A child’s love is like a whisper…
A child's love is like a whisper, given in little ways we do not hear but if you listen closely it will be very clear. They often do not say it loud but in how they come to you... Daddy, will you play with me? Mommy, tie my shoe? ...the many ways they tell you changes as they grow Dad, I made the team today! Mom, I've got to go! Pop, I need some money You see there's...this girl at school... Mama, I met a boy today and wow he is so cool...! Dad, I've got something to tell you... I think she is the one. Mom, He asked me to marry him. Would you love him as your son? Dad, I've got some news for you... It's gonna be a boy! Mom, I'm kind of scared of this, yet I'm filled with joy! A child's love is like a whisper, given in little ways we do not hear but if you listen closely it will be very clear. They often do not say it loud but in how they come to you... Grandpa, will you play with me? Grandma, tie my shoe... It is never ending A blessing from above Listen to the whispers of a child's love.

12 Ways to Develop Your Child's Organizational Skills
1. Keep a family calendar. Track everyone's activities on a prominent and accessible calendar, encouraging your child to write her own entries and reference the calendar when making plans. You also might consider checking schedules and updating the calendar as a family over Sunday breakfast.
2. Introduce checklists. Whether it's as simple as "3 Things To Do Before Bed" or "What To Take On Vacation," creating and referring to lists together will develop your child's ability to strategize tasks and organize his time.
3. Assign chores that involve sorting or categorizing. Grocery shopping, emptying the dish-washer, sorting photos, cleaning out a closet, and other tasks that involve pre-planning, making lists, or arranging things are great choices.
4. Get ready the night before. This one's always tough — for both of you — but it does work if you can get in the habit.
5. Use containers and closet organizers. If there's a place for everything, she'll find it easier to find items, keep neat, and clean up. Build "pick up" time into the daily routine.
6. Buy your child a planner. Ask him to help you pick it out or choose one that will appeal to him so he'll be excited about using it. Having his own planner will show him you consider his time valuable and encourage him to create a schedule. Be sure to routinely coordinate the information with your family calendar to avoid conflicts.
7. Organize schoolwork. Make sure your child's keeping notes, homework, handouts, and graded assignments in separate folders in a binder. Try to check her backpack nightly and set time aside each week to go through her binder and get things sorted.
8. Establish a homework routine. Help your child make a "study hour" schedule and set up a comfortable workspace -- whether her room or the kitchen table. Encourage her to stick to the schedule even when she doesn't have homework (She can read, review notes, or even do a crossword puzzle.)
9. Create a homework supply box. Fill a box with office supplies and encourage your child to store pens, paper, measurement tools, and a calculator in it so he'll have what he needs on hand.
10. Cook together. Cooking teaches measuring, following directions, sorting ingredients, and managing time — all key elements in organization. Involve your child in meal planning too, challenging her to help you put together a shopping list.
11. Cultivate an interest in collecting. If your child has a particular interest, encourage him to create and organize the collection. It can even be something free — such as rocks or can-celled stamps — that he can sort, classify, and arrange.
12. Reward and provide support with organizational tasks. Your child may find organizing a challenge, so help her develop her routine and give her a treat for jobs well done!

Breakfast with the Bishop
Matthew Krutul (pre-k) had the unique opportunity to enjoy breakfast with the Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon, Bishop of Joliet. Each year, one student from each school is invited to the University of St. Francis in Joliet to enjoy breakfast with the Bishop and Prayer Service.

