Mrs Karen Munro | Acting Head of Junior School

Welcome to Term 4, Week 4

This week our Junior School Bible focus is: “Understanding the Message of the Bible” and children have been challenged to consider how they respond to God’s Word. Children have heard the "Parable of the Sower" this week and consider their response to God’s seed. Jesus told this story so that all people would understand that there are different ways of responding to God’s Word. We all respond differently and at different times.

AIM: To give children the opportunity to hear stories of people who have responded to the message given to us through God’s Word and how it can impact on their lives.

Our memory verse is from 2 Timothy 3:16 "Everything in the Scriptures is God’s Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live." CEV

Kindergarten Orientation Craft Morning with Year 6 Buddies

We had a wonderful time today in our fourth activity of Kindergarten orientation, meeting our "big buddies" and enjoying some craft time together. These buddies will meet with the Kindergarten children for 2019 in a fortnight, when they attend Chapel together. They will continue to be available for the early weeks of Kindergarten’s transition at "big school" next year.

Kindergarten Orientation Next Thursday

It will be an exciting day next Thursday, when our new Kindergarten students for 2019 meet their teacher for next year. Parents will have an information session in the Staff Common Room regarding the routines and opportunities for Kindergarten students at Green Point Christian College.

Artist in Residence

As shown below 2B, 3/4D, KDL and 3P created beautiful pieces of art with our artist in residence, Jo Francis from Treehouse Art Studios. Next week KD, 4M, 1PH and 5M will enjoy a time of creativity with Jo. The detail and quality of their water colour paintings has been outstanding.

Samaritan's Purse – 391 Christmas boxes sent

A huge thank you goes out to all the families and friends who donated a shoebox and helped us reach the total of 391 boxes. The truck arrived at 9:30am last Friday and over 60 excited children helped to pack the truck with our gifts which will be distributed in the Philippines this year. This means that 391 children will be blessed and hear about the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you again and we look forward to reaching our target goal of 500 shoeboxes in 2019. We thank Mrs Davis and Mrs Harris for their organisation and care.

Mr Peter McLellan | Head of Secondary School

You can feel it. The heat is coming and Term 4 is well underway. We are reaching towards the end of another school year. The call of the surf becomes louder in the ears of our students and the messages about school only being about videos and mucking around heads home to parents. I am sure you have heard it, “All we do is watch videos” or “We’re not doing anything so can I stay home?” It is not true. Classes and learning take place right up until the last day because every moment is important no matter what year your child is in. Year 12 has begun for our Year 11s and it is vital that they keep up with the work they get this term, as it forms part of their HSC. There is so much to do and so little time, we cannot afford to waste it.

We need to teach the characteristics of perseverance and determination to our students as they need them so desperately if they are to reach their full potential in their academic pursuits. This is their job, they are students and they need to learn the disciplines that accompany such an occupation.

English Texts

All overdue English texts must be returned to the Library as soon as possible. Books not returned will be charged on student fees by the end of this week.

Signing in and out of School

It is really important if a student is to arrive late to school that they sign in at the back window of the College office, so we have a clear picture of who is here each day. If a student needs to leave the College for any reason they must sign out at the College office. This must be done even if they are being picked up by a parent. Please make sure that you have given your child written permission to sign out early so we have a clear understanding of the purpose of their early departure. Year 11 must sign in at the office if they have a study period in Period 1. Please note that students need to be in class if they are to perform to the ability they are capable of in their studies.

Electric Vehicle Bike Race

On Wednesday 31 October, Emily Sims, Shannon Spencer and Alisha Woodruff accompanied by Mr Drennan and Mr Cohen travelled to Cameron Park Raceway to compete in the University of Newcastle’s EV Prize – The Electric Vehicle Bike race.

The girls have spent many lunchtimes over Terms 3 and 4 preparing their bikes and themselves to be race ready. On the day they performed admirably and raced as well as they could before an electrical fault forced them to retire early. This was not before they had the time to be interviewed by the sponsors, Rotary, who decided that because of their hard work in the face of adversity, they deserved the Team Spirit Award - $200.

They all had a wonderful adventure, and Mr Drennan looks forward to the next group from Year 10 who will step up to take to the track in the name of clean energy. A special thank you to our sponsors, Erina Bikeworx.

AIM Mission Trip ReflectionsLast week, Sophie Shelley, Renae Dahbache, Elise Leonard, Naomi Omayao, Ella King, Mia Bye, Emma Vella, Holly Prater, Nadine Van Rensburg and Tally Pakofe (from Year 9) went to serve in Aboriginal communities in north-western NSW. They spent four nights in Brewarrina and three nights in Gulargambone. The girls worked together tremendously and made wonderful connections with each other and with the local communities. Here are some of the girls’ reflections:

It was an experience of a lifetime! The laughs and cries shared has definitely brought us closer. I couldn't think of a better team to share with. Mia Bye

First of all, the trip was an amazing eye opener. The communities we visited were welcoming and treated us with respect and trust. The stories shared were very heart touching and understanding at the same time. Everywhere we went we were able to build a relationship with the people and still stay connected after the trip. Lastly, being able to connect with the team and create a strong bond was unbelievable. Personally, I have never experienced such an opportunity as the mission trip and I encourage anyone who is seeking to go in the following years. Renae Dahbache

Last week, me and nine other awesome girls and two amazing teachers went out to Brewarrina and Gulargambone on our mission trip. It is easy to say that this was the best week on my life! It was awesome to experience and be challenged by how the Aboriginal community live their everyday lives and it was cool to see how different it is to how we live our lives. It was also cool to see how well their community get along with each other and how everyone knows everyone, and I just think that’s such a cool thing to see. I loved every moment of the trip and couldn't have asked for a better bunch of girls and teachers to experience it with. We are all so close now and all have each other to fall back on and I wouldn't change a thing! Sophie Shelley

The mission trip was honestly the best week of my life. It was incredible seeing how close the Aboriginal people are as a community. This trip has created lifelong friendships and helped me grow in my love for Christ. Nadine Van Rensburg
