Walk Like a Warrior

Jeremiah 15 - 17

2 Timothy 2

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

Judges 6:1, Eighteen-year-old Emma faithfully talks about Jesus on social media,

even though bullies have criticized her joy and enthusiastic love for Christ. Some have attacked her with remarks about her physical ap-pearance. Others have suggested a lack of intelligence because of her devotion to God. Though the unkind words cut deep into Emma’s

heart, she continues to spread the gospel with bold faith and love for Jesus and others. Sometimes, though, she’s tempted to believe her identity and worth are determined by the criticism of others. When

that happens, she asks God for help, prays for her persecutors, medi-tates on the words of Scripture, and perseveres with Spirit-empowered courage and confidence.

Gideon faced fierce tormentors—the Midianites (Judges 6:1–10). Though God called him a “mighty warrior,” Gideon struggled to let go of his doubt, self-imposed limitations, and insecurities (vv. 11–15). On more than one occasion, he questioned the Lord’s presence and his own qualifications, but eventually surrendered in faith. When we trust God, we can live like we believe what He says about us is true. Even when persecution tempts us to doubt our identity, our loving Father confirms His presence and fights on our behalf. He af-firms we can walk like mighty warriors armed with His absolute love, guarded by His endless grace, and secured in His reliable truth.

When the Israelites cried out to God for help after years of ignoring Him

(Judges 6:6), He sent a prophet who told them exactly what was wrong (vv. 7–

10). Then God began to work, but Gideon had no idea what was happening. The

story simply says, “The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in

Ophrah” (v. 11). Gideon asked the angel, “Where are all [God’s] wonders that

our ancestors told us about?” (v. 13). Only when fire consumed Gideon’s offer-

ing (v. 21) did he sense God’s presence (v. 22). Despite this miraculous display,

Gideon needed even more assurance from Him (vv. 36–40) before leading his

tiny band against the enemy (ch. 7).

Children’s Week

Last week was Children’s Week and as part of the celebrations the Kindergarten,

Pre-Primary and Year 1 children enjoyed the festivities offered at the Wool Shed.

This year the event was organized by the Gascoyne Early Years Network. Activities

included bouncy castle, face painting, colouring, lots of fresh food on offer,

dancing, music and even performers from Perth participated. I am reliably

informed that students from CCS not only had a wow of a time but they were really

well behaved. Congratulations to all our wonderful children and staff who so

capably supervised them. A special thankyou to Rachael for running an

information stall which helped showcase our school. Passer-by’s were given show

bags filled with goodies.

Gymnastics

Each year, our students learn skills from different Sports. This is organized and

taught by Mrs Roche. This term we are fortunate to have Mrs Condo (one of our

kindy mums) who is an experienced coach, teach the children Gymnastics.

Gymnastics is a Sport which builds strength, flexibility, co-ordination and the

accompanying health benefits such as cardiovascular fitness, greater bone density

etc. It also builds self-discipline and confidence in the children so it is a great all

round Sport. The children are loving the lessons. I don’t think I did a handstand

until I was 18 years old when I took up Gymnastics at Uni and then realized what I

had missed out on.

BMX

I am currently trialling BMX riding each Friday lunchtime with our Year 5/6 children.

We have a track conveniently located next the school, so it is a great opportunity

to take advantage of it. Children must provide their own bikes and wear all the

safety equipment required to stay safe. The track is very testing with many hills,

dips as well as banked twists and turns. I noticed that the children were quite

exhausted but satisfied after our first efforts last Friday. If there is the interest, we

can consider offering BMX riding to other classes at CCS.

Scitech

In week one of the term we were privileged to have representatives from Scitech visit

our school. Different classes were offered to junior, middle and upper primary

students. The Upper Primary student looked at the special adaptations that allow

different animals to survive. This included: the Archer fish which spits water at its

prey, the Hagfish which creates a slime to escape from its predators, the octopus

which can squeeze through a ridiculously small space (limiting factor being the size of

their beak!). The children were in fits of laughter as some were given the opportunity

to act out how the animals use their protective or attacking adaptations.

Animals are uniquely God’s creatures. He created them.

Genesis 1:24-25 says God created the animals, from the beasts of the earth to the creeping insects. Scrip-

ture even tells us that the breath of life resides within them (Gen. 7:15).

By virtue of our creation in the image of God, we humans are uniquely special in com-

parison to all of creation, but that does not mean the rest of creation has no value to

God or that he doesn’t enjoy it.

When God created animals, he declared their creation to be “good” (Gen. 1:25).

The upper primary children collected different soils and after mixing them with water

to create a paste and placed it in agar dishes. I’m not sure if you remember back to

your biology class, but agar dishes are small plastic containers that are filled with a jel-

ly nutrient. When foreign objects such as soil come in contact with the gel, germs on

the object begin to multiply. Within one or two weeks the colony of germs multiplies

into the billions and you can see evidence of the colony on the surface of the agar

dish. It is now two weeks since we commenced the experiment and there is definite

evidence that bacteria is found in the soil.

Gymnastics

The students of CCS are lucky to be doing

gymnastics this term with Mrs Condo.

Each Monday every student, at different times of

the day, will participate in a session of gymnastics.

So much fun and so good for the children to keep

them refreshed, relaxed and ready for the week .

The Carnarvon Police Station asked the Schools of Carnarvon to

create a ‘masterpiece’ each that they would then display at the

new Police Station. Mrs Shaw and ALL of the students of CCS came

together to produce this beautiful artwork. Once this has been

hung we will let you know where you can view the original canvas.

Carnarvon Christian School would like to say a huge thank you to FOCUS in

Carnarvon for their generous donation of funds so that we may buy a pump for the primary children’s school sand pit. CCS is a water wise school and this helps to

cut down on the wasting of water when the children are playing in the sand pit.

National Children’s Week

Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th Octo-

ber 2019

Children's Week is an annual event celebrated in

Australia held around the fourth Wednesday in

October. In 1996 it was decided to adopt a

permanent theme: "A Caring World Shares" as a

reflection of Children's Week .

Children's Week celebrates the right of children to

enjoy childhood. It is also a time for children to

demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities.

The Kindy through to Year 1 students from

Carnarvon Christian School were able to venture

down to the Civic Centre to see the amazing

Children’s Week set up by various groups in the

Carnarvon Community.

It was fun, loud, colourful and noisy and the kids

enjoyed every minute of their time there.

Thanks to Mrs Smith from the front office who set

up a great stall to represent the Carnarvon Christian

School.