Tuscany Fall’s Banquet Hall
Tuscany Fall’s parking lot is a private parking lot. Due to liability, we have been asked not to use their parking lot. This includes short term parking at the end of the school day and long term such as assemblies, field trips, HFA meetings, picnics, or open house. Par-ents, we need to respect Tuscany Fall’s request and find an alternative parking
Noonan Elementary Academy Emergency School Closing Information
In an effort to make notification of an emergency school closing as efficient and quick as possible, Noonan Elementary Academy has adopted an automatic calling system. In case of a school closing, our “phone blast” will start and all our families will be called and emailed simultaneously. In addition to the phone blast, you may also check the following:
1. Listen to WGN radio (AM – 720) or WBBM radio (AM – 780) between 6:30 and 8:00 A.M. or watch CBS-TV (2), NBC-TV (5), ABC-TV (7), WGN-TV (9), or FOX-TV, for closing infor-mation.
2. Go to the public website at www.emergencyclosings.com and search for the facility by typing the name and city of the facility.
3. Check the internet for your local news and school closings.
4. You can get a free e-mail notification (sent to your computer) simply by signing up for the service on the ECC website (www.EmergencyClosings.com). If you no longer want to receive the e-mail notification you can simply remove your name from the ECC website. ECC pays for this “free” service by selling advertising on the e-mail message, but they do not sell the list of e-mail sub-scribers.
5. You should receive a phone call (home number) and an email regarding closings. The phone call goes to the home phone number. If you want it to go to a cell number, you must use your cell number as your home phone number. Please update your phone number and email address when changes take place.
Mailboxes and Driveways
Several of our neighbors have complained about our parents parking in front of their driveways and mailboxes. If we block their driveway, their customers and employees cannot enter or exit and it disrupts their mail delivery. This makes our neighbors very upset at Noonan Elementary Academy. Even if you are just running into the build-ing for a minute or if you are in a pick-up line, please do not block a driveway or mailbox – you must leave fifteen feet clear-ance on either side of the mailbox. This is simple courtesy to our neighbors.

February Birthdays May God bless our students That have a February birthday.
46th Annual March for Life
On Friday, January 18, 2019, students from around the Chicago land
area headed to the Nation’s Capital to be a part of history at the Annual
March for Life. During their journey they made new friends, reconnected with old friends, and realized how
unified the pro-life movement truly is.
Life is All about Respect
Tardy One of the biggest concerns from our staff is the number of students who consistently arrive late and disrupt their class. The staff feels that tardiness is very inconsiderate and unfair to the children who are here on time.
➢ Each time a child is tardy the parent must come into the
office and sign the child in.
God, may I never lose sight of the soul behind each face,
the souls of Your children.

February Saints
February 21st The saint of the day is St. Peter Damian. He was a monk, a cardinal and one of the thirty Doctors of the Church. St. Peter was an educated man who wrote many let-ters and biographies. He liked to teach through examples and stories and was al-ways very kind to the poor.
February 22nd In addition to being the feast of St. Margaret of Cortona, the Catholic Church cele-brates today the feast of the Chair of St. Peter, our first pope. This feast commem-orates Christ’s choosing Peter to sit in his place as the servant-authority of the whole Church.
February 23rd We celebrate the feast of St. Polycarp, bishop and martyr. He was a disciple of Saint John the Evangelist, and the spiritual father of Saint Irenaeus.
February 24th We celebrate the feast of St. Adela. She was a princess, the youngest daughter of William the conqueror, King of England. Throughout her life, Adela had an active role in English politics. She was famed for endowing churches and monasteries.
February 25th We celebrate the feast of St. Walburga. She was an English girl who went to Ger-many and died there as an abbess. Walburga is the sister of Saint Willibald and Saint Winibald, and the daughter of Saint Richard, an English king.

