PRELIMINARY EVALUATION SHEETQuality of Summary My honest evaluation- what

was done well and what was not of good standard? Try to cite specific example and moments from your video

Examples of strategies, good practices and skills that my group and I will put into place and develop to ensure a main production of high quality.

Quality of holding a shot steady The quality of holding the camera steady was okay but this needs to be improved for the final task. This is because the natural shake of the hands and camera could give off the wrong code he the audience and then they might become confused and misread the story line.

We could use the tripod more to make the shots more steady and in focus.

Quality of the framing of shots The quality of the framing of shots was alright, there was a lot of idle space that could have distracted some of the audience from the action.

Make sure that everything is positioned right by doing test shots and watching it back to see everything is in place.

Quality of shooting material appropriate to the task set- i.e. the content of your film pre and post editing was consistent with the exam directives

We stuck to our story board all through out which made the film process a lot faster.

Make another story board and stick to it and all times.

Quality of selecting mise-en-scène including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting;

The quality of mise-en-scene was poor because there was a lot of stuff in the background that were giving off the wrong signifier. The lack of lighting made many of the scenes out of focus and blurry. This was giving the wrong kind of focus which could get the audience to focus on the wrong thing.

Next time, look back a scenes and make sure there is the right mise-en-scene so the audience get the right message.

Quality of editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer

I think we edited the scenes quite well. For example, extracting sound from other scenes to make sure that there wasn’t any background sounds that distracted the audience from the purpose of the shot.

Make sure we record more background sound and that we make sure all scenes don’t have any distracting sounds in the background (one scene had a bit of talking in it).

Quality of using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;

The beginning of the clip was a bit disjointed as the sound from the corridor didn’t continue till when the door was opened (we changed location). To overcome this we copied the sound from the corridor scene,

Add some music in the beginning to add to the mood we are trying to set.

and out it over the sound from when he opened the door. This gave the beginning continuity. We didn’t put too many extravagant transitions as it was just the opening sequence.

Quality of positioning and movements of actors

I think we recorded the movement of the actors well. All actors were placed in the frame and we used the rule of thirds. However, we could have tracked our actors better by taking account that recording into the day light (recording facing the sun) will give the scene a different unintended lighting.

The tracking of actors should be a lot smoother. Change the exposure to make sure the actors can be fully scene. Watch recordings back to make sure everything is in the right place.

Quality of group planning, meeting targets, organization

Our planning, organization and meeting targets was at a high standard. We planned what room we were going to record in, in advance. We also made sure there was a camera booked for us to use. We arranged with the actors what time to meet, even though one didn’t turn up.

Next time we can model the organisation and planning from this task. Maybe we could consider getting more committed actors to act to ensure we don’t waste time waiting around.

Group dynamics i.e. how did your group work together

I think we worked quite well as a group and we took every one's opinions into account. Also we all had positions that we felt comfortable in and positions we felt we could excel in.
