

price of HK$6,980.
