Mission Sunday
July 20th & 21st, 2019
The Glenmary Sisters minister to all God’s people regardless of their race, creed or life-
style through compassionate outreach and ecumenical efforts. Sister Darlene Presley will
be at our parish to tell us more about their ministry. She will speak at each Mass
throughout the weekend. If you would like to learn more about the Glenmary Sisters,
please visit their web site at www.glenmarysisters.org.
The GLENMARY SISTERS were founded in 1941 by Father William Howard Bishop and
have been serving as living examples of Christ's love in action in the rural, small town
mission areas of America for over 60 years. Many Americans do not realize the tremen-
dous amount of spiritual and material poverty that exists right here in the U.S.
BIOGRAPHY OF SISTER DARLENE PRESLEY
Darlene was born in Ravenna, Ohio, but was raised in Augusta,
Georgia. She attended nursing school at Augusta College and
graduated in 1984. She worked as an oncology nurse until she
entered Glenmary in 2002.
She spent her candidate year in Smithland, Kentucky. As a
novice, she took classes at St. Meinrad School of Theology. She
made her First Profession on June 2, 2005. Sister was elected
Mother Superior in May, 2018. She enjoys reading, hiking,
crossword puzzles and spending time with people.

Dear Lord Jesus and Mary, Mother of God, hold all these brave souls in the palm
of your hand; comfort them and their families. Send angels of protection, love,
and comfort to all the service men and women still at war, bring them home safely
and comfort their families. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Take Five for Faith
Won’t you be my neighbor?
Fred Rogers, who would later famously have his own
“Neighborhood,” earned his first degree in music com-
position. He went to work in television and found his
way into children’s programming as a puppeteer, com-
poser, and organist. He studied to become a Presbyte-
rian minister and to earn a degree in child development
in his off hours. After his ordination, his church agreed
he should continue to be the best possible grownup
neighbor to children who could use one. Neighbors
aren’t simply the folks next door. They’re primarily the
people who need us most.
