The Trustees of the University of Pretoria Pension and Provident Funds seek to appoint a Principal Officer to the Funds. The position will probably be on a part-time contractual basis but the Trustees may also consider a full-time appointment, depending on the applications received.

The Pension Fund is a defined benefit pension fund and is closed to new entrants. Currently there are 499 members and 540 pensioners. The Provident Fund is essentially a defined contribution provident fund with 3 041 members and 196 pensioners. Both Funds have established a Management Committee, an Investment Committee and an Audit Committee.

Duties include: ▲Statutory duties as set out in the Pension Funds Act. ▲ Coordination role in the preparation of agenda packs for Trustee, Management Committee, Investment Committee and Audit Committee meetings ▲ Scrutiny of minutes prepared by the secretary. ▲ Preparation of an “action list” following all meetings. ▲ Liaison with service providers to ensure that all action items are attended to timeously. ▲ General interaction with service providers to ensure that all duties of the service providers are carried out. ▲ Interaction with the Chairman of Trustees and the various Committees as required. ▲ Interaction with the employer as required. ▲ Attendance at all Trustee and other Committee meetings. ▲ Dealing with any member complaints.

Requirements: ▲Prior experience as a principal officer or trustee of a retirement fund. ▲ At least 5 years of relevant experience in the retirement fund industry. ▲ Tertiary qualification in the legal, actuarial or accounting fields.

Competencies: Planning and organising ▲ Managerial and interpersonal skills ▲ Written and verbal communication ▲ Conflict resolution ▲ Financial skills ▲ Attention to detail.

Information required: Completion of Annexure B as required by the Financial Services Board’s Directive 5. ▲ Detailed CV including all relevant work experience and current engagements. ▲ Proof of your qualifications. ▲ Copy of Identity Document ▲ Contact details of at least three suitable references. ▲ Remuneration proposal on both a fixed and hourly charge basis.
