Group activities and individual activities are designed to get your pupils thinking about why GlobalÊs Make Some Noise is raising money, how they can help our small charities and how to make some noise for a good cause. You can choose the right activity or a combination of activities for your class and adapt them to suit your other lesson plans⁄

Activity 1 – Introduction to charities

• Getting noisy helps to grab attention! • Getting noisy can be fun! • Getting noisy can make you feel good, especially when youÊre dancing to your favourite song! • Getting noisy can help you to express different emotions. (Ask your pupils to make happy/sad/excited noises).

What is GlobalÊs Make Some Noise?

• GlobalÊs Make Some Noise is a charity which helps lots of smaller charities across the UK.

• GlobalÊs Make Some Noise helps small charities by working with some of the UKÊs best-loved radio stations and their listeners to help raise money and shout about the work the charities do.

How does a small charity work?

• GlobalÊs Make Some Noise works with small charities that support disadvantaged children. [Define disadvantaged as something that causes difficulty/ something that makes someone less likely to succeed than others].

• Small charities work with volunteers who give up their time to help others, and help to raise money to buy useful things and pay for fun days out for children and their families who have been through a tough time.

• Charities need lots of people to know about them to make sure they can raise enough money to help these children.

• For small charities, it can be really difficult to get their message heard by enough people, so GlobalÊs Make Some Noise helps charities by sharing their stories on the radio.

How does the radio help?

• Radios are everywhere - in cars, in homes, and sometimes in schools. This means that radio stations can reach many people.

• We can hear music through the radio because there is someone sat at a desk choosing the music for you.

• We can also hear our favourite radio presenters chatting through their big studio microphones!

• The radio presenters can MAKE SOME NOISE and share stories with the listeners.

• By being on the radio, GlobalÊs Make Some Noise can tell the audience all about the small charities, and the children they support - it might even make listeners want to donate money to help.

There are lots of ways to spread the word about people who need our help. This is important because the more people who hear about the charities, the more support they are likely to get.

Theme: The power of radio & storytelling

Listening to stories about our small charities on the radio can be really powerful because the audience has to listen carefully and pay attention.

Activity 6 – Story Time & Noisy Wordsearch

Resources: Magic show & baking cakes stories, Noisy wordsearch, pencils Time: 5 minutes

Ask your pupils to listen carefully to the following story and try filling out the Noisy wordsearch at the same time.

NoisyÊs magic show

Our mascot, Noisy, has a new hobby! He loves watching magicians on TV, so heÊs going to perform his own magic show. Noisy practices his trick for one whole week. Noisy invites 3 friends to watch his magic show. Noisy performs his magic trick and shouts out „ABRACADABRA!‰. Noisy pulls a purple rabbit out of his hat like magic!

Noisy bakes a cake

Our mascot, Noisy, is baking a cake! He heads to the kitchen to start baking. Noisy puts on a big white chefÊs hat. Noisy puts chocolate, sugar, and oranges in to the cake mix. He adds a special food colouring that turns the cake pink! He adds candles to the cake. Voila!

Activity 7 – Radio Show

Time: 20 minutes

LetÊs pretend that weÊre on the radio! Get into small groups and put on a radio show that will tell the story of a small charity.

Some of you will play the radio presenters asking questions, and some of you will play the small charity telling your story.

Research task: Ask your pupils to talk about what theyÊre passionate about, and set a search engine exercise to find out about small charities in their local area. These charities could even be a GlobalÊs Make Some Noise charity one day!

Deafinitely Theatre

• Deafinitely Theatre is a small charity based in London. • 1 in 7 people in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing, but there isnÊt much chance for deaf young people to put on shows and work in the theatre.

• The theatre company trains deaf young people and helps them to become actors and writers.

• Deafinitely Theatre has worked with over 100 deaf young people.

• GlobalÊs Make Some Noise will help Deafinitely Theatre pay for youth theatre programmes snd summer schools to help other deaf young people.