St. Blasé February 3
Bishop and Martyr Died 316? Central Turkey Patron of protection against throat diseases, wild animals, patron of wool combers, wax
makers If you are already familiar with St. Blasé, it is probably because of the blessing of throats – a Catholic custom on his feast. According to tradition, Blasé had been a doctor before he was ordained a priest. He became the bishop of Sebaste (now in central Turkey). During a period of persecution, he fled to a cave where he lived as a hermit. It is said that he cured and tamed the wild animals there. One day hunters discovered him and took him to the governor, who sentenced him to be tortured and killed. About four hundred years after his death, many stories began to be told about Blasé, and he be-came a popular saint, especially in France and Germany. One legend says that while Blasé was in prison, a mother brought him her small boy, who was choking on a fishbone stuck in his throat. Blasé prayed over the child, and he was healed. Every year on St. Blasé’s feast, two candles tied with ribbon in the shape of an X are used to bless throats. In the prayer, the Church prays that those blessed may be delivered from diseases of the throat and from every other illness. Candles are used because of another story: It is said that while Blasé was kept in a dark prison, a woman secretly brought him some candles and food. Blasé is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, saints who were patrons for almost every aspect of life. People in the Middle Ages showed devotion to these saints as a group.
St. Blasé, pray for us!
“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of
a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire; it is the time for home.” ~ Edith Sitwell

St. Blasé day is February 3
St. Blasé day is, February 3, 2018. Students will have their throats blessed at school on Friday, February 1st - time TBD.
O God, deliver us through the intercession of Thy Holy Bishop and Martyr Blasé, from all evil of soul and body, especially from all ills of the throat; and grant us the grace to make a good confession in the confident hope of obtaining Thy pardon, and ever to praise with worthy lips Thy most holy name. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thorny Crown
The 40 days before Easter are called Lent. Lent is a special time for praying more and offering sacrifices to Jesus. A wonderful Lenten activity that the entire family can do is the Thorny Crown. The “Thorny Crown” is made of flour, salt, water, and toothpicks. Every time a family member makes a special sacrifice for Jesus, they pull one toothpick from the crown. This helps the family remember how Jesus suffered and died on the cross for our sins.
“Thorny Crown Recipe”
4 cups of flour 1 cup of salt Warm Water (approximately 2 cups) Toothpicks Grown-up to Help You
1. Mix Flour and salt with enough water to make stiff dough (approximately 2 cups) 2. Knead until smooth 3. Place in the refrigerator about 1/2 hour (this makes the dough easier to work with) 4. Roll into three ropes, braid loosely, and make into a circle. Pinch ends together 5. Stick toothpicks loosely in crown and bake at 350 degrees until dry (about 45 min.)

The US bishops have released a brief pastoral exhortation reminding Catholics of their obligation to make use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and urging more frequent Confession. In “God’s Gift of Forgiveness,” approved by the bishops' conference, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops reminds Catholics of the obligation to go to confession yearly, encourages frequent confession, and invites Catholics to confess their sins during Lent.
Lent begins Wednesday, March 6
Lenten Observances ….Lent is almost here. It is a time to repent and to believe in the good news, for we are dust and unto dust we shall return. The traditional Fast and Abstinence regulations are shared with you here to help you pre-pare for this season of grace. Everyone 14 years of age and over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of
Lent. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast and abstain on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals,
sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. Lent is the principal season of the penance in the Christian year; all, in addition to following the Lenten
regulations, are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial, serious prayer and a performance of works of charity and mercy.
Wednesday, March 6, Ash Wednesday A day of fast and abstinence. The beginning of the penitential season of Lent. In the solemn forty days of Lent, the Church unites herself to the mystery of Jesus in the desert. In addition, the Catholics enter into a time of prayer, penance, and good works. The children will be encouraged to give up (fast) from something they really like, to do a kind deed every day and to say an extra prayer for their families’ journey toward holiness during Lent.
Our Lenten Path Lent is a time when we try to give up sin, ignore temptation, and do good works. Participating in Holy Sacri-fice of the Mass is the most beautiful worship that we can give to God. When we give up sin and replace it with “the good,” we develop a holy virtuous heart. If we practice our virtues daily they become who we are even when nobody is watching and we more closely imitate Jesus and our Holy Mother. Jesus had to go through His Passion and death to follow the Will of His Father. We also, must die ourselves in order to experi-ence the joys of our own eternal resurrection that Jesus gained for us. Repent and live the gospel.
God bless you all!
